Why did Fiona withdraw from Coupe de Printemps?
The press release from Skate Canada said it was due to an injury :(

Yes, that was reported by Lance Vipond in an interview on Skate Ontario's 3Turn3 show last week :)
Lance Vipond talks about Schizas starting here :): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4_Q9-_3IaY&t=1140s

Coupe du Printemps results for the 4 Canadian women this past weekend (Junior bronze for Canadian-Russian Aleksa Volkova in her international debut) - I've cross-posted this recap in the Canadian Men's news thread:
I enjoyed watching Lucille Yang's Adv. Novice (ballet) FS yesterday - she finished 5th of 29 girls.

Sigh. Schizas' short was so frustrating. She's about 5 1/2 points out of the top 10 but imagine if she had been clean. There are so many good skaters in this field it's going to be hard to move up. I'm resigned to Canada having only one spot at Montreal worlds next year :(

No doubt - and it will likely be filled by Kaiya Ruiter unless Schizas decides to focus explicitly on skating and gets better choreography.

"Likely" is a bit much at this juncture, I would say. Ruiter has yet to ever beat Schizas head-to-head.

Agreed, I don't think Schizas or Ruiter have reached their potential yet, Ruiter’s way forward is much simpler though at present she is lazer focused and has a fabulous coach. Schizas has decisions and priorities to figure out. Next season will be interesting.

I think it might take someone other then Schizas to get that 2nd spot unless things change.

I'm not sure where the narrative that Schizas isn't focusing on skating came from.

She is attending university, but she was last season as well, and it's not unusual for elite athletes to attend school while competing.

I didn’t say she wasn’t focused? I know I was the parent of a national athlete who did school and sport. The reality is she has not improved in her consistency. So something has to change. What that might be I’m not sure? That’s for Maddie and her team to figure out.

Based on the interviews I have seen of Maddie, she seems a very intelligent young woman with serious goals. She also seems to have a very good relationship with her coaching staff. I am sure they are analyzing everything. I recall Kaetlyn having her frustrating years so I remain optimistic. Maddie has been on a rapid trajectory until this year.

I feel like Maddie needs to make some changes. I don't know what, though. It seems like she's flatlined a bit this season and seems to be stuck trying to break into the top ten.

I feel like Maddie faces unfair and possibly unrealistic expectations, as many excellent but not worlds-top-10 ladies skaters Canada have had to, like Jennifer Robinson. She rose to prominence during yet another time where there weren't a lot of competitors behind her. She carried it with aplomb last year, at least during the Olympic team event, but that competition seems to be more of an anomaly than a reflection of her potential.

It's very likely she's been unfairly been pushed into the role of Canada's next saviour of ladies' skating, but if everything was fair she'd be a regular silver or bronze medalist supporting someone like a Kaetlyn or a Joannie -- even a Cynthia. But when things are dire, someone like Madelaine has to carry expectations and pressure despite maybe not being up to the task.

I hope she'll do much better when there's legit competition at Canadians. And here's hoping she can close out the season with a LP she can be proud of.
