The Dance Hall 6: We're All Off Our Rockers 2018-2019

It is really late, and it has been a really long day; but I just wanted to say, "Congratulations!" to Shevchenko & Eremenko for winning the RD today at the JGPF. They have had my favorite junior RD all season, and had quite a challenging go at their last event so I was excited to see the judges acknowledge this particular dance. The twizzle sequence is fab, and they skate this style really well, plus closer together than most of the junior teams. The crowd around me, obviously, was the most personally invested in the Canadians, but the crowd also received S&E's RD very well. I heard only positive comments about it as the team skated.

I quite enjoyed every team actually. I love the Argentine Tango :) Well done juniors! Thank you for sharing your impressions Dobre.

Maybe it's a case of making his daughter happy by giving her the opportunity to compete and go around the world to various competitions. Plus, it's an activity they get to do together. Maybe he's just happy to have her around and share this experience with her and he's content if she's happy.
 
Interesting scoring Lajoie and Lagha won the PCS albeit by a small margin, and the element where they got the highest GEO their midline step sequence only got a level 2, I don't want to say this tech panel already had it fixed for the Russians, I would have placed , Lajoie and Lagha a close second behind shavshenko and emerenko , the last Russian team that skated did not impress me at all she deviated a lot on the first twizzle and the rest was boring.

I disagree about them being boring. I think they are the most original of all the dance teams.
All in all, for me, the placement was right.
 
Ushakova & Nekrasov have a strong FD which suits their personalities and skating style more than the tango. I think their chance of winning overall with the free is very strong. I just happen to think Shevchenko & Eremenko have the best RD.

(I also think Nguyen & Kolesnik have a great FD. Haven't had a chance to see it live in practice yet as the first practice day they weren't here, and today I desperately needed sleep).

Lajoie & Lagha have struggled with earning higher than level 2 on the step sequences throughout their junior career. It's the main thing I watch for with them.

Why is that I don't wanna say bias but when they finished 4th at worlds the tech controller was Shawn Rettstatt very bias in favor of the americans and his friend igor carreira and ponomarenko magically leaped on the podium and Lajoie and Lagha were taken down the step sequences is the easiest element to manipulate by the tech panel since the viewer at home cannot really tell the difference. The commentator last night mentioned that the judges gave them high goes for the quality of the element so I failed to see where they lost a level. This tech panel is obviously not Canada friendly with Molina and Judy Blumberg anyway we will see what happens tonight.

Some of those were different from the initial calls. However, I don't think there was a lot of screaming in the tech panel table as the scores came out pretty quickly after each team skated.
 
My favourite tango tonight was H/B, why such low scores? I don't really like the new mash-up from H/D the original was better. Oh boy. Back to the drawing board again.
 
I know it's Golden Spin, but interestingly Anna Yanovskaya & Adam Lukas and German team Shari Koch & Christian Nuchtern got level 4s on both tango romantica patterns. Robynne Tweedale & Joseph Buckland got a level 4 and a level 3.

I know that judging is probably lenient and the scores were very high at this event, but by comparison Gilles/Poirer got two level 3s.

It's almost as though the more the teams stick exactly to the requirements of the key points the more wooden it looks, when a team tries to add flair and dynamism the GOE's increase while they lose out on the levels. The system as it currently stands makes no objective sense. What levels did P/C get in France, can anyone recall off hand?

It's like the judges are completely clueless as it regards the value of the performances they are supposedly evaluating. Oh well.

Yep nnyn and yyyy.

Gilles/Poirier had two very good skates I thought in Zagreb. First time ever they have looked like they are in a skating competition rather than a play-acting on ice one; that's what their concentration should be on for the rest of the season.

I wish they would focus like that all season. They need not worry about placement on the GP series as their programs are so demanding and nuanced, they need more time to gel. At the end of the first half of the season and by Canadian Nationals, G/P usually look like a different team.

So is nnnn considered a basic level?

Ill repost from Golden Spin section as I think this is team is dealing with an extra outside factor this year - “I don't think you can underestimate the emotional year this team has had and the toll is takes on the entire team - her Mom's death (who she was very close to by all accounts) and three months later her Grandmothers death. I"m sure they have lost training time and as most of us know, the grieving process is a long and surprising one that impacts people in so many ways and out of the blue. I wish them all the best and am happy for them to show us such great material this year during difficult times”
 
What is with Sinitsina/Katsalapov's leg positions in the helicopter turn to start the pattern? Every other team does straight legs extended at 45 degrees, but their legs don't match and her's is usually bent. It looks similar in every competition but very different from every other team. Is that just style choice for the position of the free leg? I'm not enough of teknik to know.

The rules just say a side lift of the leg; and it's not a key point, so I imagine they are free to interpret this as they choose? However, hers is a forward lift and his is a backward one, so I think it should be questioned by the judges. (Also, I know which muscle groups this is hardest with, and it's not the ones S/K are using)
