So I rarely start threads here but I'm watching World of Dance S3 tonight and wondered if anyone else is watching too. There have been some really strong performances overall (loved those little girls in the pink with the one who doesn't talk much) but the show made it harder to get through round one by raising the minimum score to 85 this year (it used to be 80). Definitely makes it more challenging! Really good show so far though. :)

The last soloist was named Lauren Yakima and I was wondering if she is related to Amy Yakima who had won SYTYCD - along with Fikshun who she was paired with (they had male and female winners that year). Fikshun did the first season of World of Dance - all these dance shows have so much crossover between them and I love them all!

I read that she is Amy's younger sister. I think she bears a resemblance to Amy and has similar power and intensity.

When I heard the name, I thought the same thing. She looks like Amy. Although she's a bit taller, she has a similar body type. She dances in a similar way. I'd be shocked if they aren't sisters.

I am really enjoying this show so far. I loved that contemporary ballerina and the young boy who did a solo contemporary number. I sometimes get exhausted from all the hip hop stuff but it seems like they're trying to give us more variety this year. :cheer:

Very happy for her! I think she is very different from the style we tend to see. She has great technique and flexibility. I have loved so many of the other competitors but she is one of my favorites so far, maybe it has something to do with me liking ice dance which values lines and elegance.

I really enjoyed The Trilogy (love their song choice...that's one of my favorite songs right now) and I'm glad they made it to the next round. :)

It was interesting how many teen groups got busted on choreography. IMO, that’s one of the things that makes me cringe at dance comps. It’s like the studios don’t know what to do with people who look like adults but aren’t. I am so over angsty contractions on repeat. How about some whimsy or some true musicality?

I'm watching. I taped it and only seen the first one. I liked the groups the best. And am looking for some returnees from last season.

I thought it was interesting that no judge commented on the young teen boy who did contemporary. He kept sticking his right leg in the air. He did it so much that I lost track and never used his left leg. It was a bit too much

Try attending a Miss or Mr Teen Dance qualifier. The single sided ponche is the dominant trick. Sometimes, there’s not a single kid who can turn or leap. It’s all three steps, leg, three steps leg.

I know that program was so “ competition”

More really strong performances tonight. I liked the soloist guy who has to have hip surgery this year, the contemporary girl group who were wearing suspenders, and the duo tap girls (I thought they were awesome). I have to admit that I'm kind of over the hip hop groups at this point. They're great and they usually have awesome synchronicity but I'm just over that type of dancing always getting through on this show. I want more variety but maybe that's just me. Overall the show has been great tonight though. :cheer:

After a couple of weeks, I’m really appreciating the pace of WOD. Compared with The Voice and AI, we get twice the contestants on WOD and very little judge antics.

Yeah sometimes I find the judge antics amusing but I often find it’s too much or goes onto long on the Voice.

Don’t miss Jenna and that guy hosting is barely on.

I wish I liked the judges on WOD more.

I do really like Jlo. But I find Derek cheesy too much and smarmy. I find he tries too hard. Occasionally he has moments.

I find Neyo boring most of the time.

I did actually enjoy the debate last night about story vs no narrative etc. Interesting. Very ice dance talk.?

The dancers are really great this year. It’s going to be hard to pick. They are all so good.

Really liked those girls in the end dance.

I too am over the hip hop. Other then the tricks I just find it one note and feels to me that better dancers went home in favour of what to me were mediocre hip hop routines.

Did like that trio though with the askew suits.
