What is going on with Stepanova!? I read they missed their flight today and their last chance to leave is tomorrow!

Danny G has cleared up and is leaving today.
This sounds very bad. :(

I have not read of anything regarding YKW but may be that is their problem?
I hope not.

Is the alternate available, just in case? I really really want StepBuk to compete in these Olympics. Will they ever catch a break?

I don't know what you are talking about.

I see nothing on the previous page that indicates they retired.
This was a poster (a wonderful one IMO!) who was away for a while. So she didn't even recognize M&G and wondered who was the third pair on the team, aside from them and B&K, thinking perhaps T&M had retired. Amy L was just informing her T&M actually were that third member of the team, she wasn't saying T&M were the third ranked team. I think all involved are fans of T&M actually.

I hope SinKats skate well in the individual event and are satisfied with their performances. It's a shame that his injuries have hampered them exactly at this moment, but that's the sport. They have done very well considering and totally earned their Team gold with their two skates.

I do think they can still medal, but they need to skate their absolute best. And agree that Zhulin always going so super conservative in Olympic years is not helping. Having more adventurous programs would boost them when they're skating through injury. I like the music selection for the RD, though. The FD is pleasant, but needs a stronger concept.
Funny, I may be the only one who doesn't care for the 'adventurous' programs. I love it when ice dancers use classical music. I Loved Hawayek Baker's FD for the same reason. I liked s/K's FD. It is just that C/B skated great and beat them. At least one US dance team is likely to beat them. JMO.

I feel like the conversation about S/K gets distorted by people who dislike them talking about them constantly. Like... constantly. It's so weird. They even invade S/K's thread in the Russian fan board and post about them all the time on sports.ru. I've never seen anything quite like it (although in fairness I did take a pretty substantial hiatus from watching skating in the 2000's so maybe it's not as odd as I find it). Of course they're subject to fair criticism, but it feels like some people have never given up their vendetta against them and just push it constantly in this slightly obsessive fashion.

I hope they have great skates and are judged fairly in the personal.
I am not sure about the vendetta against them. They are not the darlings of everyone but I don't think the judges will be unfair to them if they skate well. They did skate well in the FD. I was glad that their error in the RD didn't get past the judges.

I have mixed feelings about them. They skate well when healthy and they deserved their world title last year. On a personal level I cannot forget what Nikita did to his then partner Elena in 2014, but she has found happiness in her life, and she is happy for his success. So May be it is time for fans (including me) to move past that.

If S/K skate well (and I hope they do), I have no problem with them winning a medal in the individual event. I even like their FD this year, no one else here seems to like it. LOL.

"One-to-One" series of interviews with some of the Russian skaters that are filmed as monologues. Videos with Mark Kondratiuk, Vika Sinitsina and Aleksandr Gallyamov have been posted so far

Here's one with Mark (was filmed after Europeans but before the Olympics)

Maybe it's not great for an athlete, but my life motto is to never set the highest possible bar. When you reach this bar, you are surprised and feel genuine happiness.
I honestly do not see myself as a leader of the team (men's team). But even if I did, I would not have thought or talk about it, because it's easier that way. When the burden of responsibility and expectations are not lying on your shoulders. It's simply more comfortable this way.
(Aim for the Olympics) To skate decently. I have a rather competitive elements and tech, so if I skate to my more or less full potential, then I will have a good overall placement. But I am going there not for a placement... and to say the truth, for me it would be a sin to complain. I qualified to the Olympics, and I was 16th at the Moscow junior championship two years ago. The fact that I am going there is already a miracle to some extent. Probably, I just got the golden lottery ticket. But I had to dedicate my whole life to skating in order to get this lucky ticket, and not only my - my parents, my coach. So yes, I was lucky to get this chance, and so far I have been taking this chance.

Did Teams Russia, USA and Japan ever collect their respective medals? The medals cerem was postponed twice. I wonder if something’s up.

If, for some crazy reason, a medal-winning team is disqualified, then Canada (4th place) steps up to a medal. I hope that whatever’s going on with the TE medals ceremony is resolved soon & that the top 3 stay as originally named.

All three Russian men are 18 year old. So it is reasonable to expect that they will be competing for spots in the next Olympics.

I wonder if they are waiting until Vincent tests negative so he can be there and receive his silver medal. That would be the classy thing to do, IMO.
No, that's not why. Saw this on Reddit:
"The IOC said that today there will be new information on the situation with the transfer of the awards ceremony for the winners of the team figure skating tournament.

"An urgent situation has arisen that has required legal advice. It is currently being developed. We will provide additional information during today," Adams spokesman said at an IOC briefing.

Ps: I’m gonna add more from the briefing, it indicates there are several issues with different athletes that earned medals

“You can bet your last dollar on the fact that we are doing everything to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. It involves athletes who have won medals. But, as you understand, legal nuances sometimes drag on,” Adams said at a briefing, answering to the question of how soon the award ceremony can take place and whether the skaters, who are supposed to leave China after the end of the individual tournament for men on Thursday, will have time to receive their awards."

Guess I was so excited about the US getting the silver I didn’t notice the lack of medals!
Well, you were better than me because I thought they actually were the medals.
I mean, I was a bit confused but little surprises me nowadays. :slinkaway:D

It's being discussed in the OWG subforum in KnC, but here's an article from InsideTheGames

The ISU confirmed the delay has been caused by a legal issue.

A situation involving Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the international doping authorities is believed to be the cause of the delay, insidethegames understands.

It is believed the problem refers to a drugs test conducted before Beijing 2022.

All I gotta say is "ruh-roh" for the ROC and its future within the Olympic movement if this pans out...

Yahoo News has picked this up. This seems to be the first news that picks up on the notion that Canada might move up to earn the bronce, if one of the above teams is disqualified.

No another main stream media speculating that, including CBC a few hours ago.

LOL - If you think @Louis is annoyed at the idea of Karen Chen or Alexa Knierim being Olympic medalists, I'm betting this might drive him right off the edge of that cliff he's on!

And, for all who complained about them, James/Radford too!

I need to get myself to my Russian TV channels…

I’ll be really mad if Mark-Superstar’s (or anyone else’s) medal is taken away!!!!!! ?

Karen Chen and Alexa Knierim would be Olympic GOLD medalists :scream: :yikes:.

WTF is going on, and why wasn't this legal issue determined before the ROC was allowed to compete? It will be incredibly unfair if the team loses their gold medal over one athlete mistakenly being allowed to compete, if that athlete could have been substituted for someone with proper clearance to compete.

it's being discussed in the WOG subforum in more depth - doping test results often take several weeks to come back so it sounds like it might be a timing issue of when the results were returned.
