You do realize that the war in Ukraine is a good half a continent away from Montpellier, right?
Not that things couldn't further escalate in the next week, but from what most FSUers in western Europe are reporting, life is moving along fairly normally in their neck of the woods. Seriously, the distance is akin to being in Denver while there's a war in Atlanta.

Let's look at this another way. The distance from Odessa, Texas to Montpelier, Vermont is only about two thirds as far as from Odesa, Ukraine to Montpellier, France.Even that is closer than Ukraine to Montepellier. Atlanta to Phoenix is more like it. (Yes, I figured it out.

(Also contains some more depth on how his coming out came to be and some serious talk about the world around him, as well as your usual sample of Jason sunshine delight.)

Poor Vincent. It sounds like he may not be in the best mindset for Worlds, but I’m really hoping he has a great experience there as a positive step forward. As always, I appreciate his thoughtfulness and his candor about how he’s working through such a difficult situation.

Nathan Chen has withdrawn from ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2022, U.S. Figure Skating announced Tuesday.
“I am disappointed to have to withdraw from Worlds,” Chen said. “I have been training for this competition since returning from Beijing. I have a nagging injury that I've been dealing with, and I don’t want to risk further injury by practicing and competing next week.”
Chen won the Olympic gold medal in February and is the three-time reigning World champion.
Camden Pulkinen, who will be making his World Championships debut, will replace Chen. The World Championships are set for March 21-27 in Montpellier, France.

Dangit, this is such a bummer that Nathan had to withdraw. 
I was hoping to see him skate once more this season.
Hopefully Vincent is prepared for the challenge and wins another medal, and hopefully Ilia goes in feeling free and unpressured to do more than just skate his best and let the chips fall where they may.
Camden... Yeah, I expect one good segment and one disaster, since that's his usual MO. Maybe it will be different with his GF there.

Chronic hip pain. He doesn't want to further injure it. He may have been advised that the previous avulsion repair could tear, or other type of injury if he continued competing.

Saw this post and told him good luck but to keep his stuff together. He is, IMO, overly emotional when he skates and has issues dealing with the adrenalin. Nathan is the antithesis and Johnny Weir has said on many occasions that he has ice water running through his veins..Camden's IG post about the news...

Here’s a comment that sounds like yours in one of the replies to Camden’s tweet that I embedded into my earlier post:

Glad Nathan is taking care of himself. We still are sending a phenomenally talented team to Worlds.
It would have been nice if Jason or Nathan were there. Not just for qualification reasons but to see them compete once more. I think it's very likely that we won't see either of them compete again. It's times like this that I wish we had a few high quality pro competitions. But, I totally understand their decisions.
This definitely puts pressure on Camden.
I don't think Vincent will feel any more pressure than he already feels after what happened at Worlds last year and what happened at the Olympics. He was going to feel a ton of pressure anyway.
I hope that both of them do well and that Ilia has a fabulous Worlds debut.
Kagiyama has a huge opportunity now.

I'm sad Nathan has withdrawn from Worlds. But he needs to take care of himself so he can skate in the shows that I'm sure he is contractually obligated. And of course, he shouldn't risk long term injury.
I was selfishly hoping that the US could get two men on the podium at this Worlds but I don't think that will happen now. The Japanese men are very strong too. This is a tremendous opportunity for Vincent to step into the spotlight and grab (possibly) a world championship. Also a great opportunity for Ilia and Camden. Good luck to all the US men. This is going to be a very interesting competition.
