RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II

The shopkeepers in London wouldn’t take his British pounds because he had paper ones not the new plastic ones.
We had this during the summer - first trip to England in 3 years and Daughter had a couple of notes from previous trips. Any post office will change them for you, but you have to have a bank account for a bank to do it.

DH’s colleague traded him Euros for the pounds and will then convert them to the new pounds.

Technically, the post office doesn’t have to do it either. Banks may or may not do it - there’s not a universal rule. Some will exchange a small amount even if you don’t have an account; some won’t do it at all. It may vary by branch. I believe the only entity that will definitely exchange your notes is the Bank of England itself, though I don’t know of anyone who has had to do that.

The Queen's corgis are going to live with Andrew and Sarah:

I was just coming here to attach the People article. It just says the 2 Corgis. What about the other two? I didn't even know Andrew and Fergie were still together.
No doubt the Queens Corgis have a more secure retirement than 90 percent of us. lol
They said yesterday that they have specially made beds and special meals cooked for them, but that the Queen always fed them herself. I wonder if they will have to hire a personal servant for them.

I think they are capable of feeding them lol.

Andrew and his family bought those two dogs. The deal always was that they would take them back in the end :(
But they shouldn't split up the family of dogs, after they have just lost their "mother".

Andrew and Fergie remain divorces but she lives in the same large house, I’ve assumed because she was in massive debt and can’t afford a place of her own.

Apparently they’ve been staying with him for a while now so the dogs aren’t always together anyway. According to something I read earlier - I’m not an expert or anything ;) One of the others has been staying with a trainer. It didn’t say where the 4th had been but suggested Andrew might take it too.

We'll probably never know (and honestly it's none of our business), but I'll always be curious about what happened between Tuesday and Thursday that resulted in such a sharp decline but did not require hospitalization. I suspect she either died suddenly and the earlier statement was just to give us all time to prepare, or else she had a terminal illness that they were managing quietly.
Given her age, the decline was probably there for a time and she was able to present herself well all along. She did have the kind of help that most people don’t so could keep appearing to the public although limited.

Anything about the dogs' new owners can be posted here:

I’ve been working all weekend and just caught this now.I know Boris Johnson is a bit of a joke on this forum and In other ways but I really can’t fault this speech he made.

Boris Johnson's speech was great.

Theresa May's, too (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5nyH2CG7rY) - touching, personal, funny, reverent. She had several cathartic LOL moments. It's a shame May couldn't bring some of that passion and energy to her government.

I live right off of one of the main thoroughfares between Buckingham Palace (or Parliament) to Kensington Palace, or from any of the former locations to Heathrow.

Since the Queen passed, there have been daily motorcades that usually have turned out to be nothing. Lots of people crowded and holding up phones only to have a bunch of people on horseback come by.

Just now, I took a break to go running. I was crossing the street into Hyde Park. Yet another motorcade. So I stopped on the median, after briefly deciding not to sprint across ahead of the motorcade. I was the only one standing there.

An old school brown car went by carrying none other than King Charles and Queen Camilla 😱, who I presume are going from Westminster to Heathrow. My jaw literally dropped, and I couldn’t react quickly enough to get a photo. They made eye contact with me and were probably doing their best not to laugh at my stupidity 🤣. While I never saw HM QE2 despite living in the neighbourhood, it didn’t take long for an encounter with Charles. No one else in the vicinity seemed to realize what was going on.

One more post from me: the area around Buckingham Palace is already extremely crowded with security protocols in place. It’s a far cry from when I went on the 8th and 9th of September, where you could walk right up to the gates. Most of the normal paths there are closed, and queues on a Monday morning at 11 am were really long. I suppose this was inevitable, just passing along the message for anyone who is thinking of going. I was considering whether to go for the transport of the coffin either to or from there, but I’m going to scrap that plan. I’ll try to figure out the route they’ll take from the airport and station myself along there.

RIP Queen Elizabeth and condolences to our UK friends. ❤️

Even though I'm unrelated to the UK, the British royal family has been an inescapable presence as long as I can remember, as is probably the case with anyone with access to any sort of news. :) Is it strange that I almost feel a personal loss? It was reassuring that such a lofty position was occupied by a woman.

Queen Elisabeth always looked benevolent and modest. She was relatable in her own spontaneous way, without being in-your-face like a politician on a campaign tour. For someone who has had to adhere to a very strict code of conduct, she had such a twinkle in the eye and a smile that hadn't changed for ninety years, according to her photos. She seems to have had a wicked sense of humour. :)

I love her unexpected sides, such as her enjoying to drive her Range Rovers fast. Love the story about her giving the then Saudi crown prince Abdullah a fright by taking the wheel and speeding along the narrow paths of Balmoral, talking to him all the time. Women not being allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, apparently he freaked out and asked her several times to slow down and concentrate on the road. Very well done!

This performance with Paddington has to be my family's favorite Queen moment and a last cheeky good-bye from this great lady. :wuzrobbed

I feel like I had higher expectations of Boris than what he ended up doing, is what I'd say. With someone like Trump, the US was dead in the water, but Boris was just disappointing with the UK (although to my understanding he gave a good pathway to UK citizenship for Hong Kongers, so there's that).

And yes, that's a great speech.

Just an "airport" comment - The King flew in and out of RAF Northolt (not Heathrow) and that is where The Queen's coffin will arrive as well.

At this moment the procession is enroute to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh for a service beginning shortly.

Only working members of Royal Family will wear military uniform for ceremonial events honouring The Queen over next week, but there's a bit of a double standard happening:

As a non-working member of the family, Prince Andrew will not wear uniform to above events. However, “as a special mark of respect”, a royal source says he will at the final vigil in Westminster Hall. HOWEVER, Prince Harry will NOT be allowed to wear uniform at any ceremonial events.

Kind of funny that the two not allowed to wear the uniform for all events are the only members of the immediate royal family who actually partook in wartime service (Andrew in the Falklands War, Harry in Afghanistan), whereas the others didn't see any actual combat. IMO they are bot non-working members, both have lost their titles, so should be treated equally in their right to a uniform (whether all events, none, or just the final vigil), the double standard is just wrong to me.

It’s lovely that it’s a sunny day in Edinburgh. As solemn an occasion as this is, it is wonderful to see the views of this most interesting and beautiful city.
I don't know what was done in Edinburgh to mark the death of previous sovereigns, but the late Queen was the first reigning monarch to die on Scottish soil since James V in 1542! I am glad that Scotland's capital city had good weather so that those who wanted to turn out could do so.
