#2 KAETLYN OSMOND : CANADA'S SWEETHEART

Sorry, not sorry, but not even close. One a natural beauty and another well, depending on the day, but not always natural. That courtroom thingy was one of my last memories of NB...and still to this day 'hard' to forget.

I thought Nicole Bobek was very pretty - could very well still be! I think you're referring to a mug shot of her. Who looks good in a mug shot? Looking good is really not desired, as is also the case for passport photos.

Also, I think Bobek may have had a drug program when that photo was taken?

She's had a rough year of bad luck this year, but before this year, no, that hasn't been the case.

How I see it. Daleman is a Canadian Wagner, but unlike Wagner, Daleman has a Sasha (Osmond) to deal with, so she doesn’t have the luxury to make mistakes and have some breathing room because there is this other crazy talented countrywoman to constantly worry about. In any other tlme (minus 2009-10) Daleman would have been a godsend for Canada, but we must also keep in mind how far she has come since 2014. It’s a very difficult road to play second fiddle to a Michelle/Mao/whatever relevant example.

I really like both Kaetlyn and Gabby so I say this as a fan of both of them. I don't agree that Gabby will always play second fiddle to Osmond. I see more potential in Gabby to develop the triple axel and quad toe and to land them successfully in competition than Kaetlyn. With that being said, I think Kaetlyn has the edge (definitely) when it comes to basic skating skills and she can deliver a program better than Daleman can at the present time.

I continue to LOVE LOVE LOVE the "Lost" program. Gorgeous. Not digging this new program from Shae-Lynn to "Too Darn Hot" though...not helping that I can't stand that song, but it just doesn't seem her style. I'll cut her some slack given that it was only choreographed 2 or 3 days before this show, but was hoping for something more fun than this. Hopefully with time and a real costume ( :p ) it will grow on me.

Why is Wikipedia listing Kaetlyn as retired? She has been open about competing next season. Did something change?

I don’t see that on her wiki page. According to wiki she is in a relationship with Trent Michaud. I didn’t know that.

Yup. Looks like someone updated it. Thank goodness!!

And yes. If you follow them on Instagram they posted together quite frequently. She confirmed they are dating. I think it’s since some point in the middle of 2017.

I never saw it either but did see the reference to Trent. I cannot imagine that she would hang up her skates given Kaetlyn's successes, and now with Trent moving up into seniors ranks also.

KO is making bank, has a world title, one of each Olympic medal. I think of her like Duhamel and Radford, having achieved enough before retirement to stop early and be 100% satisfied with the resume.

But instead the choice is to continue...while you're still healthy and improving, with no pressure to achieve more than you already have. She's got to be living the dream.

Let's see where the relationship goes with Trennt. They live really far apart. Another year of this could cause one of them to move if the relationship progresses. Or quit. Probably move.

Fun times scenario planning what could happen there aha.

Is it clear that Kaetlyn is artistically below Daleman? I think a lot of people would argue otherwise. As for her jumps, Daleman has so much power so she'd be one of the top in terms of height and distance, but they can look a bit wild some times. I find Daleman's jumps to be incredible myself. However, compared to most skaters who are not Daleman, Osmond is more than just a "good" jumper in comparison. I think Osmond's jumps are some of the best if we look at the field as a whole, especially compared to some of the whippy and labored jumps that being taught now.

Kaetlyn is a good jumper but her jumps lack the power of Daleman and artistically she is clearly below Daleman.

hmmmm I think I would disagree. I actually think Osmond has the most powerful jumps of any woman in the world atm.

Gabby may be the second most powerful after that.

Gabby gets good coverage and distance in her 3 toe/3 toe, But when it comes to overall power I think its Osmond, and no contest.

I think she is artistically above Daleman at this point simply because she is more developed artistically. But I think/hope that Daleman will catch up. I was really disappointed when she chose a tinkly music version of Gladiator and never explored the potential of the program - then just abandoned it. There were at least a few female Gladiators, and Daleman could have done them justice because she has a powerful, aggressive style.

I think they are both powerful jumpers, but Gabby has a more athletic style. I love it, and wish she would explore how to maximize it. But unfortunately power and athleticism are not as valued among female skaters as male skaters.

Gabby has improved a lot from the jerky style of her younger years and has tremendous power at times without the necessary control.
Kaetlyn has high level traditional basics, beautiful flow and glide and a lovely running edge. If she maintains her consistency she could easily benefit from the higher GOE for her jumps. She has matured into a stunning skater.

Nice video of Kaetlyn jumping . . . a lot of jumps. (It's too early in the morning for me to even try to figure out what they all are. )[https://www.instagram.com/p/BmBq_20HBw6/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=2m87qy01083d
So good to see her looking so strong, healthy and relaxed. Makes my heart very happy. :) I am guessing that what we're seeing here is the new planned 3 jump sequence, 3loop-2T-2loop, then the back up sequence, 2A-2T-2loop. It's amazing how huge and consistent that 3loop has become over the last couple of years.

Aside from her 3T-3T combination (which is totally :kickass:), Gabby's jumps tend to be straight up and down. Kaetlyn's jumps may be slightly lower, but have amazing distance across the ice, enabling her to exit with great speed and flow. Both women take incredible speed into their jumps, but I would give a slight edge to Kaetlyn. The sight of her barreling down the ice into her 3F-3T combination, or doing the travelling 3-turns into her 3loop are "holy sh!t" moments for sure.

Artistically, Kaetlyn is definitely superior at this point IMO, perhaps in part because Gabby being younger has not yet had time to develop her artistry as far, but more so because that has not been Gabby's focus to date. In an interview that ran around the Olympics, the two women discussed their differences, and Gabby herself admitted that she prioritized the jumps and athleticism, whereas Kaetlyn was more concerned with the performance.

KO just announced that she is taking the year off. Wonder if this is a prelude to retirement.

Figure skater Kaetlyn Osmond to receive Order of Newfoundland and Labrador: https://www.thechronicleherald.ca/n...ve-order-of-newfoundland-and-labrador-272156/
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Figure skating champion Kaetlyn Osmond will be receiving the highest honour in her home province — the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.
...
Osmond and artist Christopher Pratt were among 10 people named Monday as recipients of the order, granted for "excellence and achievement" to former and current residents of the province.
They will be inducted at a Jan. 29 ceremony.
Lt.-Gov. Judy Foote said in a statement that this year's recipients represent the diversity of the province.
"While they vary in age, gender and the nature of their accomplishments, two things they all have in common are their love for Newfoundland and Labrador and their desire to make the world a better place," Foote wrote.
Osmond was greeted with a parade when she visited Marystown in April, later meeting with young skaters and performing at the packed arena.
Her visit also saw the official re-naming of a highway from Red Harbour, N.L., to Marystown as Osmond Way. A ceremony recognized Osmond and Paralympic silver medallist Liam Hickey, the 19-year-old sledge hockey player from St. John's.
Here's her Bryant Park NYC Tree Lighting Skate-tacular (December 4) performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AipMLcjgx0g

She will perform in the "Art of Ice" shows in Switzerland in February: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/art-on-ice-2019-shows-in-switzerland-feb-7-17.104468/

Kaetlyn posted in her Instastories that she's been working with Lance Vipond again (and helping him with his dance moves!). Odd time of the year for choreography, isn't it? Unless she needs a new show program for some reason.
