2025–26 Canadian Women: News and Updates

Arrghh missed it - Ted was just talking about being able to watch live stream of the Olympic Team selection announcement this evening - but I missed the time. I think he said 7 pm but even if he did I didn't hear the time zone. Anybody catch it?

Medland Spence had to withdraw from the free skate at nationals due to vertigo. She seems determined to come back so I hope Skate Canada will give her opportunities next season if she can get healthy again.

Congratulations to Maddie on getting her second Olympic ticket. And I'm sure she's especially thrilled that her BFF Lia is going too.

Solid championship debut for Minsol. I somewhat suspect that the component marks would have been higher if she was eligible for international competitions this season.

This was a great nationals for the women. The top 10 all met the minimum target score for a senior international (with Woodley and Rose eligible to skate senior next season; Lin still has another season to wait). I hope there will be a strong Canadian presence on the international scene next season.

I hope Megan Woodley especially is given ample opportunities next year and is seriously considered for Skate Canada, as well as Minsol Kwon if she is released by then. Looking forward to Reese Rose and Fee Ann also getting some assignments/love.
I agree completely. Woodley did so well in the short program at her JPG last season but has been inconsistent since. She seems to be settling in now. Rose is really learning to hone in her power and was so much more controlled at nationals compared to previous skates. Landry was dealing with an injury and couldn't practice lutz or flip (they talked about this on the nationals stream a lot) otherwise she would have had an assignment.

Best case scenario is Landry and Woodley (if the latter gets the jr worlds spot) puts up a high enough season best score to get a grand prix next season (not as an easy task but maybe keeping in mind retirements and those not age eligible).

I remember a few time they didn't even use their three host spots at SCI and I'm glad we're in a place where we have plenty of worthy skaters for those spots.

National team selection will be interesting, if it's top 3 from nationals plus grand prix skaters. Considering Kwon's unknown status or if Daleman will continue next season or not.

Gosh I really feel for her. I have had only one episode of vertigo and the first few minutes of it was probably the worst I've felt in my life. It felt like I was spinning, my vision was wavy like some cartoon representation of taking drugs, I was instantly incredibly nauseous and drenched in sweat, and that was all before the vomiting started. I seriously cannot imagine doing something like a spin or multi-revolution jump if I was experiencing even a fraction of those symptoms. She's a tough woman, I'm sure we'll see her back and even stronger in the future.

Because everybody wants a really poor Olympics history lesson.

And let's make this about me instead of the athletes.

Figured it would be handy to re-post this-

Finishers in place 3-6 in Senior Women at Nationals are too young (but 3 of those 4 will be old enough next season), and 10th place MMP has no internationals to date.
