Plane Crash in Philadelphia

There are videos of the crash from multiple angles already on social media & being replayed on the news. The plane looks like a comet streaking across the sky. It was fully fueled, which is what caused the immense fireball when it hit the ground. Absolutely terrifying. :(

Yes, it definitely is. There are cars on the ground that were completely incinerated. I do hope they were empty when consumed by the fireball.
Local news reports have been dire. Mentions of people on fire, body parts, etc. No one has any idea the casualties.

ETA: I made the mistake of watching one compilation of videos shared by NBCPhiladelphia that included human remains/body parts on the ground. There was a graphic content warning but I didn’t expect that to be shared when they were bleeping out other stuff.

Reports in the nursing community that it was a pediatric patient. Good god, more dead kids. This week has been too much
Yes, I'm not sure where my mom heard (she texted me about it), but apparently it was a young patient who had been undergoing treatment at Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia.

ETA - listening to Fox and Shriners Hospital has released a statement confirming the patient was theirs.

God, that was horrifying. I hear it struck a mall. It could be a long while before we know a death toll if that's the case.

Horrifying. For those who don't know Philadelphia, this is a tiny airport with no commercial flights in a very urban, densely populated area. This is one of the worst possible areas for a crash.

My immediate family is about 10 miles away, so they're all safe. I used to have family who lived very near to the crash site, but they all died or moved away. Crazy to see this.

Luckily, it seems like the mall, which is more of a shopping center than a true mall, did not take a direct hit. Neither did the densely packed rowhouses (terraced houses). The casualties could have been far, far worse if the plane hit in the middle of one of the long terraces. For as urban as the area is, the specific site where the plane came down seems to have been very lucky, as good as it gets. I'm guessing this came down to luck because it looks like the pilot had no control of the plane, and it may have been on fire even prior to crashing.

This one will be a lot more difficult to investigate. The plane was clearly on fire/out of control as it came down. VASAviation has the ATC audio + radar, and it was a perfectly normal conversation. The pilot read back the ATC instructions with no sign of issues. And barely a breath later, the plane starts dropping. Whatever happened must have been quick. There are no distress calls, nothing. Just silence.

Talked to my cousin today. As I feared, people in her apartment building next to the mall were injured. She however has been living elsewhere since a fire in her wing drove her out last year. We don’t have a great relationship (which is why I didn’t know she wasn’t there) but it was a relief that plane debris didn’t fall on her head.

Sorry to hear about the injuries, but it's truly amazing that the death count of people not on the plane seems to be only one.

Where the plane hit was nothing short of miraculous, given how densely populated the area is. ~100 feet in any direction, and we likely would have injuries in the hundreds and fatalities in the 10s to hundreds.
