Liza Tuktamysheva and Sofia Samodurova having fun at the last practice this year and try to skate to each other’s programs

Stanislava Konstantinova got ‘The White Swan’ part in Pluschenko’s Swan Lake show since Adelina Sotnikova won’t be able to take part in the show due to health reasons
Good for Stasya. She will be great in shows.
She is not competitive anymore. But I'm glad she knows plushenko because he will put her in position and Stasya is spectacular and will do well in shows.

Here's an Adelina Sotnikova article by Anatoly Samokhvalov:
Machine translated excerpt:
"Lizka [Tuktamysheva] is a completely different person. We fought with her since childhood, but she continues and continues, unlike us, for which she just bows deeply and thanks. We are the same age with her, she still pleases people who watch, so to speak, veterans of figure skating. She takes a breath for us. I can only tell her: “Lizka, hold on!” I love her very much as a person, as an athlete, as a friend with whom we walked head to head. I will always support her, if necessary,"- said Sotnikova.

Tony I'm sorry I told you to chill. It clearly really upset you and that wasn't my intention.
Tinami I'm sorry too. I thought you were genuinely asking why people were singling out Scherbakova, so I took the time to try and explain all the points I heard people making. When you came back with the usual "no, it's only because people hate Eteri", I was frustrated for wasting my time. But I could have ignored it instead of mocking.
It bothers me to hear well-meaning people villainized but I obviously shouldn't do the same to you.

This was the most incredible aspect that Valieva and Shcherbakova didn't falter under increasing pressure, but actually skated the best they have all season. That is the mark of true determination. It's a pity some of the Russian men aren't the same competitors as the women. They may be small and they make look delicate, but those young women are killer athletes.
I don't agree to using hindsight to prove toughness. A lot of tough athletes made it to competitions and competed the best they could. Just because they don't have the talent to land quads (or may fall on them) doesn't mean they aren't tough.

Results in competition are often a result of a combination of mental, physical, talent and luck. Many tough competitors have the mental part but not the other components, that's all.

I'm disappointed that the instagram video is Liza doing Sofia's SP. I'd really like to see her do the LP! And actually, Sofia should keep the LP next year, and switch out "Mana Mana" for Liza's "Destination Calabria" exhibition music for the finale!

Liza's original post showed her doing Sofia's LP as well as her SP. Wonder why she took the post down?

Nadia Comaneci says it is the good fortune to be well trained at the perfect place in your sport, with the right other athletes. For her it is serendipity...and hard work. And opportunity.

That's actually a common joke between skaters. We also used to skate our club mates' programs just for fun.

That was how I learned some of the steps btw.
A little off topic but people said Katerina Witt use to do that during practices at major competitions to intimidate her competitors. They put on the music and she would start doing their program while they were trying to practice. Is that actually true?

Yes, even she said she did it. Wasn't the most famous instance of this during '87 Worlds, with Debi Thomas? That part I may be mis-remembering, but it definitely happened in a practice session at a major event.

That's a flex.

I've seen skaters do similar things. For example, I watched Weaver/Poje practice a dance spin and then a second later Virtue/Moir set down right next to them and started spinning too. I assume that was a means of creating a direct comparison in onlookers eyes.

It may have been the 88 Winter Olympics in Calgary Alberta Canada. I think if skaters were doing that and major competitions today a lot of people would be upset by that.

^^ I remember reading about Katerina improvising to Kadavy's Spanish LP music at the 87 World practice. For whatever reason Kadavy didn't complete her run through, so Kat decided to entertain the audience while Kadavy's music was still playing. Witt did have a Spanish SP for the 85 season, so I don't think she really improvised but more likely she recycled parts of her past SP.

I don't believe Witt did the improvising thing at Calgary. That would've been big news, and she was very serious on winning her 2nd gold.

No, it was at '87 Worlds in Cincinnati, they had the same music in Calgary(well, at least the first 1/2 of their programs).

Katarina was interpreting Caryn Kadavy's program during a run through. Of course Caryn was a mental case competitively and probably was affected by it. Someone tough like Debi would have laughed at Kat.

Slightly OT, but this reminds of Pasha saying she could learn B&K’s Riverdance FD in a day and do the steps better. While I agree with her, it’s not like there were any difficult steps or turns to do anyway...

Arina Onischenko's short program is adorable and she's a future to look foward to on the JGP next season.
What JGP? She is 16 and she is far from top skaters. JGP skaters for the next season are Akatieva, Samodelkina, Zhilina, Petrosyan, Berestovskaya, Zakharova, Osokina, Gorbacheva and maybe some others.

Well then it's certainly had carry-over for Katarina and Debbi from 1987 to the Olympics in 1988. I expected Thomas to win the 1988 Winter Olympics but she was not there mentally like Katarina was. Witt knew she was Queen and acted like it.

Speaking of Katarina Witt, maybe some of you would be interested in watching a recent documentary about her: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ld-star-from-the-gdr-documentary-film.107933/

Why don't we wait and see what happens? No need to be so dismissive about someone who just had a respectable national senior debut.

Considering world's has yet to be cancelled, and there is time for her to rest and train, is there any indication they are considering changing Anna's free program for that? I mean adding a third quad like she was attempting last season. I assume they still want three for the Olympics.

All true. Well sad. Especially the IG and TT

Just like the Russian pair skater Tatiana who got dropped on her head in Pittsburgh I believe it was the year they won the Olympics or so I thought. That one with Tatiana probably the worst drop I've ever seen! I believe she went on to marry Alexei Yagudin and have 2 daughters.
I would argue that the fact that she married Yagudin proves she has a permanent brain injury.

Ducking and running....

Anna Shcherbakova is feeling just fine, right after Nationals she did a "Good Morning" show, skating at an open GUM Rink on Red Square.

She also posted several photos from her home New Year day and party, where she also looks "happy and healthy".
