I'm lame and can't find the Korean skating thread, so I'll post here that I love how Young You sings along with her music. She is so naturally expressive and seems to have a lot of joy in her skating; I hope she never loses that as the stakes rise.

He had a serious ankle fracture and has plates and screws. I broke my ankle in late May and I'm amazed he's able to skate at all.

That is really unfortunate Hopefully, they will bounce back later in the season.

Last season Mishina/Galliamov did not have JGP events and yet the season turned out alright, so I hope that even if Atakhanova/Volodin won’t get healed in time to get any JGP, they still may do well at the nationals and get to junior worlds. Or do some challenger events and get some ranking points and season best score.

If the earlier comp you are referencing is the Chesapeake Open, their absence from awards means absolutely nothing. A lot of skaters don't stay for awards at club comps (they are not held the minute the event ends), esp at the higher levels....they've been at the rink for several hours or more, they and their parents are tired, it's kind of a chaotic atmosphere, and a lot of skaters and parents just leave as soon as they are done. If there is any convo or questioning needed with the judges, the coach is the one who handles that anyway.

Elizaveta K. and Nazarov are here, so by implication the Russians’ provisional plan is for Shevchenko/Eremenko and Ushakova/Nekrasov to get one of the remaining places. JGP Vancouver is the only event without a top-tier Russian team.

The Greens belatedly appear. This is probably their best chance at an outright win, though two silvers would almost certainly be enough for a Final spot. Hard to know how they’ll do, particularly as there’s no news as to why they were absent from the scene in recent months.

Fisher/Malette-Paquette also belatedly show up after unexplained withdrawal from earlier events. Also, happy to see Bronsard/Bouaraguia here; they’re new to the junior scene, but were really good at Championnats.

Nice men’s lineup, between Pulkinen, Phan, and Sumoto. They could all podium and make the final, actually — depending, in the first two cases, on how they perform in their first event.

Russians will probably move their teams ... depending on placement in the next JGP. The list for JGP Vancouver is not final! And I predict that K/ V will do great! And curious to see K/M...

Can someone explain to me why is USFSA sending 3 pairs teams now into a field where this is 20, and then where there was like 8 teams in the field they sent squat? (Bratislava)

Id rather send a team to Bratislava where there is at least a reasonable chance they could come in 4th......

Why is there an imbalance of fields too as the series goes forward? Meaning 8 pairs in one stop and 20 in another?

Can someone explain to me why is USFSA sending 3 pairs teams now into a field where this is 20, and then where there was like 8 teams in the field they sent squat? (Bratislava)

Ostrava is the 4th and final JGP for pairs. 13 pairs are entered for both this week's JGP in Austria and the 3rd JGP for pairs in Vancouver.

I wonder what Russia will do with its second assignments for ladies. Last year, a skater had to win gold to be assigned a second event. This year Russia looks even more dominant with the best Japanese skaters having moved up to the GP. It's very possible that there will be a lot of Russian silver medalists. I especially want to see what they do with Tarakanova, who is currently scheduled to face off with Shcherbakova in Can at JGP #4. Surely, they'd give a returning JGPF medalist a second event even if she earned silver?

As usual, Russia doesn't have enough spots for its group of talented skaters. I wonder if Guilakova will get anything; if not JGP, I hope she's sent on the Challenger circuit. Gubanova was named, but then removed (boot problems?). Hope she can get everything sorted and either end up on the JGP and Challenger circuits or Challenger/ROS GP.

Also interested in whether Cui keeps her provisional second assignment. Cui placed higher than Kalyan (who doesn't have a second assignment) did at her event, but her overall total was 5 points lower. Then again, AUT was a lower-scoring event across the board, and Cui has more "potential" with her harder jump combinations and stronger resume.

Gubanova is competing this week at a local junior competition (Wed and Thurs). There should be videos in the K&C section. I don't think the aim is Rostelecom GP but she more than likely will do some Challenger events.
