Cross posting from the T/M thread:

It sounds like (via Google Translate) Vladimir’s symptoms are gone now. He has another week of quarantine though.

It appears they’re still going to try to make SA and then do one of the later Russian Cup events.

So Tarasova is not so subtly saying Khudaierdieva/Bazin are winning because their coach is a technical specialist
One question. Is Bazin still copying winner's choreography? That to me is kinda cheating on the PCS. I did not look up and compare in this case but I have in other cases. If this time it is legit theirs then I think it was great and marks well deserved although I am more partial towards Morozov/Bagin

I totally agree. I think she should have come 2nd in the short as well.
Frolova is becoming a much better skater, now that she left Panova and joined a much stricter and more regimented training school of Davydov. Good for her for making this switch.

At the same time, Frolova still needs to work on being more expressive in her movements. She performs nice elements and arm/leg movements, but they look "restricted/reserved". Several people (in Russia) posted the same type of comments "I want to yell to Frolova move that arm deeper, stretch that leg further". I agree with them, for me she skates as there are some "boundries" restricting her movements.

Both Khromykh and Shcherbakova were much more expressive and "free-moving" and it was quite noticeable.

Shcherbakova received higher scores because in Russian rules, those who do extra-difficult jumps and combinations receive bonus points (only in domestic competitions).

Khromykh was 2nd in SP because she had more complicated movements/footwork/stops/elements in her programme than Frolova.

Frolova needs to "go all the way" and put more passion and emotions into her skating, otherwise she is great to watch.

Not surprising: Khuda and Bazin are good (and Khuda certainly presents well on the ice) but anyone with eyes who watched the Russian test skates could have seen that Morozov and Bagin were better! The FD Morozov and Bagin did was breathtaking! I’m surprised more people have not been talking about it here. My guess though is that some people on this board are going to pre-judge them b/c they don’t like the father. But that isn’t right. Morozov and Bagin are their own skaters/people—and, I think their FD at the test skates was one of the highlights of that event. 😊

Well my eyes watched the event this weekend and Khuda and Bazin were much better in the RD and while it was closer in the FD I would still give them the edge over Morozov and Bagin (who are way overscored in general imo).

I think it is exactly the other way round. K/B were much better than M/B

Well, it’s a subjective sport—and that’s why we love it. But I was very moved by the Morozov/Bagin FD and did not think their RD was bad either—I thought they showed good musicality in both and the way they seemed to carve their blades through the ice looked pretty advance to me. Not dissing on Khuda and Bazin, though—they seem lovely (first time I’ve actually heard of them) but I still would not have marked them ahead—even in the RD. But what do I know? I’m certainly not a technical specialist, just a fan. 😁

Junior skater, Daria Sadkova, joined Eteri Tutberidze's group. Daira is from Yoshkar-Ola, and moved to Moscow 3 weeks ago.

Daria's earlier skate before the move.

Daria's today's skate at the Cup of Russia/Junior ladies.

Not surprising, but Elena Radionova officially announced her retirement. Here’s a long interview with her (in Rus)

I wonder why bother to ‘officially announce’ when she has not been competing since October 2018?

Maybe because of the recent Sotskova’s case? Just to make it clear to everyone?
I don’t think she needs to make it clear to ‘everyone’. All she needs is to make sure that her official paperwork has been done. As we haven’t heard about her doping, I think it should be safe to assume that her paperwork indicates she is retired. (Or she doesn’t mind having regular drug tests and has not taken any diuretics yet).

I found them a bit odd. They are zooming across the ice because of open unimaginative choreography and then they stop in the middle to do ultra fast miming while copying several P/C lifts. They have good speed but the hype around them is pathetic. Is everyone so desperate to retire the ailing top teams who are getting up in age?

I thought their flow and lean in and out of moves and even their plain skating across the ice was so fast but seamless & the choreography was very good so to me the skate was exceptional. I also liked Khuda and Bazin but I am not sure about her smile....seriously...it was turning me off. I don't know what the characters they were playing were all about so maybe it is some acting that is above my head.

