Daniil Gleikhengauz confirmed that Kamila Valieva is keeping her Bolero LP for the Olympic season.
Yes. We didn't even try to keep it in secret. We are good at it, like we did with Don Quixote

I think that is an excellent idea. It's improved with every outing this season

It’s the same strategy they had with Alina, so it doesn’t surprise me a bit.
My concern is I don't think they are going to want to give another Olympic gold medal to a 15 year old. If Kamila can make her Bolero program even better and have a great short program to go along with it she could still pull it off. But the powers-that-be obviously wanted to get away from 15 year old girls winning the Olympics. Which is why they're going to raise the age after the Olympics.

Alina won Olympic gold at 15. I wish you was still competing because you would have a real shot at the third world spot this season.

Valieva is going to come out of the gate getting 8s and 9s for PCS in international competition next season. It’s going to be solid 9s by the time the Olys roll around. If she has a 3axel and 2 quad toes, I don’t see how they can deny her if Trusova falters.

True, but if Trusova doesn’t falter, they may prefer to award it to a more mature lady with more and harder quads.

Gold medals are not given, they are earned. If a 15 year old skates better than older ladies, she'll earn it.;)
She's going to have to. If it's a super close competition like it the last Olympics between alina and Jenna don't expect the 15 year old to get the nod. ;)

I think it is too early to discuss the medal chances for the Olys 2022. Season 2021 is not yet over, and we don't know who will be on the 2022 Oly Team either. There is a whole season ahead...

I almost feel bad for Anna. Kamila is already in discussions for being the next Olympic champion and isn’t even technically eligible for seniors yet. It has to be difficult to watch you teammate steal your thunder before her time. If all goes according to plan, these are her Olympics to win or lose if she stays healthy. Alina seemed to benefit from skating with no pressure at the Olympics, which even Eteri eluded to. I don’t think it’ll be the same scenario for Kamila. The expectations and hype may be added pressure for her.

Never count Shcherbakova out. Or Trusova. Or Valieva. All of them want this. One of them will probably win (they certainly could sweep which would be a record), but the Olympics can bring out the best in some athletes and others crumble under the pressure. And Kostornaia has had a lot of issues this season, but next year will be a new season. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch. And, none of them have a "right" to any medal. It depends on what they put on the ice in two skates. And, one of the three will miss out on the team event medal which may well inspire them to reach deep ala Sotnikova and get their own medal, thank you very much. I got the winner I wanted in 2014 and again in 2018 so, I'm trying not to have a favorite this time because I don't figure that will happen 3 times.

Let's see, Lipinski won Olympic gold in 1998, Hughes won in 2002. They will totally let a 15/16 win again, even if from the same country!

There is just so much that these girls who skate with ET and coaches do so, so well. Rarely do they miss level 4 step sequences, level 4 spins, their jumps come out of nowhere, they skate fast and with authority, and seem for the most part to be able to deal with the pressures. They are not just jumping beans. I do not care for "Bolero" but think it is a very good program for Kamila. It is a mature piece of music, it grows in intensity, yet doesn't ask her to project feelings that are outside the experience of a young teenager. I don't really understand how raising the age for seniors could work. Wouldn't it then end up with junior skaters consistently doing more difficult content than senior ladies?

And the 12-14 year olds slayed at Russian Junior Nationals today with their multiple quads.

While I would normally agree with you there is a push on to get away from the 15 year old phenom champions. I could be magining that but I don't think so. Kamila will need to be brilliant and better than Alina was to win Olympic gold at 15. That is asking a lot.

Eteri went through this in 2017 2018. History is repeating itself.

And at the press conference, all 3 medalists said they will be skating in Russian Cup Finals. Veronika Zhilina (12) also said that she is skating in the Russian Cup Finals......

You forgot about Anya.

But I do agree with your assessment. By then Sasha could have 3 quads and a triple Axel and Anna could have 3 quads. Aliona could have her 3A back. Hold on to your hats people and get your popcorn ready!

ETA: She qualified in the Junior category for the Final (silver in IV, gold in V) despite her 12th place finish at Junior Nationals earlier today.

Why do you think that? Last year Kostornaia was set to win worlds, or Anna, or Trusova. I think it really likely that our next Oly champion will be young, because they are that good!

Well, Zhilina has nothing to lose by skating at Russian cup final. Getting medal there would hopefully put her on reserve junior team or at least on novice team. Besides, the top junior ladies (the ones with quads) are unlikely competing at Russian cup final, because they don’t need it; they would have already qualified to the national team at the junior nationals. So Zhilina will face slightly weaker competitors than she faced at the nationals. (Some of the stronger ones may want to compete, but not all of them. For example, Tutberidze’s girls may be already thinking about preparing for the next season, so that they are strong in August when they have junior test skates. And I believe Tutberidze prepared some show with her students.) This year, when there is are junior worlds, they can make the season shorter, have a nice break and get ready for the next season.
