No. He posted photos on his IG after surgery in April (his right leg was bandaged up) and again in May (right ankle & foot bandaged and he replied "nothing too serious just had to take a few pieces of bone out and shave some stuff down").

Ouch.:(

Excerpt from Camden Pulkinen's Q&A (linked above):
CP: I originally detested West Side Story. Not necessarily because of the fantastic story line or music, but because the music was so overused. One day, I was joking with Tom Dickson about music selections for this year and I teasingly made the comment, “Maybe I should skate to West Side Story.” He turned to me and said “that could work.” I ended up watching the movie again a month later, and I decided that I would skate to it. The famous piece “Maria” hasn’t been used too much in the skating world, so we crafted a mix of selections, being sure not put a unique twist on it. Now, I love my free skate program!

ETA: Pulkinen's scores were 147.80 in FS (highest PCS), 223.95 total.

Dinh Tran finished 10th (109.63 in FS, 169.70 total) - his FS to 3 songs by Woodkid (Golden Age, Volcano & Run Boy Run): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5AIq8cBIyk

Side note: As mentioned in his FSO interview linked above, Alex Johnson also has a free skate to 2 of the same Woodkid songs (The Golden Age, Iron and Run Boy Run).

Here's a Lynn Rutherford Q&A on US figure skating fanzone with Nathan:
http://www.usfigureskatingfanzone.c...n-chen-packs-his-bags-for-new-haven/#comments

He speaks about leaving for Yale after Champs Camp, and hoping to get classes he desires, and that he can't take lab-related science classes because that would eat into his on-ice training time. As a result, he will take courses that won't conflict with his training schedule. Yale's academic calendar luckily fits in with Nathan's competitive assignments this year. I wish Nathan luck, and I hope it all works out for him.

USFS' FanZone website has been re-launched so the original link no longer works - this is the new link to Nathan's article in the News/"Rinkside" section: http://www.usfigureskatingfanzone.c...cks-his-bags-for-new-haven.aspx?path=rinkside

Andrew Torgashev has put himself in a good position to qualify for the JGP Final by winning the gold in Kaunas, Lithuania this past weekend (24 points total from 15 pts in LTU + 9 pts for his 4th place finish in Bratislava) - here's his interview with Ted Barton after his FS this past Saturday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZbzjBoW26g

Competing at the ISU Challenger in Salt Lake City this week...

Link to Vincent Zhou's ISU bio (updated music): http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00034362.htm
SP music: Exogenesis Symphony Part III by Muse
Choreographer is Lori Nichol according to his 5-part IG post back on August 6: https://www.instagram.com/p/BmJJNvUh87w/?hl=en&taken-by=govincentzhou

FS music listed in his ISU bio:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (soundtrack) by Tan Dun
Rising Sun by Kiyoshi Yoshida
Choreographer is Jeff Buttle according to his IG post and photo with him back on June 9: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj0bp3QBBJo/?hl=en&taken-by=govincentzhou

Zhou's Team USA bio lists the same SP music above but his FS music from last season (may not have been updated yet?): http://www.usfigureskatingfanzone.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=51

Link to Jimmy Ma's ISU bio (some updates made but no music info listed yet): http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00034363.htm
Ma's Team USA bio: http://www.usfigureskatingfanzone.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=96
SP Music: "Mi Gente" by J Balvin and Beyoncé
FS Music: "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor" by Sergei Rachmaninoff
Choreographers: Nikolai Morozov, Josh Farris
Jimmy skated his new SP (listed above and choreographed by Morozov) and the FS program that Farris had choreographed at the Philadelphia Summer International in early August. The Rachmaninoff program was his 2017-18 FS program that he also skated at the 2018 Broadmoor Open back in June (he worked with Farris on the new FS in Colorado Springs in July, IIRC). We'll find out for certain which FS he is using in SLC.

If the USIC is any indication, it seems like the new UR rule is really hurting Vincent more than his back issues. It’s good to hear he was smart about waiting until his back was better to jump again. Maybe if he can get back to full jumping shape the URs will go away? But then again he had a lot of obvious URs that were both called and uncalled before the back issues as well, so who knows...

He scored 9.53 points in total for the two ur quad attempts + 3.60 for the ur 3A in the FS. So a lot of points left on the table, and there was an ur 3S in the 3-jump combo.