Artem Kovalyev 's coach, Volkov gave interview

two parts of it

"I don't work with Trusova and Kostornaya

- Are you also attracted to work with Trusova and Kostornaya? Or are you being divorced for time?

- No, I don't work with them. First, let's say, the younger ones skate, then the younger ones of Evgeny Viktorovich. Then - the elders. It turns out, skated - a couple of hours break. And so on, so the day stretches out.

- Did the arrival of Trusova and Kostornaya affect your charges? Maybe they stay after the workout to look, to promote themselves, so to speak.

- Of course, they sometimes watch training. In the hall, they definitely intersect, and for them it is a great experience, it is interesting for them to look at such stars."

and

In response to an offer to organize internal competitions at the Academy: “This should be addressed to Plushenko, for sure there are some such thoughts. But now he is building an ice rink and is very busy with it, plus working with Sasha, Alena, our guys, the same Kovalev. He's really breaking now, and I understand him. "

- Artem said that he wants to compete with Trusova. Any idea to organize some mini-tournament at the academy?

- I have never thought about it, to be honest (smiles).

- But the show will be powerful.

- May be. But to compete with Trusova in jumps? It seems to me unreal. (laughs) She is such a person that it is useless to compete with her in this. Only if Nathan Chen comes.

Artem Kovalyev's interveiw: https://sport24.ru/news/figureskati...-rossii-alene-kostornoy-i-aleksandre-trusovoy

"

  • Evgeni Plushenko often helps you in training?
  • Everyday. He also has his own group, and he helps us - makes transitions, ligaments, steps, teaches us to breathe correctly. Immediately after the skate, I was asked how to skate the program after two unsuccessful jumps at the beginning. It is Evgeny Viktorovich who teaches to abstract - whether he fell or did not fall, it doesn't matter at all. There is a program and you have to go from element to element.
  • What is the most valuable advice he gave you?
  • "At every start you don't have to think about the place." I have to do what I can, and the judges themselves will put me where I deserve. If I do my job, of course.

  • Judging by your instagram, Plushenko is one of your favorite skaters.
  • Yes. And also - Nathan Chen, Yuzuru Hanyu, Javier Fernandez and Soma Uno. I like how they jump.
I am amazed at the courage of Evgeny Viktorovich, as he went to four Olympics, I abstract from what he was told.
  • Have you watched all of his performances at the Olympics?
  • Yes of course.
  • What can you say about Vancouver-2010. Was everything fair?
  • On the one hand - no, he was better in content, in the performance of quads. On the other hand, the goe system appeared, which put Evan Lysacek in first place.

“At the Moscow championship, the emotions from the victory were stronger. There I fought. And here, after the rental, Evgeny Viktorovich (Plushenko) recorded a voice message for me, where he said that this first place is “pure luck”. I agree with that. I was lucky here. Roma Savosin and Makar Ignatov skated in a bad way, ”Kovalev said in an interview with Sport24.

They weren't copying P/C lifts... if anything their lift at the beginning of the program is a copy of the V/M opening lift in Latch. In any case their lifts were just not very original however I didn't think they copied anyone in particular...

Team Tutberidze posted a screenshot of Rudkovskaya's Facebook chat with Zagitova (where Rudkovskaya's message says "Alinochka, Evgeny and me are waiting for you at our new rink opening" with Zagitova responding "Thank you, but I'll stay with Eteri Georgievna") with a caption "Nobody is luring anyone, right?":watch::watch::watch:

And they just posted on the German fs fb-group that Zagitova has switched already 🤦‍♀️

I think this poaching should stop, few skaters are okay, but he is trying to get all the skaters from the group. I wasn't too found of Evgeny, but this is not doing much for him.

Rudkovskaya already responded

"It's unfortunate that there are ignorant people for whom laws don't exist. Hopefully, their (Team Tutberidze) lawyers will explain section 138 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to them. In between practices."
