From Russia with Love [#30]: If There Are Test Skate Videos, It Must Be Fall 2018

May be the lack of stamina but I ask myself why she lacks stamina now while when she was with Tutberidze, she didn't lack it.
She had to survive in a rink of wonderkids. Sometimes pressure helps. She looks rather flat to me. It makes you marvel at what Costner does. Sometimes different strokes just works for different folks.

The free program is just bad conception. She wanted mature, got boring instead. Yuna Kim essentially lost OGM because of another bad, boring tango program choreographed by David Wilson. There is still time to scratch the program altogether. She obviously struggles with it and so is the audience. Her jumps look actually quite good for early season post olympics.

Honestly it's not that Eteri can't coach grownups. It's just that any grownup will find it emotionally difficult to be constantly hanging around fearless 13 year olds.

Maybe they find it emotionally difficult but when I saw how for instance Tsurskaya is doing right now, it doesn't seem easy either. Not emotionally, not physically.

I doubt it's about lack of motivation, but rather lack of stamina... she looked exhausted at the end of the free program.

She is just getting back into training after injury and layoff.

She wanted programs more challenging both performance wise and technique. She does not want to look like she did before. It will take a while to feel comfortable in the new style for it to come out properly in competition. For a first attempt it looked great.

Was she injured in the summer?

She was injured during grand prix series....skated in Olympics still hurt and missed worlds...She still had healing to do when she arrived in Toronto around mid June and had been off since Olympics.

I think it’s pretty clear Med is nursing some kind of back injury because she didn’t do a layback spin in either program at ACI.

She’s never been a rubber band super flexible skater but she always had adequate flexibility, so I can only imagine the decision to take the layback spin out must be due to back pain/injury. Hopefully it will get better soon!

Just an FYI: Anna Pogorilaya-Nevskaya will be participating in Russian Cup III event. Her coach Tzareva posted her participation on the event registry site. Panenkova and Fomina are also on this list.

The event is to take place Oct 16-20, 2018. There maybe a video stream (TBD).

POGORILAYA AND PANENKOVA AT THE SAME EVENT? WE ARE BLESSED!

Any news on Mikhailova? I was hoping she'd get a Challenger assignment this autumn.
I have not seen her name in this new season, except a mention she is at Plushenko's Angels rink after she left CSKA in early 2018. Since then she skated at Russian Trophy/Cup final in Feb. 2018, and came in 10th. In May 2018 she said "I am with Pluschenko now, and we're learning difficult jump and combinations".

Here is the blog-article, and some videos in it:

She wasn't Plushenko's student but she trained there. She arrived with her coach Inna Goncharenko ( and Kovtun) but when Goncharenko wanted to rest she remanined without coach. I would say he was coached by Julia Lavrenchuk. But when Lavrenchuk left the academy, she went to Sambo Mikhaylova went with her.

Alina Ustimkina, who just turned 18 this month, seems to be dating Nodari Maisuradze (30) who is helping to coach U/R, according to a recent interview with Rogonov. I'm sure it will work out brilliantly...:slinkaway

I am a bit worried about Maisuradze’s expectations of female pair skater’s weight. If he is co-coaching Ustimkina/Rogonov, he will be strongly motivated to get them results (not only because Alina is his girlfriend, but also to build his reputation as a coach). Alina is quite tall for a pair skater, so I hope they won’t try to compensate for this by making her be as light as possible. I wouldn’t probably worry if it was someone else than Maisuradze, but he does have history of skating partners with eating disorders. One can blame Pavlova for that, but where was he when Pavlova was emotionally abusing his partners? What did he do to protect Iliuschetchkina and Antipova?

ITA...2 partners almost died under his watch while he preened under Pavlova's adoration.....So.....could anybody be so stupid as to not wise up and completely do a self makeover? We shall see I guess. Hopefully he take the approach of Rogonov spending a lot of time in the gym instead of making the girls disappear.

Interesting.... Mikhailova's stats show main coach to be "Evgeniy Plushenko"... ha..
