Harry Belafonte died of a heart attack at age 96.

Harry Belafonte, the dashing singer, actor and activist who became an indispensable supporter of the civil rights movement, died Tuesday at the age of 96.

What I didn't know was that he was politically active, as a civil rights activist who worked with MLK.

He was the first black artist to win a Tony (Chris Hayes reported on msnbc).

I found out about Mr. Belafonte’s activism from reading a Sydney Poitier biography, so I moved to reading his My Song: A Memoir. Fascinating person, wonderful entertainer.

Just the little bit of singing from his heart you posted @Dobre made me cry.

Happy he had a long life.
