Gymnastic news #22 - Tokyo or bust

When Simone fell, I believe the foot up was because of pain. It was a very quick reaction-- I think she needs to pull.

For gawd’s sake Forrester, tell Simone to shut it down. Oh wait, NBC would execute him on the spot.

Simone won't pull. She probably should - like the commercial says "certain laws just don't apply" - she's on the team regardless of what happens here.

So if when they are in Tokyo, someone gets injured, they would bring the 5th gymnast over to the team? They can't sub an alternate once the competition starts?
I believe that's correct - they can't sub in an alternate once the competition actually starts. So it could be interesting.

If Leanne hadn't fallen night 1 on beam... (though she's been inconsistent all year as well...)

Man, what was MyKayla's for the taking is now could be any of her, Grace, Kayla, or even Leanne's for the taking.

I wonder if they really would consider giving Skinner the individual spot and then Grace the team spot, as someone suggested earlier.

Why do the women still have to pretend there's a "routine" on FX or use music when the men just called it tumbling?
Because WAG and MAG are developed by different people and traditions even though they’re under the umbrella of the FIG. Women run how WAG technically develops and men run how MAG does. On the women’s side haven’t quite given up on on tradition and the idea that art can still exist in this sport even if it gets harder to see after every Olympics.

I still don't think that's right about subbing in the extra athlete if someone gets hurt in Tokyo. This is why they're naming alternates tonight and those ladies (along with the men's alternates) are all going to Japan as well. I'm trying to find some information about this because it's driving me nuts.

Grace.... :fragile:

Yeah... looking at the UB and BB scores over both nights from all the gymnasts - McCusker is only 4th in the UB while Eaker is 2nd in BB. I think there is a strong argument for her potentially earning the 4th spot or the individual spot. We'll see how FX and VT wind up.

And McCallum is WAY out on her first tumbling pass.

Suni’s beam :swoon:
Unfortunately for Eaker that probably sank any chance of being considered. Too much chance of not being top two from the US even with a good routine.

And yes for goodness sakes please scratch floor Simone!!! If NBC complains tell them they’ll be way more unhappy if she’s seriously injured at the Olympics.

Oh no Grace. :(

Hopefully Simone does a safe routine or scratches I mean she is a lock. And to be frank the next two so far were going anyways so big deal

Ok, Skinner doesn't really block off the horse well. She just whips her body around. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by Simone's vaulting.

Grace will beat MyKayla overall, but I think that vault sealed the deal for Skinner. I was excited about the potential race, but I really think Grace gave it away.
