Thank You Canada Tour - V/M, Chan, D/R, Osmond

A friend who was there says that Duhamel messed up her throw a little, and was so annoyed that she and Eric ended up changing back into their costumes and doing it again. :lol:
 
The reports really make me wish I could see it, but Quebec City's a bit too far (would be easier if it was an afternoon show). :( Thank goodness it's being televised at least!

Elvis's LP would be super nostalgic for me too, 1994 Olympics is one of my earliest skating memories.
 
I'm so glad I was able to get tickets to the show in St Catharines! :)

I'm going with BF's mom (who lives in St Catharines). She likes watching skating, but I don't think she would enjoy spending an entire day at a competition - so this seems like a good alternative.

I know. But I got the impression that this was such a minor mistake that they weren't going to bother, until she insisted!
 
So glad to learn that the show (don't know which one specifically) will be televised in Canada on CTV, November 24th at 8.00 pm (presumably Eastern time).

I regretted not going, after learning more about the show. Generally I'm not a fan of show skating, but this one appears to be special and unique.
 
So went to the show tonight, thanks to @KatieC and I really enjoyed it. Typically I am not a fan of galas or ice shows but this was really special. Nice to have just the 8 skaters an Elvis blew me away with his Olympic dragon program from 25 years ago, he got a huge standing ovation. I like how short the programs were and the quick changeovers.

Scott an Tessa were amazing their Olympic/world program was the same level so another huge ovation. Osmond struggled a bit with her swan program, I watched it live in Milan is I could see quite th3 difference but her second program later was much better and the triple jump returned.

Eric playing the piano and Chan skating got another huge ovation, if I was a skater I would snap up his new composition “storm” it’s beautiful. I could see Shoma or Hanyu skating to it.

Lovely show I highly recommend!
 
The show was amazing, but I would have enjoyed less group numbers and more individual ones. Just a personal preference, I suppose.

Brought the BF to his first skating show and didn't say too much prior to going so I could get an honest reaction from him. He was floored by Patrick Chan, thought Kaitlyn Weaver was the most beautiful and was "mildly aroused" by Virtue and Moir's MR. :rofl: :rofl:

I was so thrilled to see Elvis do his dragon program! I also loved they introduction where they read the rules. Funny!

Patrick skating while Eric played was such a special moment, and the crowd was really crazy whenever Duhamel and Radford stepped on the ice, since it's Megan's hometown. At the end, Patrick pushed her out of the circle to receive a special thank you from her hometown crowd...she seemed really excited.

THIS! I found there were just too many group numbers in the second half. It's one thing to be hip (pun intended :)) but it's impossible to watch everyone so you always miss a lot in group numbers. Also the individual portions of the group numbers are never fully developed as performance pieces the way a solo number is.
Did they do the thing where everyone lit up their phones but there was nothing going on on the ice? Being at the very first show I always wondered if that was just a glitch that got sorted later.

I hope Eric would not do it, I'd prefer he composes a new piece for other skaters.
 
I really enjoyed the show last night. Like so many others, my highlights were Elvis' Enter the Dragon, and Patrick skating live to Eric's Storm composition. Patrick was just flying over the ice; it was everything that I absolutely love about his skating. :)

At the beginning of the show, Tessa gave her Canadian flag to 2 teenage girls in the ice-level seats right in front of me; they immediately started crying and hugging each other. Then Scott high-fived them at the end of the show, and I swear one of the girls almost fainted. It was adorable. They were having the time of their lives.

I regret not attending the show if only because it would have been great to see Elvis perform live.

But, one of the reasons I didn't go was that I rarely enjoy group numbers.

Particularly the flirty numbers the women often skate to, seems to be one of those in every show I've seen.

Though IIRC Champions on Ice in the US does or used to. I went to one of those shows a very long time, and recall enjoying it because all the skaters performed individually (though there may have group numbers as well, I may not remember since it was over 20 years ago).
 
@Japanfan the only Champions on Ice I went to (also a long time ago) was all individual numbers. I don't mind opening and closing group numbers, but TTYCT 2nd half was almost all group numbers. I might have enjoyed them more if I'd had a seat nearer centre ice. I was on a corner almost behind the three "pillars" where they entered the ice.

And did they ever have anything happening on the ice when all the phones were lit up?

That's what I thought actually, but there are other ways to do it so there's no dead ice. Like have one more solo performance (which frankly I would have welcomed) and then have that one person change and join the others a bit later. It would just take a little tweak in the choreo.
 
Just have to say, how very happy I am for Patrick!! Last year, at this time, things did not look promising for him to find a way to retire on a positive note. I did see him at CSOI and he seemed so relaxed and happy - not the same guy at all as in January at Canadians. Now he gets to show off his beautiful skating and just be appreciated for all he has brought to the sport.
 
I noticed in the last interview with the TCT tour that I saw, they asked who had officially retired. Kaetlyn indicated she was not competing this year and had not made a decision for the future. I love her skating and especially her jumps, but I fear she may be in the same position as Patrick found himself. The younger women have upped the difficulty. I think she was smart to tour now as World Champion.

She knows what she’s doing and I think has awareness of her own capabilities. She will come back if she has the motivation and if she sees opportunity for herself. The field in Canada is weak. She could likely still be Canada’s number one and go back to another Olympics for the team event. But the likelihood is Canada won’t be as competitive in 2022. She was smart to take the year. I’m not ready for her to go, but am making peace with it the longer she’s away from competitive ice.

It is cool that if she has retired then she went out on top. But I hope that this is a welcome break and that she is returning. She is such a complete skater and she is also a woman and not a girl. For me there is a difference between experienced, mature skating and seeing a young girl who can rotate a quad but still has a lot of room for improvement in her component score and in other areas of her technical score. I still would rather have 18 and under and 19 and over categories in ladies skating but that isn't going to happen.

@aml78 - I agree that Canadian women are weak this year. I think we're going to see some young female skaters (junior women) push the "older" Canadian women. I am not convinced that in 4 years time that Canada won't have a competitive lady. I want to see how Daria Carr and Amelia Orzel develop! I'm not counting out Gabby Daleman because I truly believe that she oozes talent when healthy. She has the ability to do quads and triple axels!

Agree about the talent, but am not sure she is reliable in terms of consistency.

And isn't Daleman out for the season? Or will she be back at Nationals?

In the absence of both Daleman and Osmond, the ladies comp at Nationals could be interesting (or not). I never expect much from our ladies, even though Rochette, Daleman and Osmond have proven me wrong.
