Oh yes. I wonder if it will pay off also for S/B?

Canadian Nationals should be very interested indeed. W/P and G/P mean business and I have to say, liking both tangos, I would still give the edge to G/P. Their RD is just so intricate and I love the constant changes in rhythm. They show a lot of restraint and release, just what I like in Tango and what I haven't found so far in any other RD we've seen especially the US youngsters P/C and P/P who are way too frantic. Chill out guys it's not a speed race ! The age and maturity difference really shows with a dance like Tango.

^ agree. G and P get crapped on a lot on this forum but I think they are fantastic and often under marked. This outing wasn't perfect' their twizzles will need to be closer together and it needs a little more confidence, attack and expression, but their speed, ease, glide, nuance and intricacy is incredible at this early stage. I think they will and should give W and P a run for the national title.

If Charlie White had the edges of an angel

Just kidding I love Charlie White

Time, give them time. Ice dance is going to be so rich in the USA, especially if Avonley and partner continue to thrive, my word.

I personnally didn't find S/B's Tango FD really note worthy so... I don't know how that could help them with the RD except, NOT do the same thing!

I don't know. I think it can help. Sinitsina & Katsalapov's last tango was not at all noteworthy, and I quite like their one from this year.

OK, am I really the only person who find's Gilles & Poirier's squatting twizzles rather humorous? Come on. Be honest.

I loved it, even though I tend to find unnecessarily difficult/extra features to be silly in a practical sense.

Purely from a political standpoint, I’ll be interested to see if Piper/Paul can get any mileage out of being the ones carrying the flag for Canada during the Grand Prix while Kaitlyn/Andrew are off touring. It’s entirely conceivable that they’ll be the only Canadians at the Grand Prix Final on the senior level in any discipline (with Marjorie/Zach obviously there among the juniors).

Unpopular opinion: Grishuk/Platov's Libertango was way too frantic and one-note. I much preferred Gilles/Poirier's tango FD that did have the hold then release moments you referred to.

From just looking at the FD protocol, I assumed judge #2 was Sharon Rodgers based on the top 3 PCS, and I was right.

G&P have a nice set of programs this year, imo.

Pardon my ignorance, who is Sharon Rodgers?

American ice dance judge who is notorious for her ridicules and bias judging. Basically, at any point at any competition, you can open a protocol and guess which judge is her with 99% accuracy and no previous knowledge.

88.31 for P&C in the RD! Nobody else has broken 80 yet this season. Any video of this? It's almost a perfect score!

That is one beautiful FD from G/P. Oh my they are the Canadian number one's no doubt. They have moved the bar UP, far UP!! Sorry to their fans while W/P have a wonderful RD, their FD pales in comparison to this masterpiece from G/P. Poirier has become sooo goood. Wowza!!

Figures. #smh.

If Skate Canada have any sense, Gilles and Poitier should be their number one team this season based on the set of programmes. Their free dance was stunning live. Don’t think I have ever been as moved by a team from North America like I was tonight.

Skate Canada made G/P their #2 team at nationals...as #1 Have retired ...that makes them #1 in Skate Canada wheelhouse.

That's a gorgeous FD from Piper & Paul. I can see them making major moves with this, so long as this FD looks as good or better at the end of the season. I find that Piper & Paul's programs some times don't age well throughout the season. However, I don't think that's the case here as this one seems to more about the actual dance. Thank goodness Carol Lane is out there providing another voice in ice dance.

Well I think Weaver/Poje's disastrous short dance - they were 4th - also played a role.
It was not disastrous....They had one lrg.mistake which they were deducted/lost 7 pts but the rest of it was brilliant but they were given very low PCS...too low to recover in the free.

Their PCS scores were the second highest and were in line with what they deserved given how they skated. They finished 3rd because they make a huge technical mistake and wiped out one of only five technical elements in the short program.
