Hmm. Well. It's lovely music, but I'm not sure it's strong enough to bring out of them what they need to bring out. We'll have to wait and see.

As for the RD, Phebe Bekker was right. Where people used to go through all the music and end up with Carmen, they're now going through all the '90s music and ending up with Backstreet Boys.

And I kind of wonder if "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" is even going to stand. Seems too slow/downbeat, considering everyone else seems to be under the impression (likely for good reason) that the entire program needs to be uptempo.

They're going for familiarity with the Italian home audience -

The film was a major hit, grossing over 16 million euros at the Italian box office, with over 2.1 million admissions. It was Özpetek's highest-grossing film in his career.

I do agree, the pieces they've selected from the soundtrack are quite lovely. Perfect for background music at a three-star Michelin restaurant. Listening to the rest of the soundtrack - tracks are exactly who GuigFab are as a team. Perfectly refined, perfectly nice, perfectly innocuous - and not all that compelling.

Oh boy, I don't trust them and Barbara to make their Backstreet Boys RD into something that doesn't make the audience think they are too old for this sh*t. Even S/F with their New Kids On The Block come across as too old for that style, and they are significantly younger than G/F. I also wonder how Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely meets the fast tempo requirement. Anyway, RD does not bode well for them IMHO.

The FD, on the other hand, can be a success I think. The last track in particular can make the Italians at the Olympics go crazy, so I think they chose the right music. I'm not sure it will be enough for a medal, but they can get the home crowd behind them, and that can help.

One of the teams from Barbara's group already got dinged with a music violation at Bolero Cup for not being sufficiently uptempo, so they'd have no excuse for making that error. Maybe they're using a remix (or have adjusted the tempo :scream: ).

OTOH, props to them for choosing music that is not only new to them but new to FS for the FD.

I recall G/F doing some odd tempo manipulations for Holding Out For a Hero and a butchering of Against All Odds.

I just hope they come out fully baked and approved. They can’t afford any missteps if they want to … podium against all odds.

I asked my Italian friend if she knows the Diamanti soundtrack and the songs and she said that she doesn't feel like it was that successful or well known. She is in her early thirties. It doesn't sound like it's the kind of programme that everyone in the audience will immediately recognise/identify with. But, the music is lovely and I'm glad they are going for something soft and romantic. I'm excited to see it.

Not really, its quite obscure, certainly not anything most of the audience would recognize or be familiar with.

As an Italian, I feel the same, not something a big crowd would recognize and be excited about.

2.1 million tickets sold in a country of 60 million isn't a huge amount, but isn't terrible for an "art film" either. I'm guessing maybe the movie spoke to them, or Babs, in a way they felt like it would make a good dance?

I was kind of hoping they might do something fun like "Barber of Seville," but, alas....

Or maybe the Rabbit of Seville? ;)

Well, there’s going my G/F My Cousin Vinny RD wish. It’s would have stood out as one of the few country programs😜They even kind of fit the look of the characters. Charlene could have even worn the floral catsuit from the movie. It’s also Italian adjacent movie.
