The Amazing Race (Season 33) returns!

I love Sherri and I am hoping they are just editing her husband to be a jerk since he seems to be doing so much for the youth in their school district back home. He is not displaying his coaching talents so far but again maybe it's the editing. I did wish Sherri had maybe worked on her fitness knowing there was a chance of starting up again at some time.

Kudos to her for doing the height task. My husband and I went to Switzerland in July 2019 and it was so beautiful. We were in Lucerne and it was like being in a storybook! We have it on our travel list to go back one day when the world calms down.

I didn't mind the flight attendants on this episode - they seemed more fun.
DId anyone notice in next weeks preview it look like only 5 or maybe 6 teams came back to finish - that's too bad if true.
They invited previously eliminated teams to come back, so they would have a good number of teams to start Not all the teams who had not been eliminated, were able to come back so I'm glad they filled in the numbers with previous teams.

I would not want to do the show
It's not the way I enjoy traveling. As an American living in Germany for almost 9 years now, I see it every day with American co-workers who travel like they're working their way through a checklist, trying to "hit" or "check off" as many countries as possible in the shortest amount of time. I like to go somewhere for a reason and actually experience what life is like there. My favorite trips involve renting an apartment and spending time doing every day things like going to the grocery store.

That being said, if I were picked to go on the show, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't turn it down

I liked this week's episode. Beautiful scenery with classic TAR challenges. I was surprised that Sheridan actually did the bungee jump. I'm sorry that the French train heroes couldn't come back for the continuation. They would have provided some much needed high-level competition.

She had no choice. Akbar was over the weight limit.

Which is why his bitching at her later on pissed me off so much. He has no leg to stand on as she did what would have to be the two worst Roadblocks for her because he wasn't able to and got through them. He should be bowing down to her at every instance not nitpicking her performance.

Oh, yeah. I was snarking at him through the whole stairs challenge. What was it --all of an hour earlier maybe that he was so proud of her? I hope she enjoyed that thirty seconds.

I would have died just from standing on the platform for that bungee jump. They would have had to have thrown me over to get me to do that one. And if I had survived that, I would have died on those stairs, because my husband would totally have chosen to do the stairs over making sausage. There would have been DRAMA over that one.

The other married couple get along much too well and seem to actually like each other, and I thought it was nice that they paused to give Sherri encouragement (although I suspect they might have wanted a minute of rest).

Did anyone else see that guy RUNNING up those stairs in one of the distance shots?

It's good to know that I can get out of having to do the bungee jump challenges just by being too fat. :shuffle:

I was a little bummed all of the teams couldn't come back (though maybe not the Love Island couple) and I hope some of them get a do-over on a future edition.

Akbar is awful. And then at the end when they were both trying to justify their relationship, ugh. Hopefully they are seeing these episodes and realizing how they communicate is pretty terrible.

So on the bungee jump, like how you keep from just slamming into that concrete dam! What if you take and awkward bounce or start swinging sideways or something! They weren't even wearing helmets. Or was that big concrete wall really much farther away than it appeared on TV?

I woulda took one look at those stairs and noped right outta that one. I don't care how long it would have taken to get over to the other task, coulda never done it. I can barely climb the stairs in my house.

Poor Arun and Natalie. At least it seems like they are having fun just having the experience together. When they still went and did the task I figured it was non-elimination because they were already so far behind, why would they even have them do the task if they were just going to get eliminated.

I was wondering that too. I do fine with heights and bungee jumped off Victoria Falls Bridge myself, but I think I would have balked at the dam being so close there. Plus it ruins half the view which is one of the cool things about jumping into a gorge.

I’m scared of heights and hate hanging upside down. Add the jerking that occurs with bungee jumping and it’s a no from me. I could get over one fear in a challenge but not three.

Bungee jumping freaks me out. I'd rather skydive if I had to choose one or the other.
Watching them makes it incredibly heard to believe that Akbar is a motivational coach of any sort, unless it always involves berating the people he's meant to be inspiring.

With the bartender vs sausage challenge, I probably would have gone for the bartender one at first, but once seeing the stairs and calculating how many trips I'd have to take, I would have switched to sausage.

I hate the shameless Travelocity plug. Like what was the purpose of having to skydive with the gnome and bring him on all the tasks, ESPECIALLY when you have to carry him, along with your bags, wine, and chestnuts, up and down those steps?
(Would it have been allowed for them to have one person empty their bag and fill it up with the wine and chestnuts to take just 1-2 trips, and the other person stay at the bottom of the stairs guarding the possessions? Of if they both had to be there to get the clue, one person do that and take up almost everything in their bag one trip, then re-load their bag and each bring up like 1 more bottle of wine on a 2nd trip?)

I'm guessing it explicitly stated they couldn't carry the items in their bags, and I know from previous races that the teams have to stay together unless it's challenge only one of them is doing.

They can only be a certain number of yards apart.

It's probably so the camera operator can film them both.

I'm starting to like Lulu and Lala now though I found them annoying in the before pandemic episodes. I guess it's their new reasons for being here with losing their grandma - it's interesting how their perspective has changed. The first 2 episodes it was all about Lala's break up and get over it and now it's about something so much bigger and more important and that's really endeared them to me.
Still rooting for Sherri all the way - she is a trooper! I hope again they are doing a bad guy edit on Akbar because all these teams seem so nice and well rounded and you need some drama somewhere -maybe that's the best they could get! It will be interesting if Kim and Penn have any major conflict how Akbar is portrayed then.
And I just found out Lulu and Lala's names are Marianela and Marissa!

This is a roadblock I would love to do. How beautiful that water is.
I was SO jealous. Swimming and ziplining together! And Akbar complaining about how cold the water is and how being big was a disadvantage was so  I swim in 55F water without a wetsuit and I'm not the only one and I'm sure that water was in the 60s and he had a wetsuit.

It made me snort at the start when Akbar said 'slow and steady', but then complained about how long Sherri was taking to walk. And it also did amuse me that they got eliminated because HE was the one who was being slow on a challenge. I swear, she has the patience of a saint.

Did anyone watch this week? I enjoyed it, though not the part with the cheese-eating task.:scream: Another non-elimination leg, of course. I guess we might see more of them because there’s fewer teams, I think… right?

I found myself googling “ingesting maggots” as soon as it was over. 😆
