I'm so happy Donnell won! I stayed up late to watch event finals on demand because I didn't want to get spoiled for it, and I'm SO glad I got to see it live. What a wonderful result!
And great that he won it especially because I've read some more code changes are going to devalue his dismount (remove a bonus actually), which would make it a lot harder to win.
Blakeley was beautiful on bars, shame she just missed out on the podium due to D Score. I am pulling for her to stay healthy for LA.
Honestly, 4th on bars was an absolute WIN for Skye. Many people felt she'd have a hard time even making the final. 4th was better than could have been expected.
Overall, I'm pleased with the American ladies. Dulcy is very young, and she has time. Suni had a lot of inconsistency issues when she was younger as well, and look at her now!
That being said, I did hear a lot of "Dulcy proved the doubters wrong!" after quals, which surprised me. I don't think I've ever heard anyone suggest that Dulcy's gymnastic wouldn't score well internationally The concern for her has always been consistency, and I think worlds showed that continued to be a concern. But like I said, she's young, especially now that people don't act like gymnasts expire at 18 anymore. She may improve on that front.
Before worlds, I heard a lot of "US fans better get ready to come home with 0 medals for the women" and "when was the last time US won 0 medals," so I'm glad to see Leanne and Josc prove the doubters wrong! Certainly it was not as strong a showing as in the past, but we have a lot of injured gymnasts as well. I expect the US to be less dominant, not only without Simone, but because the world is catching up. I don't think that's a bad thing. But I still think they'll be competitive. It's only the first year of the quad.
