Speaking of Linichuk, where is she? What is she doing nowadays?
Also, is Marina Zueva still coaching?

According to Zhulin, the last thing I heard about Linichuk was that she kicked her now ex-husband Gennadi Karsonopov out their house, and took all their money from their shared bank account and left him with nothing. She posts nice things about her former pupils on Instagram though.

As for Zueva? Enjoying a quieter life coaching in Florida. She created a kick ass RD for Muramoto/Takahashi this season.

Zhulin is such a special character. Are sales of his Biography going well?

Did you know that Daisuke Takahashi switched to dance and skates with Kana Muramoto? Didn't make the Olympics but check out their RD from NHK. Coolest program of the season. Marina is their coach.
I knew was going into ID, but I haven't seen anything yet.
Imma going to check that one. Thanks. :)

Oh dear. I know I shouldn't laugh but this made me laugh. LOL

I'm not sure if anyone saw the interview with Olivia Smart and TSL but she's a very good interviewee and said that she'd never met Zhulin but when he's in the room she gets bad vibes - like obviously just from the TV I 100% agree. He has a certain terrifying/creep presence for me.

How rude to say of someone you've never met. She's just salty because he coaches her overall more sucessful rivals.

She did meet him, he was at competitions where both S/D and H/K competed, she just never communicated with him directly. What she said is that she felt a bad vibe from him and H/K's other coach, something that she didn't feel from H/K themselves btw. It seems like they as coaches had more issues with the rivalry than the skaters themselves, or at least acted that way.

Re: Chock, she has never had great edges. Quite shallow and she doesn’t skate with much power.

What helps her a lot is a gorgeous, expressive face and the ability to hit beautiful positions, especially in lifts.
Same exact sentence could be written about Stepanova.

Our entertaining friend @MarieM has posted more than once about Alexandra that she can dance but she can't skate. I think that's an overstatement but agree that dancers like Chock and Stepanova bring something else to the table.

I also loved Dom/Shabs, they were my favorite Russian team since....U/Z. I used to call Max "Colin Firthov" because he looked like a Russian version of my favorite actor. And their Masquerade Waltz was wonderful....

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a program like this competing for the top spots again:

Excuse the 2007-level of skill. Sure it was rough, a bit...gaudy, and not refined, but it's different, busy, and truly fit DomShabs. That hard-edged, aggressive quality adds to it actually. Montreal has variety in choreography, but nothing like the above would come out of them because they just don't have the same aesthetics.

I see what you’re saying, but Chock, facially, is way more expressive than Stepanova to me. Chock is practically an actress out there. No one can touch her in this regard. (I think her ability to express so well gives the judges some leeway to overlook other weaknesses in her skating.)

But this season, Stepanova is starting to mark her edges, thanks to probably Morozov. That's all that ever lacked from her IMO of course. If Stepanova starts skating more on edges, they may well be the talk of the next quad.

As for Dom&Shab, she was a fabulous skater. A fabulous dancer. But he couldn't keep up with his bad knees. Too bad because they could have been superstars.

Yeah, having a (Russian) team really go aggressive like DomShabs in some of their programs or Grishuk/Platov (always) has been missing from dance IMO. Montreal has some variety in their choreo now, but they always go for smoothness. I kinda miss someone just setting everything on fire... NA commentators always hated it, but I thought it was cool.

And for all the good I think Zhulin did with SinKats, I think he rather limited them with his FD selections. Their tango RD was very good and really suited them, they could have gone for something more dynamic in an FD as well. But somehow most of the top teams don't really to break out of that "serious, floaty" mode, even if it does not suit them. Same goes for H/D. C/B have been trying a bit now, so that's cool.

He didn't limit them IMO. They can't skate to anything else. Because of injuries I bet mainly. But also because Vika isn't really good at anything else, or has never been pushed to.
She's like Domnina, but Domnina was forced to emote more and it was good.

See, I think she could have been pushed. The tango was different, their RDs show more variation. She'll never be a fierce diva, but more variety in performance style was totally achievable. Zhulin just didn't want to risk anything, was my impression.

Are there any news about Stepanova/Bukin? Are they in Beijing? I'm really looking forward to watch them skate on Olympic ice. :)

My vibe from Zhulin is arrogance/entitlement, with a particular macho/womanizer tilt to it.

The excerpts from his biography shared by @TAHbKA simply add to this impression.
