Her mother is not employed in Canada. Her mother has NEVER been employed in Canada, at least not in full-time employee capacity. Whatever she earned in Russia is irrelevant. They have an apartment, car, etc, there, in Russia. IF her mother were a long-time IT professional / animator in Canada (or the US), and own a house, a car, health insurance (premiums paid by the employer at least to an extent), 401k, savings account, a grandparents house that was inherited and sold - that would be different.

You said that she didn't have a "wealthy or even average family" and it sounded like she came from a disadvantaged background. That is not the case.

I don't think that was the intent, but rather just emphasizing the enormity of figure skating expenses.

Better to say it that way, then. Saying "she doesn't have a wealthy or even average family like most skaters" is misleading. Even if she was less privileged than most skaters, flying to Japan in order to participate in a show is not justifiable on these grounds, in my opinion.

Would not put too much stock in what you are quoting...

Just plain sad in my books. I hope she'll draw the right conclusions and make better decisions going forwards.

Georgi Kunitsa (ex team Tutberidze skater, was 4th at Junior Nats this year) switched to pairs and moved to St Petersburg
This is interesting. Any idea who his partner might be?

Wow, 4th at the nationals, he had a good chance to make it in men. I wonder why the switch. Struggled with quads? Or had no motivation learning quads? I never thought he is that tall. I hope he is not another guy with height under 180cm hoping that he will find a super tiny girl. Who is the partner?

Kunitsa? He seems not that tall and kinda chickenbreast'd.
Interesting choice, especially as he scored not that bad nationally. But I cannot recall him on international circuit, hm.
Let's see.

Additional on Kunitza.

Kunitza transfered to Moskvina's group. This is what Minchuk (a coach from Moskvina's group) said in order to confirm that Kunitza indeed will be training under his guidance. "He came to us earlier for evaluation, as a result we agreed to work together. At present he does not have a specific partner, and will try out several skaters. All the options need to be carefully analysed."

I’m surprised that Kunitsa is switching Pairs. I enjoyed his skating at Junior Nationals and thought he was very well placed to get on the JGP next season (if it goes ahead now). He didn’t get any internationals this season so when Samsonov withdrew from Junior Worlds he hadn‘t the minimums to go so the place wen to Yablokov.

His ISU bio says he is 1.73, not the tallest for a Pairs guy but I think the greatest problem for him will be the crazy depth in Junior Pairs. It will be difficult for him and his his partner to break through. I rewatched junior nationals last week, the standard was crazy deep. He is behind all those Pairs and more, not an easy task.

Elizaveta Tuktamusheva and Yuri Smekalov (Mariinsky theatre dancer and choreographer) have been doing an online collaborating project. They are working on choreo for what is supposed to be Liza's skating program while sitting at their homes. Everyone could join their live streams and follow the process. Liza saved those videos on her Instagram highlites (Online project MAD lab)

They also promised to post the whole version of the 'program'.
Don't know if she uses this program for real or they are doing it just for fun while staying isolated and without ice, but it's definitely a good way to keep themselves and the audience busy during these times :)

Well, they said that this is going to be the new Free Skating. But obviously they'll lhave to see how everything works on the ice and what the grand master Alexei Mishin will say. I thought this project was a great idea, interesting and entertaining. They also involved the fans, asked them to repeat the moves and post a clip. They said they'll also show later how they work on the ice on the program.

We are not talking about disadvantaged background. We are talking about a family from a different country that doesn't own property / car / savings account / investments in Canada or the US. A family that is neither wealthy nor poor by Russian standards. Average. Working professionals not oligarchs. With average salary in Russia being $650 per month. Which is an equivalent of public assistance in the NYC for two people (cash only, excluding food stamps). This is really basic stuff. Doesn't need to be explained.

Medvedeva's family has 2 cars, savings accounts in Russia and several abroad, they own a luxurious apartment, and another one inherited from when older generation family members passed away.

Medvedeva's family is not just at best equivalent of "upper middle class", but more likely now is considered "wealthy"... and not just wealthy but upwardly connected. The older men in her family are/were well connected through "Soujzmultifilm" which is the USSR/Russia State Anime film production company, and a sister company to State operated film company.

Due to their position at Soujzmultfilm, Zhanna Devyatova (original family name) Med's mother, and several relatives (including Med's father Arman Babasyan back when they were young) always had a well paid job in the company or related private ventures. Zhanna Devyatova is a high-level executive at a branched off affiliate company which produces popular children's cartoon series "Fixiki".

I suspect last year or two the mother is working only part time, or on line, given she stays with Med in Canada most of the time. Her position in the company is Manager of Licences and copy-rights. It is a high-paid position and it is possible to work on-line from afar.
Here are photos of Zhanna doing a corporate presentation at a company sponsored event.

The lifestyle of the family and their environment they live in (not related to skating), is of at least an upper middle class. The whole family has a history of getting ahead through connections and politics, vs. starting from scratch or by merit.

Oh, come on, give us more than that!
I don't have more, it's my opinion based on fotos and few comments on social media..... I would not take this info to the bank, but.... would not be surprised if my inkling turned out true. I only seen a few fotos, with Khrustalny kids, and a Competition held at Khrustalny 11 months ago, that's when they met. The two videos with this girl skating with another partner, which i posted above, is taking place in Khrustalny 11 months ago.

But i am sure the coach Minchuk is right when he said that there will try outs with several skaters...

Please, Tinami, don’t make me go through last year’s competitions. Perhaps PM it to me, if you don’t want to post it publicly because it is just a guess?

Not sure how you could possibly know what bank accounts or investments Medvedeva's family has....but from what I have heard from more than one person, that is the exact opposite of what the reality of their situation is at this time.

Med's family is not poor, they have properties, bank accounts in both Russia and Canada, 2 cars (i don't consider cars assets but in russia some people do). There are still sponsors money, FS Feds government stipend, fixed life-long payments for Olympic medals, and income from instagram/social media accounts advertising.

Medvedeva's "roughly estimated" net worth, by an english speaking resource, as of Sept. 2019 is between 1 and 5 million dollars.

For the record, skaters on the team and those in the lime light make very good money, from shows and internet.. Liza Tukhtamysheva, without winning anything major, and being only a "reserve skater on the team" just bought a BMV.... and was complaining that she did not make enough money from some show to buy a much more luxurious and expensive model of Range Rover. When on spends all the show/ad money on a BMV, this is hardly called "struggling".
"Tuktamysheva was dreaming of a Range Rover, but had to settle for BMV-1X which costed only 2 million rubles (33K USD at the time of purchase)"

Pluchenko just posted on line, how much just his son makes per year (from shows, sponsors, and adverts), all by himself, without anything from parents, and not counting the income from internet activities.
He said his son, all by himself made 12 million rubles (in 2019), which in 2019 based on exchange rate per quarters of the year, come to 170,000.00 USD.
"He has his own account. All his living expenses, nannies, drivers, security guards, fun activities are paid from this account. He has 4 sponsors. Recently he did Balmail commercial. His annual income is 12 million (rubles). That is not counting the income from commercials on IG/social media."

I promised myself to stay away from this and not to comment, but this trendcelebsnow.com website is

Let’s ask @taz'smum if she is also a mom of a millionaire then

Given that Japan is declaring a state of emergency, it seems that shows and large gatherings will be cancelled.

So it seems very unlikely Medvedeva’s show will occur.
