Romeo and Juliet is like a rite of passage for ladies skaters. Seems like everyone does it at some point. :D
:D ... oh well, there goes "new and modern" hope for Braide... (and did i say 100 times already that Blond women look VERY odd skating to Julietta and Carmen..:slinkaway)

Anything is a step up from Cindarella. Although Juliet is still an ingenue. (Yes, i k ow old ballerinas have danced it but not in Shakespeare’s intention.)

Bradie does not strike me as having a sultry bone in her body. Sigh. All-American girls are so cookie-cutter.

Maybe it’ll be the techno Romeo & Juliet that Sokolova used in 2006? #probablynot #unitardplease

Obviously I’ll reserve judgement until we see the program, but man, I was really hoping Bradie and her team would choose something outside of the generic American princess music playlist.

I think Bradie Tennell would do justice to the Prokofiev verison of R&J, but not really the Sasha Cohen version.

Maybe she will surprise us all and portray Tybalt rather than Juliet.
..... i was already hopping for Med (last season) to be "not Karenina" but "Vronsky" or just not jump under a train in the end.... and you know how well that turned out..

From this instagram post it looks like Karen Chen has scrapped the SP she choreographed with Rohene in March.
"new short program ✔️"
SP: Illumination - Fire Dance by Jennifer Thomas
Choreography by Massimo Scali

Yes please to both.

I'm a bit bummed that Karen dumped her Rohene-choreographed SP, but at least she's doing it in spring rather than mid-season. I like the music she chose as well. Classical and not too off-the-wall for judges, but a unique and interesting choice.

Betina Popova/Sergei Mozgov
SD/RD:
Alfred Schnittke’s “Tango in a Madhouse.”
FD: soundtrack from "Master and Margarita" by Igor Korniliuk
Betuna has already skated to this music with her previous partner, Yuri Vlasenko

A surprising decision to go back to the music you've already skated to with another partner... But I assume the whole team knows what they do...

"Tango in a Madhouse" will always remind me of one of Mao's old short programmes. Ah, the memories...

She explained her decision to get back to this music in the article
Master and Margarita was our dream,” said Popova. “I already skated to it with Jura (Vlasenko), but we competed it twice and were told to change it. For me, this was very sad that I had to leave this program behind. I just love this character. I get into it, I live it.”

Mozgov was all for it right away. “I also wanted to skate to this for a long time, for your years already,” he revealed, “but until now, the coaching staff always said that this music has a bad vibe. There was a lot of superstition.”

Popova agrees that the dramatic, dark music is not easy to interpret. “But we’re not the kind of skaters that like lyrical stuff. We don’t want this romantic style, you suffer … that’s not us,” she said. “We’ll be like crazy and that’s us,” her partner confirmed.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjcnAHvnn8R/ ...this is supposed to be one pose of their short ;)

Btw, I don't know if it was already mentioned but John Kerr worked at their programs.

How many pairs are salivating after having John Kerr work with them, after the groundbreaking work he's done for James/Cipres and Sav/Mas? Both J/C and S/M were featured in an interesting article in the lead-up to the Olympics, which discusses how the ice dance discipline has been revolutionizing the way pairs programs are being developed:

Oh no. Karen is seeming to start very early with changing her mind about programs every five minutes. Please figure it out, find something you are inspired by and stick with it, Karen. I would imagine that skaters still have to pay choreographers for their time, even if they later scrap programs. I wouldn't have this reaction if not for Karen's numerous program changes last season, and also the initial confusion over whether she choreographed On Golden Pond, or whether she got a bit of assistance from Jonathan Cassar!

But okay, I get it if Karen ran into Massimo, they connected and he came up with something she liked better. However, if that's the case, it seems to me she should have waited a bit prior to working with Rohene to be sure who she wished to work with. I mean, is their any unwritten rule about this? I'd think choreographers would be hesitant to work with someone who bails on programs as soon as they are presented with something they like better. It's like being mesmerized by exciting choices in a candy store, and unable to make up one's mind. Maybe it's about maturing and finding out who you are, what works for you, and what you want. I hope this Illumination - Fire Dance works for Karen:

In general for all skaters, seemingly there's a process for connecting with a choreographer and deciding to work together? Maybe it's more casual in some cases. It's likely also about whether or not a choreographer has time in their schedule, and trying to avoid conflicts working with too many top skaters who are direct competitors? I don't know. It seems that some of the top go-to choreographers like Lori Nichol and David Wilson are fairly selective about who they will work with. It's also the case that some choreographers and skaters may not be on the same wavelength creatively. If something isn't working it is best to do something about it sooner than later. Tom Dickson is another wonderful choreographer. He seems to really enjoy working with Satoko Miyahara, and he's done great work with Adam Rippon and Matt Savoie, et al.

Perhaps it's slightly different for relatively new choreographers like Charlie White, who don't yet have a solid track record, and are trying to build a body of work with skaters they are inspired by.

I'd love to see what kind of choreo Rohene could do for J/C. Hopefully, they will work together at some point. :saint:

Cross-posting from pairs thread in Trash Can:
... Vanessa posted on Twitter that they've just finished their free skate choreography, working with Charlie White: https://twitter.com/VanessaJamessk8/status/1004488022270889985 No news on music yet, though.

Interesting [as posted in this thread, the speculation is something from Beyonce's Lemonade]. I wonder did J/C get to talking with Charlie on tour or something and they mutually decided to work together? Or did Charlie approach them with an idea? Maybe Charlie DM'ed Vanessa with an idea after she asked fans for music suggestions? What else has Charlie done in terms of choreo? I know he worked with Vincent Zhou last season, but Zhou didn't keep the program because the music wasn't quite right for him and the way his coaching team approached putting it altogether like paint by numbers wasn't the best.

I haven't heard that J/C announced their sp yet. Perhaps they worked with John Kerr, Barrett and Fontana again on their sp? I hope. Or, as I said, I'd love to see what Rohene could come up with for them. Perhaps J/C are planning to keep one of their prior short programs from past two seasons (both were great).

Per a post on Silvia Fontana's Facebook, it looks like Charlie White is choreographing a program for Denney/Frazier. :)
Haven Denney (who rarely posts on social media) thanked Charlie White yesterday for choreographing her and Brandon Frazier's programs (plural): https://www.instagram.com/p/Bjs81CPls-h/?taken-by=havendenney1028

Morgan Cipres' IG post mentioned that White was with their group in Florida for 2 weeks: https://www.instagram.com/p/BjsLXJ2B0YA/?taken-by=morgan2477

BTW, it was Rohene Ward who posted on his IG that he had choreographed a SP for Karen Chen back in late March; Karen never mentioned it herself. I think it's a good thing that she's working with different choreographers and seeing what fits (or not) during the off season.

ETA:

Benoit Richaud choreographed programs (plural) for the Knierims: https://www.instagram.com/p/BjnUCNJjS-I/?taken-by=benoitrichaud
Alexa's comment: "Can’t wait to enhance the programs as the season progresses."
