Skate America 2021 Returns to Las Vegas

The article says:

(Editor’s note: While the Orleans itself is open, the Medley Buffet remains closed – as it has since last March. When plans for a buffet re-opening are announced, we’ll update this article accordingly).

Funny - I’m in Chicago this weekend for the Joffrey Ballet...and was amazed to see - drumroll - an ample BREAKFAST BUFFET just as in the old times!!!! Thank you, City of Chicago, and Residence Inn Marriott near Lyric Opera House!
Now THIS is Progress - Exhibit A! Far happier than my experience in NYC two weeks ago, with so much boarded up near Lincoln Center.

Next week: Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre... let’s see how the “Post-**** Normalcy Meter” for the hospitality industry goes.

As long as it works for the most, I am ok with it.
If all else fails, you can eat at the Copper Whisk Cafe, which is the Orleans coffee shop. $15.99 for steak and salmon filet special in October. There are a few veggy items on menu.

I checked the competition schedule in the SA thread. It seems on Friday the SP comp doesn't start until 6 pm. There will be practices prior to that. If some of us are willing to miss some practices we can have a leisurely lunch on Fri. I expect to be free by 11am, at another location, so it will still work for me.

Saturday seems very busy, starting at 11am.

Thursday dinner could be another option if all of us will be there by 4 pm or earlier.

I am not staying at the Orleans but it sounds like an easy commute for me, by Lyft or by foot.

I cannot fathom tucking a credit card in my bosom. Would that not be uncomfortable? I also foresee a possible morals charge when I attempt to retrieve said card.

LOL. I can not imagine a lady of class like yourself even thinking of doing such a thing! What have we become? WWF attendees now at fs events??? Class, not trash. That is always the goal. hehe

Might as well post the link to USFS' Skate America press release here too (I've already posted this in the TV Alerts forum and in the Skate America subforum in the Kiss & Cry section):
The Ice Desk will stream live from Las Vegas on U.S. Figure Skating's Facebook and YouTube pages. Ali Reid will host the coverage with Olympians Mirai Nagasu (2018 Olympic Team Event bronze medalist and 2008 U.S. champion) and Polina Edmunds (2014 Olympian and three-time U.S. medalist) joining for commentary with a variety of additional guests.
In addition to Ice Desk, U.S. Figure Skating is providing the 2021 Guaranteed Rate Skate America Virtual Fan Experience to help fans feel close to the action from home and enhance the on-site experience. The site offers everything Skate America®, from the full event schedule and starting orders, Ice Desk coverage, giveaways and more. Fans can catch the latest buzz from the event with Consumer Cellular's Stories Worth Talking About news section. Once the competition starts, fans can relive the best moments of the event with Prevagen's Skate America Memorable Moments photo gallery.

Yay! Thank you Sylvia! I think I can actually get Peacock right now on my system, but haven't figured it out yet. I'm learning "Russian Phrases #5" right now for my lesson today and it's not easy. (Not like 1-4 stuck, but it's progress at least). I'm still put off that a Peacock exists, but I'm over it. I just need to connect to it now.... help......

So have we picked a time yet for our meal? I think if we nail down a time, the rest will follow. Looking at the schedule, here are the breaks:

Thurs -- too many people coming in that day to have a meeting.

Fri - Practices are 11am-4pm, Event starts at 6pm. This leaves plenty of time for breakfast and about 1.5 hr for dinner (allowing time to get back to the arena around 5:30pm) unless people are willing to leave the women's practice earlier.

Sat. Practices are 8am to 1pm with the event starting at 1:45pm. If people are willing to skip them, we could do breakfast/brunch. There is a gap from around 5pm to 6:18pm but that's really tight for dinner.

Sun. - the FOFS breakfast is in the AM and the event starts around 11am and lots of people are leaving that day so I think it's out.

How about if people respond with when they can make it by number:
(1) Friday Breakfast
(2) Friday Dinner
(3) Saturday Breakfast/Brunch

Please respond with the number(s) of the slots you are interested in.

Have you thought maybe you could just go to a bar or something between events on Friday. The one time I did a meal I felt like it was hard to meet people besides the few you were seated next to.. Just a thought.

I can't make it to Fri breakfast because of my previously scheduled appointment. Bummer. Would have been my top choice.

Ok with Fri. Dinner (2)
Ok with Saturday breakfast/brunch (3)

We can do any of those times (we tend to skip practices at SA) but once I leave Cincy tomorrow, I won't be on FSU as much, if at all but I'll try to come visit here tomorrow evening once we get there and see what the consensus was for the meet up. I think it will be fun to catch up with everyone there! :)

Since people are getting ready to leave, let's do (3). The only places open for Breakfast are the food court (a couple of places serve breakfast) and the Copper Whisk. For the Copper Whisk, we should get a reservation or at least give them advanced warning.

So new vote:

(1) Food Court for Sat Breakfast
(2) Copper Whisk for Sat. Breakfast

:)

I am unfamiliar with both, so either one will work for me. Just need to know the location. I have never been to the Orleans.

The Copper Whisk is in the middle of everything on the main floor and the food court is off to the side. They are both on the main floor and there are signs so they are easier to find than in the big casinos.

If people are sure they are coming, they can PM me with a phone # and I'll text everybody once we get there.
