Heads up -- Orleans Arena seems to have a new bag policy: a 12x12x4 clear bag or a 4 5x6.5 clutch is permissible.
I think they had that policy for SkAm last time but we were allowed to bring in bigger bags.

Not to my recollection, but ok. I brought my usual larger, opaque bag with no questions asked as there was no prohibition listed on the site at that time.

I also remember that being a thing last time and it was clarified closer to the event and my backpack purse was fine. I will plan to bring a clear bag and check the first day of practices. If it’s now required it’s just a quick run up to the room to change bags (just bring a jacket with a bazillion pockets).

And I remember lots of angst about it and people reporting for a few days on what kind of bags they were allowed to bring in. :D

Ok, I've gone and finally made an account here, because I'm planning to go to SA - in fact I already booked my airfare and room at the Orleans once I saw they were starting to sell out - but how are you all already buying tickets for the event?? The SA link I've seen only lists the all session prices by category and the seating chart. Wheeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrre is a link to buy? An awful lot of people already seem to have their tickets!

This week was the presale for USFS Friends of Figure Skating members only.

Can anyone tell me what % has already sold? Am I okay to wait until the 26th or am I going to regret not being a FOFS?

I think you should be fine. The arena isn't a gigantic one but I remember it having plenty of seats (there are no bad seats IIRC) and Skate America rarely, if ever, sells out. Good luck! :cheer:

We booked our airline tickets yesterday and they were way cheaper than last time. Thank goodness for my mom's gold AmEx card that earns Skymiles! She uses that card exclusively for stuff now that she's retired so she earned a crap ton of miles over the last year or so which took $200 each off of our airline tickets. Thanks mom! :cheer:

You will be fine; however, if you want to be in the first few rows it might be worth the $65 for FOFS. If buying more than one ticket you will pay close to that in Ticketmaster fees, which for the presale there aren’t any. I would rather my $ go to skating than the ticket overlords.

Fewer smokers staying at The Orleans means less smoke in the public areas. (Because let's face it, The Orleans is not a place you make a special trip to in order to eat in its restaurants or to play its slots.)

The Orleans, however, is a MAJOR professional poker hotel.

There was a men's pro tennis tournament held at the UNLV campus during the last publicly attended SKAM, and the Orleans was a host hotel. So there were hot tennis pros along with the beautiful skaters wandering about for the lobbychik-ing crowd. :grope:

How come no one told me this at the time?! :drama:

There was a huge schedule, court assignment and results board right in the hallway leading to the guest elevators. Not to mention very tall guys wandering around with tennis racquets. (Of course the number dwindled as the week progressed.)
That sounds vaguely familiar. I guess I was just focused on the skating.

Do ticket prices go up closer to the event? I can't buy until I get my work schedule for October, which will be in September.

All-event tickets never change in price but they limit how many they sell so I suppose they could sell out. (Has this ever happened for SkAm? I think it has for Nationals and Worlds but not often.) In the summer, tickets for single sessions will go on sale and buying single tickets to each session does cost more than buying an All-Event ticket.

Not going to lie, I wonder what my chances of seeing skaters around the hotel for me to squeee over are!

If it's the official skaters' hotel (I think it is?) then you will probably see skaters out and about.

People often see skaters out and about at the arena during competitions. I saw skaters at two restaurants during one comp I went to - Skate Canada in Victoria. But I guess is depends on the size of the host city and location of the skaters' hotel.

I feel like we ran into skaters every time we turned around the last time we were there for SA so yeah, you'll probably see them around all over the resort. It was very odd to see Bradie Tennell and Nathan Chen walking through the casino areas at times since I don't think either of them were old enough to stay in there at the time, LOL

For those who have already puchased tickets - Were you able to choose your seats? I'm assuming you are able to choose your preferred seats when you go online. Right? Also - did you have to use "wallet" in order to pay?

Did the Orleans require a deposit and if so, is it fully refundable? I haven't call the link yet, but I wanted to be prepared. Thanks.

I'm so tempted. So, so, so tempted. I do either want to go to SKAM or Nationals, but I really need to see my school's calendar first. I will probably end up not going to either (as per usual), but it's fun to fantasize. Both are in good locations for me, as New Orleans has several direct flights to both or I could choose to drive to Nashville (it's only seven hours).

I think Vegas would actually be easier for me, easy to navigate, and as I absolutely loathe and despise everything in Vegas, I would have no guilt about not going out and seeing the city, whereas with Nashville, I'd feel like I should do stuff. It also seems like Vegas with everything in one place is easier to navigate, no need for a rental car or anything. Although skating wise, I think I'd rather go to Nationals. I really, really, really want to see all the US dance teams live for a more direct comparison.

Have they announced a time the tickets go on sale on Wednesday yet? I don't see it listed anywhere. I also don't see the event listed on the Ticketmaster website yet...