Jimmy Ma article (and embedded video) before he won his first ISU Challenger medal -- bronze -- in Salt Lake City on Friday night: https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/...oaching-the-season-with-amamba-mentality.aspx
He skated his FS in SLC to Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor (minus 30 seconds from last season's program).

The music listed in Vincent Zhou's ISU bio -- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (soundtrack) by Tan Dun / Rising Sun by Kiyoshi Yoshida -- is his new FS, choreographed by Jeff Buttle, that he skated in SLC. He won the FS and finished 4th overall.

If it was a skater who wasn't renowned for it, I'd agree with this as a potential outcome. But Zhou is a chronic under-rotator and has been since before his back injury. When you get called for four in an FS at US Nationals you know it's bad.

Which is a shame, because I think that FS is absolutely great for him.

Pleased for Jimmy that he had a solid FS, but a little sad that he appears to have ditched the program Josh made for him, which I liked very much from the videos from Philly.

And here I thought it was the US International Classic, with an international technical panel.

The URs were plainly visible in real-time - even I called them in the PBP. As to whether Zhou will fix his jump issues, time will tell.

Zhou had 3 quads called < in his 2018 Nationals FS (flip, Salchow, 2nd Lutz) and his 4T (fal)l was downgraded... this what misskarne was referring to.

Jonathan Yang will make his JGP debut in Ostrava next week (going with Camden Pulkinen) as listed on USFS' Assignments page. Yang was 8th in Novice at Nationals and hasn't had a really high total score this summer that I know of, so he must have met other criteria. ETA: He turned 17 in June and has a K-Pop SP choreographed by Molly Oberstar. His FS is to "And We Danced" by Macklemore.

Tim Dolensky didn't have a great jumping day in his FS at Lombardia Trophy earlier today (finished 6th overall) but I really enjoyed watching his skating/movement/choreography and think it's the best I've seen him perform the program this season. He landed a nice 3A in his SP, but not today. This was his first comp. with a new coach, Daniil Barantsev (who choreographed his SP), and I hope Tim can continue making progress at his next competition, Nebelhorn Trophy (he was added recently).

It's really too early to tell. Vincent looked off all during the competition and practices. He appearance is different as well - fuller through the face and chest. It's a big enough difference that we had a bit of a hard time recognizing him in at warm-ups and such. I don't know if this change has happened because of the injury and lack of training time or because he is maturing into his body - probably a bit of both. His skating is different - I think somewhat because of the appearance. He is less angular and has better flow and expression artistically and I enjoy watching him more in that way. On the other hand, none of the jumps were really there this week and nothing looked easy. Only time will tell if the rule change or his own challenges will hurt or help him.

I thought his free skate was OK, but it was certainly "beginning of the season" stuff - injury or no injury, rule change or no rule change.

So he wasn't chosen for nationals placement or score, a high summer score, or youthful potential. Yeah, can't say I agree with that selection.

Looks like there will be one more JGP spot available for the substitutes since Liu is likely not keeping his (provisional) second assignment.

Max Naumov, maybe? Or Eric Sjoberg? We'll see.

Peter had a rough skate today but I'm glad to see him on the JGP after a rough season last year. I hope he can put out good skates at Easterns and Nats.

Maybe he learnt a 3A over the summer whereas other contenders don't have one? I believe Sylvia mentioned upthread that everyone selected so far has a 3A.

Looks like there are about 5 skaters with over 150 in the summer still with no assignment.
Joonsoo Kim, Sjoberg, Ferrante, Shapiro and Lucas Altieri.
Shapiro has similar summer scores but no placement in 2018 national. Ferrante has one good summer competition and not so great national placement. Sjoberg and Kim had 2017 national placement but not 2018, and with their summer scores they normally would have been picked. Perhaps they have not met some criteria.
I do wonder about Altieri not getting picked, but one good summer result could be a result of a generous caller, so...

I think the USFS requirement for men on the JGP is 170.
Thanks for the info. Going by summer results, I am not sure if they have anyone else to send if they don't lower the 170 though. THe only one with no assignment with 170 is Kim and I suspect he didn't meet some criteria.

I do wonder if sectionals factors in also- the only novice men who outscored Yang there are Hsieh, Lake, and Endo. Hsieh already got Asian Open but only scored 138 there. Endo hasn't competed all summer, and Lake hasn't topped 140 yet. Yang got 150 and I do wonder maybe higher at a comp whose results have not been reported yet.
