IME pretty much everywhere in Las Vegas smells of smoke. There are some hotels that are explicitly non-smoking, like Aria and the Hilton Elara, but even the casinos in the non-smoking hotels allow smoking. Some of the newer casinos like the one in the Cosmpolitan have more advanced air circulation and filters, so the smoke smell is less noticeable, but it's still there.

I've never stayed at the Orleans, so I can't say how the smell of stale smoke compares to other hotels in Vegas, but Vegas is not really a great destination if you don't like second-hand smoke.

(FWIW Elara is completely non-smoking and it doesn't have a casino. Plus it doesn't face directly onto the Strip so it's relatively quiet. And its staff are unionized, which is a big plus in my book.)

In Olympic years, i.e., 2009 and 2017. Both in Lake Placid. I don't remember about 2013 preceding Sochi.

It was held in Detroit that year (mom and I were there and I remember the debut of D&W's Shez FD :swoon: ).

I am really torn between SA in Vegas and Nationals in Nashville.

We may do both mainly because Nashville doesn't involve any flights for us and it's also an Olympic year (we've already paid for those tickets) and because we had so much fun in Vegas last time. I think a lot will depend on the prices for SA because the tickets and hotel costs weren't really that bad for us but the flight cost was  because we waited too long to book them. We're waiting until we see those prices before we make any firm decisions. Definitely will book flights earlier if we do go though! :yikes:

I have the opposite issue. Flights to Tennessee are expensive!

But I have tickets to Nashville so the question is do we add in Skate America (husband loves Vegas) and/or Skate Canada (I love Vancouver and want him to see it).

Are we allowed to travel to Canada now?

Thought the arena setup in LV was very good and I liked our seats, but the flights are ridiculously expensive and I couldn't get a direct flight. The connections were frenetic and I had to pass through the busiest airports. In view of COVID, I don't trust those who refuse to get vaccinated due to the variants and will not take anything but direct flights.

I am able to get a direct flight to Nashville, so that was the determining factor for me, limiting my time in airports. I will be masked at all times in January.

The NFL schedule is not released until later today; however, there have been some leaks. Week 7 (10/24) for the Raiders shows a home game against Philly. This is not official but just a heads up, especially if you might be flying through the Philadelphia airport.

Well I’ll pass then. Not willing to pay those hotel rates.
Nashville is an easy drive so I’ll do that next season

You can try an AirBnB. I think that's how my hubs got us at the Palms for $100/night. It looks like a condo too, so is in great condition. Of course I need to check if it is in walking distance or Uber. But seems pretty cheap. Nashville would be much more expensive.

It would be Uber, at least at night. There are a ton of construction sites and warehouses from the Palms to the Orleans. I was going to stay there last time and didn’t but made sure to see for myself for potential future visits. The condos do look nice and if free parking you could get a car as the Orleans also has free parking. It would be a short, easy drive.

The rumors were correct and the Las Vegas Raiders will host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, October 24th in a 4:05 pm (Eastern) game. That won't be great for hotel rooms or flights. For me, my NFL team for which I have season tickets has a home game on the Sunday of Skate America, so it's a no-go for me. Definitely looking forward to Nashville, though! Even though my NFL team ALSO has a home game on Sunday, January 9th during the Men's Final...the skating gods and NFL gods didn't play well together for me.

Why aren't "resort fees" just incorporated into the room rate? (Not just for Orleans, but hotels in general these days.) I've been wondering this for awhile...Especially since they usually aren't optional...just came back from Ft. Lauderdale and the "resort fee" pretty much included two bottles of water a day, coffee in the room, and that's pretty much it. Maybe the use of the pool was included in that fee? Just wondering if anyone on here with hotel management experience can rationalize this. :)

Because they are counting on people being stupid and going "look it's only X per night" and not realizing they have this automatic markup!

Because hotels are hoping that 299 a night is more attractive than say $339 a night if you were to add in the stupid resort fee

Just ordered my tickets. Anyone found the hotel link referenced on the official page yet?
Just re-read the pre-sale email again and it says this:
Hotel block information to be provided at a later date.

So, I guess it's not available yet.(?).
