The Dance Hall 6: We're All Off Our Rockers 2018-2019

It's possible it could be a Moore-Towers & Moscovitch type of situation in which Kana decided she needed to repartner now in order to continue her career in the long run. (It has always seemed likely that she would need to do so at some point).

She's very good. I do think a unique enough performer to be able to find a quality partner, and that's not something I think too often when it comes to female ice dancers after a split. But finding someone with both the citizenship to skate for Japan at the Olympic level and the skating chops to be competitive for the international top ten . . .

The first rule of how to climb the ranks in Ice Dance:

Stay together.

I do wonder if it was less of a break between them and more the Japanese Fed’s doing. Maybe they have someone else in mind for her.

That would be shooting themselves in the foot. No Japanese team has ever medaled at 4CCs before, and I don't know of any that have ever gotten this close to the top ten. With Cappellini & Lanotte possibly retiring, M&R were on the cusp. It wasn't going to be easy. (Rostelecom is never easy). But Worlds is in Japan.

I think Kana is really special and was looking forward to her possibly developing into a World Champion...going through a partner search at this stage of her career is concerning.

i doubt they could get anyone Japanese citizenship in time for the next Olympics. Unless there is someone already. It just seems so out of the blue

I don’t know why Russian fed would dump z/g when they almost beat s/b at worlds. What’s the downside in supporting z/g and making them number one? S/b have a horrible dark cloud with the potential of Bukin being banned possible at any moment and katsalapov is a mess.

Nothing seems to sway Russian experts more easily than a beautiful form or exterior so don't put it past them. Z/G were superior to Sinkats easily with that SD but their FD dance was forgettable and their technique and posturing are sometimes messy. But it made me wonder are K/A so messy? Also, if they had so much talent why did it seem like to me at least, that Zhulin was wasted on them? Did he really care about them? Politics is real in Russian ID.

Bottom line I just hope they bring it this season and make every performance count. If Krylova and Volkov prove to be good at polishing technique, I would even suggest they jump ship.

They are totally obsessed with things ijs cares nothing about! The facts are judges are kind of subservient to the technical panel so all work must be done to make tech panel give all level 4s and then when you know your team has all level 4 you work on things like exterior and style

I hope krylova and volkov can be total revolutionaries. Their boss is apparently Tchaikovskaya and that’s scary but maybe it will work!!

Chock & Bates going to Montreal.
Scali moved to Chicago.
Hawayek & Baker going to Montreal.
Popova & Mozgov moved to Krylova.
Nazarova & Nikitin moved to Ukraine. Bourzat is working with them.
Bourzat is reportedly working in France. (Not new, but I forgot to add it to the list before).
Greg Zuerlein moved to Wheaton.
Komatsubara & Koleto moved to Montreal. (Also reportedly going to work with Rie Arakawa in Japan this fall).
Maxim Stavisky is working with Krylova & Volkov.
Mueller & Dieck going to Gorshkov (Sounds like for their part-time training base outside of Germany)
Plutowska & Flemin moved to Montreal.

Other News:
Carreira & Ponomarenko are moving up to seniors.
Lajoie & Lagha are staying in juniors, at least for the beginning of the season.

Note:
-I’ve added Cesanek & Yehorov to the new teams list because as far as I and a couple other posters can tell, he is the same person as Yegorov who skated with Giglava on the JGP last season. If so, he is still listed on IPS, but hasn’t updated his bio since February. And in any case, C&Y are a new team, have competed three times this season, and have defeated at least one junior team that will be on the JGP so it’s really just nitpicking about whether they meet my at-least-JGP-level criteria for adding to this list anyway.

-I feel like I may have seen a name for a new partner with Mathieu Couyras and failed to record it. Anyone?

Damn it. They looked nice I thought. I wonder if she's really going to team up with Pavel now.

Seriously? I thought she looked rather wobbly with her new partner and they weren't even doing the Romantic Tango. How is she going to cope with a partner who is at least two heads and shoulders above her?

Anybody who can tell me that the Russian Federation is serious about ice dance is seriously delusional.

EDIT: She seems to be a lovely, ambitious and determined girl but quite frankly she is punching way outside her weight class. But hey she's slender right? LOL.

