Earthquake 85 miles NW of Montego Bay

At 2:10pm a 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked the area. It was felt in Miami where they evacuated some of the high rises as they were swaying.

Something new for south Florida.

7.7--hoping for little damage/few consequences.
However, that doesn't sound optimistic.

Yeah, I see the videos from downtown and Brickell which is just across the bridge from me. I only was in one other earthquake- a big one around Los Angeles when I was a toddler. It had to be '89 or so. Don't remember anything about it.

Northridge in 1994 was 6.8. I was nearly thrown out of my bed.

I cannot even begin to imagine a 7.7..

Could it have been 1987? If so, that would have been the Whittier Narrow quake which did extensive damage in that area.
