Transparency of yuzu

He's human. As well as a tough competitor who doesn't like to lose, especially when he knows he put out less than his best at the competition. I think his emotions of the moment were completely understandable yet still classy. He seems to be a very likeable guy, skating or not.

Yeah. I didn’t know he had any emotions. You nailed it. I thought he would be rejoicing.
Yuzuru is one of the most emotional people ever both on the ice and off it. Ever since he burst in tears after his FS at 2012 Worlds, there was no doubt that he wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s perfectly capable of behaving graciously towards anyone, but he has to have these little moments to vent out his frustration and disappointment with himself. That said, considering the state of his body, he should be proud of how he did on that day.

That hurt to watch but it's yet more confirmation of his superhuman status. A normal person would say, wow, 300-point silver-medal FS with this kind of injury -- not too shabby! But Yuzu is not normal, God bless him. I hope he can compete healthy next season!

Competitive people hate to lose. I don't doubt he was very disappointed in himself not only for not winning gold but not winning gold in front of a home crowd. It's crazy that with all he's accomplished he's still so tough on himself but it's a testament to the kind of competitor he is that he constantly demands more of himself.

Hmmm, what exactly did you expect? Him smashing all the furniture around? Lol

Given the thread title and the simple comment "wow" by the OP yes.

Instead we got a totally normal, fairly restrained response to losing a gold medal, not even a tear.

It was barely worth a comment IMO, it was not even close to being painful to watch, but everyone's mileage clearly varies.

Yes, I actually love this video because it just shows how much he cares .... That's why he is 2-time Olympic champion. :)

I find Yuzuru's character so interesting, because he seems to be quite gracious and gentle off the ice, but such a firebrand on the ice. He is not like Plushenko, who is kind of the same both on and off the ice. LOL. Yuzuru is very interesting that way. Never forget his quote: "I am greedy for winning ...."

But actually, it's interesting to contemplate if he might have more World titles if he weren't so focused on winning. He does put a lot of pressure on himself (I just wonder if that led to the 4S pop in the SP?). OTOH, I do believe he needed every ounce of that desire to make the second OGM happen.

As far as I got it, the ice condition was far from ideal on the day of the SP - it was far too warm in the arena - so it might have led to the pop. Edge jumps are much more dependent on ice.
But his own condition also played into it.

Oh, Claire...this is really "LOL"! What do you know about Plushenko? What do you know about him but you are brave to say such negative opinion on him? Did you read the idiots on Twitter? All of his friends, pupils, who are close to him love! him not just respect. I have a question why he has so many fans over the years? Since 1998 if he is so bad??? Yes, he is not like Yuzuru because he is more serious man he was more serious boy from the beginning but he is kind to his fans always, kind to everbody who didn't attack him before. Jesus! Can you say me one example( don't say Vancouver because that's a little bit different thing) when Plush was rude, impolite, he was not gentle to anybody???? Can you?? Oh, how I bored this and this shows how the Fs world is working..there are people who will be bad forever and there are who will be good...
Do you know their stories? Plushenko knows Yuzuru since 2010 but he inspires Yuzuru from his childhood. He wants to be like Plushenko. Plush was talking with him gave him advices how to be champion. Plush supported him when many Yuzuru fans didn't know he is exist.
p.s.: I didn't say Plushenko is perfect never. I know his faults. He is a human being.

Someone is going to need to explain how saying Plushenko is a firecracker both on and off the ice is bashing him.

Seriously. That's all I meant.

Plushenko is a big personality. He's outspoken, appears frequently in the media, has always been a bit brash in his comments. He's open and opinionated. He even served briefly in a public capacity as a politician. Nothing wrong with any of that--I've always been a fan of Plushenko.

I'm just saying he and Hanyu are quite different in personality. To say they are different doesn't mean I'm saying Plushenko is bad.

Sorry, probably I misunderstood you. Many persons said Plushenko was a "killer" on ice, who wanted to kill everybody, he seemed hard without emotions, he wanted to win everytime, the second place was a failure for him, too, he was very disciplined at K&C always,, etc. But he is not the same in the civil life...
Plush is an internally free person he speaks openly. But the brutally honest opinions are very frequent among the Russians.
He was engaged in tourism when he was a politician in a Putin's opposite party( Now he is a fan :( ) . Nothing serious.

Oh Lord, again Plushenko advocates...

What is the problem? Claire and me had a conversation because I misunderstood her but we cleared the case now.
You are a great Hanyu fan. If you read something bad on him and think that is not true you also start a debate immediately. What is the different???

The difference is I don’t see any “bad things” when none are mentioned. And no, I don’t think Yuzu is any need of my passionate advocacy anyway, he’s carved his own name into the history of FS, so I don’t butt in into every conversation where Yuzuru Hanyu’s name crops up. Don’t invent stuff.

No doubt Yuzuru is great. :respec: :cheer2: The other things are uninterpretable for me. :smokin:

I thought it was a stellar performance given he'd been injured and away from competition. He'll come back stronger next year. He's a fighter for sure.

The problem is he will never think it was stellar. And he was still injured while putting it out on the ice.

I don't know why he would compete again next season. He's highly decorated and a two-time Olympic Champion - but he doesn't have the content to beat Nathan clean-to-clean. I don't think another world silver would be very satisfying.