A few head-to-head dance results worth watching out for this weekend, I think:

The battle for Canada's third spot at Worlds is scheduled to start today. Fournier-Beaudry & Sorenson vs. Soucisse & Firus at the Quebec Summer Event.

Mueller & Dieck and Koch & Nuchtern from Germany debuting at NRW Trophy. Both gunning for the one open German spot at Worlds and Europeans.

Italy finally has three spots at Worlds, which means at least one and quite likely two new Italian teams will make the squad. The most likely teams, Tessari & Fioretti and Moscheni & Fabbri, both debut today at NRW Trophy.

Enjoy!

^^ lol yes seriously. They looked good to me just not good music choices or choreography. But with teams breaking up left and right, I knew it was only a 50 50 shot they'd last.
Btw, I'm really glad Bobrova/Soloviev are staying in but wondering why they're skipping the grand prix?

But Dobre, how could you do this to a poor girl? We need workings links, friend. If you have it that is. :)

Hmm. This from the poster who constantly ripped apart my favorite young Russian dance team, which now no longer exists? How many of my favorite teams this season are you prepared to barter immunity for in exchange for the links;)?

I don't know that NRW Trophy is being streamed.

Dobre, don't worry too much, this year I am going to be on my best behaviour :)

Thank you.

As far as I've read on FSU . . .

Cliff Notes:
The Bobrova & Soloviev Will-They-or-Won't-They-Continue Drama of 2018:

Rumor #1: She will retire & he will continue with another partner. This comes out at some point prior to the Olympics. This rumor may, in fact, have started at some point prior to 2018. People speculate repeatedly throughout the season about who he may partner up with.

Fact (I think, but it's been a while . . .): She does, at some point shortly prior to the Olympics, give an interview saying she is not yet sure whether she will continue and will decide later, but at the moment she is leaning toward being done.

Rumor #2: They are taking a year off.
(Perhaps this rumor is started with whatever unlinked source Emerald66 describes as "something?" They must have given some post Olympic interviews that I did not see or read, but if they had said straight out that they were continuing, I'm pretty sure this would have been all over either the Russia Thread, the B&S Thread, or this thread--which it wasn't).

Fact (I think, but it's based on another poster's comments): He is quoted at some point after the Olympics saying that if he continues, it will be with Bobrova.

General reaction: The taking-a-year-off rumor seems generally widespread & accepted on FSU until . . .

Climactic Event:
Either Ekaterina or Dmitri posts a picture (vid?) of themselves skating the Tango Romantica pattern.

Rumor #3: At which point we all become excited that they will compete this season. Because obviously, why would you be training the Tango Romantica if you are not skating this season?

Rebuttals: Then people rebut this new rumor, say that it is an old photo/footage and a social media ploy. (I'm sorry it's been too long for me to remember if it was a photo or video and I am too lazy to hunt through old threads to look for it).

Fact: They are not signed up for the Grand Prix.

Current Status: In Post-Olympic Dancedom Limbo.

Cliff, Cliff Notes.

Planning for cute baby Bobrova/Deputat is not so easy after some 17 years of hard fought competition.

My gut feels are this: if and when she get's pregnant, she's so outta here to enjoy her life. Soloviev also seems pretty content with his girlfriend.

It's high time for new blood, no offence to their fans. I'm no uber but there were one or two programs I did take a fancy to when I wasn't gut-brutalized by Zhulin's half-baked, vodka-induced nightmarish choreographic disasters. Ehem.

What time will senior dance be competing? Will they be doing both the rhythm dance and the free dance?

After all the fuss at the end of the season about the judges wanting something new (hence the short-lived one season only 'entertainment bonus' idea) I'm very keen to see if any of that has translated into the dance teams making any changes in style for this quad.

What we've seen so far is fairly status quo, but we have only seen lower-ranked teams so far and I doubt they would be keen to rock the boat too much. Not sure if the two Canadian teams will be either. I recall Soucisse and Firus have chosen music for their FD which is remarkably similar to that used by Hubbell/Donohue last season, so I am looking forward to seeing their FD to see what they've done with it.
