FWIW, I always take any statement that is presented without a corroborating source as basically an opinion or idea. Surely, it's optimal to explicitly state that it's an opinion/personal conclusion, particularly if it's about a controversial subject. And I usually try to do this myself, as much as is reasonable. Still, as a reader, I look for the sources to determine if a statement is news/fact or opinion.

Undoubtedly, particularly when dealing with a controversial subject, it's best to include as many facts/sources as possible to support your arguments, in order to improve the credibility and effectiveness of your writing.

The interviews of Nikita's three coaches are enough for me. From Zhulin: he shouts regularly at both his coaches and partner. From Zueva: she gave him a book to help him manage his temper. From Morozov: he wants to direct practices so his partner works for him or is there to make his life convenient it is not a partnership. These allegations though are old news and as we all know given his talent they will go nowhere unless a victim comes forward and they rarely do. So IMHO, kudos to the young girl that put Sipres on notice. It is what it is.

Foolish man. I hope Vika dumps him after the games.

I thought it was interesting, in going back and looking at old interviews, to see one quote that indicated that the idea of skating together possibly happened after Worlds 2014, not before. It would be crazy if the rumor that S/K were considering skating together actually put the idea in their head and thereby created the reality of it which otherwise might not have existed. It sort of demonstrates the power of rumor. Without rumor, this couple might not exist (if my interpretation of this quote is accurate, which it may not be), but without rumor, they might also have had a much more straightforward time over the years, and be judged solely on their skating.

Hopefully at the Olympics, we'll see them skating their best and being judged accordingly. That's my biggest wish for them, more than the result.

Has the ISU said what the OD themes are for the next few seasons? When do they announce them? And how far in advance?

Or will they wait until after the Olympics/Worlds to see if they make any significant changes at the new ISU Congress, since the post Olympics quad often has new rules/ideas.

Gosh, these Ilinykh/Katsalapov/Morozov talks after all these years (almost 8!!!) make me :slinkaway
I mean, the time has definitely proven that there’s no victim part in that triangular. And it’s also pretty clear that all of them had made some questionable choices in the past, howeber, they managed without putting any guilt on the others people involved (!). Maybe FSU should follow this route?

I don't know the details of their split but I remember the interviews and his words about their partnership and how ironic his comments were: unprofessional, unpredictable and the best one error prone. He is a peculiar character. But you are right it's been eight years and Zhulin has staked his career on Sinkats so hopefully that means he has evolved. But it bogles the mind how far bad behaviour is ignored in the name of sport. Sometimes the ones who move on IMHO are the stronger ones.

Can we PLEASE move this discussion to a different thread. It is getting so far off topic - and it's also getting incredibly personal and unkind towards others.
I am all for moving this topic elsewhere.
I have taken issue with the writing style of someone who advertises their blog in this very forum to garner following and you see this as 'incredible personal'?!?
It is 'unkind' to hold a mirror up to someone who takes on the role of calling others out while hiding behind asterics'ing the names of people they discuss?!?
This isn't about Katsalapov (whom I'm not a fan of...), in case you've missed it.

Yeah no. That's completely untrue. Elena found out what they had been planning on the Sunday before Worlds & almost refused to go to Japan, because what was the point if he was going to ditch her straight after. As you are so interested in your archive trawling, you'll also find someone else posting that they had heard as early as Spring 2013 that Nikita was considering other options.

As for S/K, I don't know why they left Canton, but I had heard from other people based there about him mistreating her in training - mostly verbally, sometimes physically - months before there was any suggestion they were leaving Marina. And I found those reports credible for multiple reasons, but mainly because the attitude he was alleged to be displaying is very similar to what I used to hear from Lena. Maybe he's a reformed character now, I don't know - I stepped away from paying so much attention in part because of hearing stories like this and seeing so many people willing to handwave it away. I hope for Victoria's sake that he is.

So it looks like Lauriault & Le Gac survived their brush with disaster at Skate Canada Challenge yesterday and pulled up to third place by winning the FD today. This leaves Canada with L&LG, Soucisse & Firus, Fabbri & Ayer, and Sales & Wamsteeker in the field to try to position themselves for spots at 4CCs and a possible Worlds berth next season. (Presuming there isn't one available at Worlds this season, which I suppose I should not assume). Are D'Allessandro & Waddell likely to stay on the JGP another season, do we think?

I'm thinking yes, but I don't know what the pov is from Canada. Might depend on the results at Junior Worlds, but while D'A&W have taken a substantial step forward in the junior international field this season, it seems safe to say they will still have room to improve if they compete in juniors another season.

When do they announce them?
Seems like the real announcement is usually right after Worlds?

I thought they usually announced the rhythms/theme for the next season at least a season in advance and then held an RD tech seminar at Worlds - that's what they did in 2019. We knew that it would be musicals/Broadway and the ISU had announced the pattern was the Finnstep as well as march, Charleston and foxtrot options, but I think it was at the seminar they added in waltz as another rhythm option, and they expounded on what music would be acceptable and what would not (ie - jukebox musicals were okay but no general movie soundtracks unless it was from a movie musical - so yes to Chicago, Grease, Mamma Mia but no to Star Wars).

Watching On Edge ep. 3 but didn't see the first two - so is Scott also working with the teams in Montreal sometimes? He just showed up and I was surprised because I wasn't expecting to see him, since I thought he was based somewhere else?

The dinner scenes sort of remind me of some fluff showing what good friends G/P and K/O were when they were training together. :) It may be easier when you are separated by more spots.

God when they talk about the Olympics it makes me sad they won't get what I personally think of the "real" experience. I know all the skaters are accustomed to it by now, I just wish it could be different.

I don't know if they've said anything recently, but in the past they've said they planned to stay junior until they aged out. So I think yes.

Speaking of juniors (I think?): Are Ushakova/Nekrasov injured or where have they been? I lost track of what's going on with them right now. They seem to have a lot of bad luck.

eta: oh, looks like they withdrew from the test skates bc Ushakova was ill. Any word on their recovery?

Not a peep that I've read. You would think we'd hear something.

I haven't tackled following the Russia thread this season. Trying to catch up there feels overwhelming. But you've probably been following it so I'm guessing there's nothing there either?

Wikipedia says it was reported that Ushakova had covid, implying that was why they withdrew from test skates.

U/N showed up at Russian Cup V last month & won but since they only competed once they are not in a good position to qualify for Senior Nationals, according to Jeschke’s chart in Kiss & Cry: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...tic-events-2021-22.108549/page-9#post-6112292
