2024 ISU Congress Agenda

Onto 47 - USFS pairs senior female age proposal - withdrawn - which means Korytek/Chapman are not age eligible for either senior or junior this coming season.

Canada withdraws 48 & 49.

Canada is also withdrawing 50 and asking it to be included in the Constitution modernization review.

And we are on the LAST of the General Regulations... Whew. Tomorrow we will start with the FS Branch meeting bright and early!

FYI - FS Branch is going to have an extended morning session ending at 2pm PT and the lunch break afterward ahead of whatever special event the USFS is hosting at 4pm.

The general public (not fans) only watch skating during the Olympics. Otherwise out of sight out of mind.
What's interesting is that when you read the social media dialogue for most it not all of the "legacy" Olympic Winter and Summer sports (those which existed in the Olympic programme pre-2000), it's the exact same grievances and suggestions as to "how to (supposedly) save <fill in the blank sport>". It's incorrect to assume that the talking points discussed here to this point are inherently unique to skating.

45 - JSF asking what the rationale for the 7-yr age gap for pairs & dance teams is - explanation is safeguarding from extreme age gaps in junior partnerships.

Just 3 against, 2 abstentions - passes overwhelmingly.

What about the age limitation change for Novice Pairs & Ice Dance? Is it included in this one or did they withdraw it?

I have been in 1000000 meetings for work this week and am wondering if someone can summarize age changes. I am a bit confused by what was posted here--it's me being somewhat dense, I must admit.

Yes, the Novice age changes were part of the ISU proposal.

Here is a list of all the proposals that were voted on so far (on the ISU website)

President's report - including updates on the different working groups -

Split panel - no progress, focused on improving judges education, will reexamine the split panel idea in 2026?
OWG qualification - the current qualification system makes the most sense, could make additional recommendations in the future (doesn't seem likely)
Technical panel accuracy - ISU contacted SportLogic about developing technology to measure jump rotations which proved successful in proof of concept stage, working to move to the next stage and exploring AI possibilities, currently testing video capabilities, could move to further testing this next season

Also we know the results of the Solo Ice Dance and Age Harmonization working groups. :)

ETA - I'm a little behind the live stream and trying to catch up.

Canada withdrew their music rotation proposal. Onto Japan's 10pm event conclusion proposal - rejected.

ETA - Germany's music tempo violation also rejected.

Netherlands proposal about fall deductions is now under discussion - they're open to amending the proposal.

Is that the bald guy who just spoke, before Auxier? I missed his intro.
Well, there are lots of bald guys, lol.

Netherlands proposal was rejected, USFS withdrew their proposal for the dance lift timing because they believe it will be addressed in the new software update.

Wieland Luthers, who has been ISU Event Manager for Figure Skating since 2016, was the person who spoke about the danger of back flips when a practice group or warm-up group is on ice. He earlier also had been ISU Assistant Event Manager for Figure Skating. (In other words, he has a lot of experience :).)

Two bald guys spoke about the proposal from Netherlands.
Jeroen Prins of Netherlands spoke first.
Followed by Wieland Luthers Lüders, who is ISU Event Manager for Figure Skating. (Same guy who was previously mentioned on Monday in this thread.)
Luthers Lüders spoke right before Auxier.

Austria's proposal - I don't think I realized this but the Austrian rep is speaking and basically - they want to keep the current format for Worlds instead of adding the QRs.

Sam Auxier is speaking - they agree with Austria, but they are prepared for whatever decision is made.

ETA - Czech FS (Prague 2026) also spoke in favor of Austria's proposal.

Here is the timestamped link to the discussion this morning - https://www.youtube.com/live/xeLd2u-QPYg?si=NyuMyBQEieUjH8bg&t=5054

OMG - I'm floored. Proposal was accepted. So we're back to the old system for Worlds, no QRs!!!!!

Yes. No QRs at all going forward.

I'm sure there will be an update from the Boston organizing committee with a revised schedule but I guess people can change their hotel reservations or spend a full extra day on sightseeing, lol.
lol yeah but honestly my son was bugging me about wanting to "actually see stuff" so this is fine

OK, ISU deserves rights for once.

OK, ISU deserves rights for once.
I'm just sitting here laughing. They went through this process and lengthy debate when it was implemented a few years ago only for them to pull back at, literally, the last possible minute and revert to the schedule/format we've had in place since QRs were eliminated, what, a dozen years ago? What was the point in the entire exercise of agreeing to bring back the QRs then?
