2022 Nationals in Nashville

Ms. Brennan is stirring the post again, suggesting Nathan Chen and others abandon Nationals and go home!

"As ********* takes out another US figure skating Olympic hopeful, gold-medal contender Nathan Chen and others who could medal in Beijing need to leave the US national championships now and be placed on the Olympic team."
What a shock, someone replied to Brennan and said that their family member tested positive and can't get a refund, so that person is quite sure people are probably positive in the audience but there are no measures to stop that.

Oh, let's see. Didn't I predict this shit a week ago when people were going on and on about feeling safer with the changed protocol?

How much time do athletes have to clear Covid from their bodies in order to get into Beijing?

This is a point of conjecture in other threads. But I think it's 14-18 days?? But, it's not just clearing it from their bodies. Hopefully no lasting effects come from it and interrupt their training. I don't think that would be the case cuz young, healthy, vaccinated athletes seem to be the type who would have a good defense against this particular variant, but there could be many exceptions depending on factors such as underlying conditions or preexisting conditions.

IMHO the no eating or drinking was put in place because United States figure skating has learned from the TSA. If you are not doing anything effective you should be doing something very noticeable because theater will make people think you’re protecting them.

I feel significantly less safe now then I did a few days ago. And if I was a skater I would never ever ever go anywhere near the Concourse, and by the way I have seen some of them there. You are now forced into a much smaller area where lots and lots of people are not wearing mask because they have to do all their eating and drinking there. It’s pretty apparent that US figure skating would like to Make sure this turns into a super spreader event

Oh and by the way it is safe for you to eat and drink in the US figure skating suite (which is in the seating area.)
Since we are all reminiscing about other cultures and food in rinks, when we skating in the T & D World Tour sometimes we skated in a tent that held about 5,000 folks, it was incredible, called the "Big Top". They would have a walkway around the rink of wood shavings and vendors would push these heated food carts around with the best smelling stuff ever. It was hard to concentrate and wow did it make me hungry.

Amber Glenn had to withdraw from the US Nats after testing positive. ?
Well maybe if she was sick last night and that would explain part of what happened.

For those of you in total panic over whether the skaters infected will be allowed to attend, From reading online and doing some research it appears china has already admitted a waiver program will be required.

Do they really need to keep doing these singing sessions? Better to get the competitions going and let the spectators out of the facilities sooner than later for their safety. They are there to watch the competitions, I guess. Just my 2 cents.

I also heard that the tunnel under the official hotel is open to everybody; not just for the people w credentials.

I generally like Brennan but she’s off the deep end here. And this is from a person that’s been on high alert forever and is sitting in inferior seats from the purchased seat for safety

And personally anyone who uses Twitter should be ignored.

The combination has completely changed my view. I admire her for being someone who points out the ugly side of sport, but she’s here participating in an event she claims is unsafe? (And drinking her beverage in the seating area). If she really thinks it’s unsafe and she doesn’t leave then she’s just a hypocrite

So Christine you just went from journalist to media whore. You are not willing to stand behind your claims and you can’t use real journalism you have to resort to Donald Trump Twitter tactics. I’m honestly very disappointed.

This Has nothing to do with your safety and everything to do with the TV broadcast schedule

don’t get confused

US figure skating’s concern of your safety only extends as far as their bottom line

I’d love to know how to get to the tunnel then! Almost fell twice on the ice outside today.

So they came anyway?? Sometimes people really suck.

Does anyone know about this? I mentioned it to someone and they had no idea. And even when I got lost in the bowels of the hotel trying to get back to my room, I never saw a tunnel.

Keep in mind the arena is way less than half full. Looking around I still see ways to get away from others. There’s a reason I haven’t even gone near my seat
It wasn't that was for Ladies FS. The lower bowl was mostly full.

I was moving around earlier in the week both to avoid people and to try to find somewhere to sit that didn't blow cold air on my neck. But every time I sat where no one was around me, someone would come and sit right behind or in front of me. And then I'd have to move again. Finally, when 25 members of the Peal contingent sat in the two rows immediately in front of me for the Jr. Rhythm Dance, I said f' it and stopped doing that.

I asked her about the tunnel again; sorry it is not an underground tunnel that I thought it was.
She says there is a corridor that connects the official hotel and the arena, and everyone, including coaches and athletes and others, are using it. But apparently this corridor does not go all the way to the arena.

You must be very charismatic!

There is a corridor that connects the hotel to the mall next door where the Food Hall is. You still are outside for a lot of it.

Is Brennan still there? If I was a skater, I’d tell her to lead by example.
Brennan is not an athlete who could potentially be named to the team. There is a case for suggesting that the athletes who are going to be named to the team might be better off staying away from Nationals, at least in terms of the solid locks - Nathan, Vincent, H/D, C/B, Alyssa, and then let Nationals determine the rest of the slots, alternates, 4CC and Jr Worlds.

But she undermines her whole position of danger by being there, and being part of the potential dangers by spreading it herself. Furthermore, what I learned from social activism is that you don’t go after the powerless actors who are dependent on the powers that be who are making the decisions regarding their livelihood. Especially with skaters who are conditioned to follow authority or risk losing status among judges and whomever else. She’s going after the wrong people but only serving to shame the ones who happen to be names but in actuality don’t hold the power to do anything to change this current situation without big risk or damage to their reputation- I’m talking outside of USFS as well. She can inspire them to act and risk themselves but shaming them (and selectively choosing who to shame) and calling them out for not doing it is a strange strategy and, let’s face it, only serves to garner clicks for her.

In a non-pushy way, Don Lemon (CNN) asked Knierim and Frazier during a video interview last night whether they felt safe. They said they felt USFS had done what it could. Brandon pointed out how transmissible Omicron is. Brandon said he was feeling better; he has asthma, which may have made his experience more unpleasant than typical.

As a journalist she should be there. You don't question reporters reporting from the war zone. Otherwise, we would not have the story and opposing viewpoint.

I wish USFS had done what they did at last Nationals in Vegas in a secured bubble. These Nationals in Nashville are unsafe in terms of c"vid. I am afraid more skaters will be tested positive during and after the competition. The last hope is any of the Olympic team members tested positive would be PCR negative in 2-3 weeks.

There is a tunnel that goes from the Renaissance Hotel to the arena. It goes under Broadway. I assure you it is there as I have walked it.
Can us lowly peons use the tunnel? ? It’s supposed to be raining all day tomorrow so that would be much appreciated!
