JPG #1 - Riga LAT - Dance RD & FD

Robertson/Rohnher

leap into twizzles, little spinny from him on last one, nice levels on one foot turns (3 & 2), some work to do on making sure they are exiting a twizzle, turn, etc. at the same time--slight mismatches throughout, good lifts, impactful performance. Awesome JGP debut!

I have a Zoom meeting and have to miss the last two teams. :( I never time these things right.

Very impressive from R/R!

Mouaden/Bigot

Everyone is copying Higuchi's music this year, good balance during straight line lift, is there enough of a beat to this music--seems like there was rather a long moment of silence? Blazing speed and they are getting good levels on the steps, crazy rotational lift position, some interesting choreo in the last third of the program--could use more expression at beginning-mid of program

I think I liked this better than Canadians on TES and liked the Canadians better on PCS

I think this will get better at the season goes on and they sell it more.

The Ice Dance medals will be presented first, followed by those for the Men.
Gold in one and silver in the other for
🇨🇦
!!!

Interesting early head-to-head with CAN #1 and FRA 2. Can't wait to see both these teams at their next competition.

The US reloading onto the podium. Well done from these newbies.

Lots of rebuilding/new teams farther down the ranks with good potential.

Off to a great start to the season! :encore:

I preferred Mouaden/Bigot but can see it going either way. We don’t always get suspense in dance results so I am happy.

I may worry about the future of other disciplines but not Dance.

Amazing the little Frenchies are doing this well given they are 3 years younger than the Canadians. Actually 4, in skating years, given their late in the year birthdays.

An almost OOPS on the medal presentation - the bronze medals were being presented to the winners of the silver.... Fortunately, it was corrected :)

And the "bombastic" version of O Canada again.

Yeah, a Men’s JGP medal on top of pairs and ice dance gold. Good for Canada!

ETA: what were the French trolled about? Please don’t tell me it’s her ethnicity.

In a comment under the video of the RD:
Dear @SkatingISU, could you please give a lifetime ban (and also prevent the creation of further accounts) to Nerfertiti100 user because she is harrassing and having very rude comments towards young athletes. In a SafeSport environnement, it's our duty to protect children
The reply:
The commentators on the ISU feed just directly called out this person for their bullying of this couple. Imagine the absolute shame of knowing that the global skating community has identified you (NEFERTITI100) as a troll!

That account was flooding the Youtube videos of all the dancers of Villard with very nasty comments all season long last season. Weight references, mental disorder references ... Loicia was heavily targeted all season long. During this JGP, it attacked Dania & Theo, Lou & Lucas, Romane & Lucas.

But mentioned name is not its only name. It's the same account (it appears as GENGIS KHAN in the ISU live feed) that has flooded the ISU stream with broken english insults (toward dancers and toward people who were answering it) during MANY ice dance competitions. And it also belong to the same person who was doing the same a while back under the name DHARMA. It was posting agressively under every video of Virtue/Moir during their come back, calling Tessa a lot of nasty names.

It posts a big poopoo. And waits for the cavalry. And then stirs the sh*t for as long a it can.
So being mentioned by a commentator is probably a badge of honor for that troll.

The Kobor's were a little too cautious for me in this program. An Irish-themed program needs to have at least one section skated with reckless abandon to really make it work.

I thought that was a respectable outing for a new team. Yeah it's not quite what the previous partnership was, but Louis did a respectable job partnering Ashlie, and I look forward to seeing them once they've had more run throughs.

Speed and power, for a young team yes, but some of the finer details were missing, and they were sloppy in various places.

Some very interesting, and unique movements in the choreography - the combination lift, and the sliding element were particular stand outs.
