All these rock stars and comedians who are around my age who are passing away brings home my own mortality.

My friends and I saw many these folks in live concerts 40 and 50 years ago, and some of my friends have passed away as well.

”Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end……..”

Same. For me, it’s anyone younger than my brother as he was the cutoff between the adult and kid‘s tables when we were young. Everyone younger than D sat at the kid‘s table, so the family joke is if you are younger than D, you are a kid. Meatloaf was a kid.

Anti-vaxxer. He had previously spoken out against vaccine mandates and ********* rules, saying: "If I die, I die, but I’m not going to be controlled"
Thank you to the hospital staff who took care of this talented man and his selfish choices. I remember when his albums were huge.

Does anyone know what Meatloaf meant by saying he would do anything for love but he wont do "THAT"

What is "THAT"
I believe at one point the female sings "You'll see that it's time to move on", and "You'll be screwing around." He replies "I won't do that".

Basically he is promising to not hurt her or cheat on her and to be a good man.

If you look at the lyrics it's pretty clear what "that" is- it's different in each verse. There are 2 things he will do, and then one thing he won't. The song itself is self explanatory. This is just the first verse.

And I would do anything for love,
I'd run right into hell and back
I would do anything for love,
I'll never lie to you and that's a fact
But I'll never forget the way you feel right now,
Oh no, no way.
And I would do anything for love,
But I won't do that
No I won't do that

He will run to hell and back, he will never lie to you, but he WON'T forget the way you feel right now.

The rest of the song follows a similar pattern.

I always thought THAT was getting married.

I am old enough to remember Meat Loaf's release of the classic Bat Out of Hell album (around 43 million copies sold) and his role in the classic cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show as the motorcycle dude. For a figure skating link, I will always remember that the American CBS coverage played his song I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) at the beginning of the evening coverage of the free dance at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics over the highlights of T&D, U&Z, G&P, B&K, and other top couples. Meat Loaf even made a cameo appearance when the song ended!

Write lyrics that make sense (instead of lyrics that people are trying to figure out thirty years later)?

I think the other explanation doesn't make sense. The lyrics say BUT I won't do that. Not AND. So the thing after the BUT has to be something she wants that he won't do.

I googled:

Following Meat Loaf's death at the age of 74, there has been renewed intrigue about the song's meaning - but the answer to this rock conundrum is much simpler than you think.
In the lyrics, Mr Loaf says he won't move on, or screw around, or stop dreaming about the object of his affections (billed in the song as "Mrs Loud", she was in fact British singer Lorraine Crosby).
In fact, every time he sings "I won't do that", it's to reject the possibility of a specific future transgression.

I watched an interview Meat Loaf did with Dan Rather and the question of the meaning of the lyric came up. Meat said that someone told him that no one will understand that "That" is, and he basically said, "you're nuts, everyone can figure it out." He was surprised that many couldn't. And then the explanation that @cygnus gave is what he explained. Look back at the lyrics before he kept repeating "I would do anything for love" and you find out what the "That" is.

Yeah, here's an example from an article
But I’ll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way
And I would do anything for love
Oh I would do anything for love
Oh I would do anything for love
But I won’t do that, no I won’t do that

“I’D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WON’T DO THAT]

The thing he won’t do, Meat Loaf said, is spelled out in the line before the chorus kicks in. In the lyrics above, for example, he’s saying he would do anything for love, but he won’t ever “stop dreaming of you every night of [his] life.”
What bugs me is who wants him to "stop dreaming of you....." FOR LOVE. Whose love would he get if he did "DO THAT"? Huh?:)

What bugs me is that BUT is being misused. It should just be "I won't do that"
