The Dance Hall 6: We're All Off Our Rockers 2018-2019

After Michelle Kwan stopped competing, I hadn't always been following skating as closely as I have this Olympic cycle. However, since 2009, I consistently followed the Shibs after seeing and falling in love with their 2009 Junior Worlds FD. I had a suspicion we were in for some big things from them because I just felt it with them and they were obviously so polished and proficient at their young age. Following their career so far has been incredibly rewarding in ways I would have never predicted or suspected, and I am happy I was able to watch them and enjoy that wild ride. I can't wait to see what their year off brings them and whether or not they continue competing, I am grateful for them for bringing me back to figure skating.

Someone did the math on GS, they will be top 24 in WS next season. With Shibs out, P/B split, and H/B guaranteed two GPs due to placing 10th at worlds, C/P have a decent chance of snagging a second spot if they choose to move up.

If they have to rely on a host pick, I guess it depends what happens with the Parsons and M/C. Both are guaranteed one from their WS, and the Parsons are also 22nd on the SB list. If one of them doesn't get two, the USFS might give them the host pick ahead of C/P.

Let's say C/B are healthy and continuing, reputation-wise, that makes them plus H/B plus H/D for 1,2 & 3 for 4CC and Worlds. However, new quad and everything, they'd want M/C and the Parsons to gight it out to see if one can improve and maybe take over H/B (for example of course).
However, if C/B sit the season out too (depending on her health), the spot should go to what USFS consider to be the best of them right ? Because it's an opportunity to fight with the big guns, and more importantly stay there so you'd want who you consider the best because they might be sent to 4CC and Worlds...
But I think we might expect big improvment from H/B, at least I hope so.

As for H/D they'll go till 2022, they said that in an interview right after the FD in Korea.

Yeah, she's got space right now. If the rumour about H/B going to Montreal turns out not to be true, maybe they'll go to her. Right now she only has Muramoto/Reed, Lorenz/Polizoakis, Reed/Ambrulevicius and Lewis/Bye in junior, that I know of.
Is Camerlengo not staying? Why wouldn’t H&B stay with him. If they go to Montreal they will be long down the list of attention. I thought I heard at one point that MF only wanted to take in one team per other countries but maybe that was just their start up model

Montreal had two Spanish teams for the past two seasons and, as far as we've heard, has two Japanese teams now and two British teams.

I don't think we know yet. They might have a hard time getting assignments in senior, so they might want to stay one more year and do 2 JGPS, JGPF, and try to win JWs. They could increase their World Standing, and they're still pretty young (especially Anthony).

Or they could move up. With P/B splitting and the Shibs not competing, it increases their odds of being able to get GP spots. As of now, they aren't guaranteed any, but when 2015-16 is dropped from the WS, they might move into the top 24. They're at 27 right now.
If i was C/P now would be the perfect time to move up. It's the start of the new Olympic cycle and with the Shibs not competing it opens up more room for teams to move up.

Oh yeah...I forgot about that. Still, Western Europe, North America, and Asian representation will set them up well.

Has set them up well. I don't think they are rumored to have added any new countries since the Olympics. Are technically down one, actually.

They do have Markova & Daze, who compete for Bulgaria.
(And the Canadian Armenians, though I'm hazy on whether Armenia is technically considered part of Europe, Asia, or both).

Wasn't Krylova the technical coach? He'd need to partner up with someone else.

Ice Dance historians please help cause its driving me crazy trying to remember who this was...... this goes back to the, I think late 1990s or perhaps early 2000s (actually, I'm really not sure timing). There was a Team who did a program that the theme was like "a Grand Ball" and their costumes and music was like from Beethoven era. Who was this?

It was an OD by Denkova and Staviskiy. I'll see if I can find a link.

ETA: I think this might be the one you're thinking of

This by Strauss? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph1umXgwlog
I have no memory of this program (not a Delobel & Schoenfelder fan), but it is labeled "Memories of a Grand Ball."

The Denkova & Staviski Original Dance, I do have a strong memory of. It is Baroque music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGFbFEDI6DA
One of my favorite Original Dances & one of my favorite Denkova & Staviski programs. Win, win.

The other program that comes to mind is Domnina & Shabalin's Masquerade. Definitely "grand" but 2007 & also, of course, not Beethoven.

Excited for the new season, a new cycle always bring some interesting changes. I most curious about what could be a renaissance of Russian ID with two couples (and maybe three) battling it out: S/B vs Z/G who had a great season with one of the steepest increase in scores. Plus the newly WJC couple looks extremely promising and will be thrown in the mix.
The US scene with the Shibs sitting it out just blew right open with an interesting battle among the newcomers plus H/B who can afford to blow it out. This is their chance to finally shine. I doubt C/P would jump to Senior yet, they probably want that World Title and he's still so young.
I'm also happy for Guignard/Fabbri to finally be Italy number one even if Anna and Luca will be missed. I'm also quite curious to finally see what a LLL FD skated by a top ID team will look like.
Not a fan of Tango on ice, but I'll be happy to put the Latin SDs behind and move on. It will be right up the alley of H/D who no doubt will be melting the ice on more time.
What are you most excited about ?

That baroque OD was one for the ages. And I just rewatched the Seven Deadly Sins FD. Now that was unique and amazing.

To see if S/B can move up to fight for the world podium, the national battles in Russia, USA and Canada for those 4CC and World spots, to have a clear view about who is going to continue or not, the upcoming Juniors turning Seniors, and ... If Guignard/Fabbri can somehow podium at Europeans (Silver would be amazing !) I will be one happy figure skating fan.

Yakushev is up on Ice Partner Search. So that confirms, at least, the Konkina & Yakushev split.

(Would someone team up with Payten Howland, please? She's the right age for these guys who are aging up or close to it. She's not too tall. She's got personality on the ice, and her JGP placements say she's not without skill. I've been waiting . . .)

McNamara & Carpenter.

Yes, I am back to climbing the ranks all over again, and I know exactly how big a miracle it will be if they stay together long enough to be worth the heartache because I have lost a good many favorite young dance teams.

Of course, I am excited about a million more things; but I am truly interested in watching this new generation develop. I love Nazarova & Nikitin as well, and I really like Loboda & Drozd too. Am curious where Abachkina will land.

Will be cheering on Weaver & Poje (if they stay) and Stepanova & Bukin as well in the meantime. And probably anyone who has two great programs. (Please may someone have two great programs).

I will definitely be cheering on WeaPo and Stepanova and Bukin! But, I will also be cheering for Hubbell and Donohue, Hawayek and Baker, Gilles and Poirer, and Firus and Soucisse.

I also cannot wait to see how some of the younger teams develop, i.e. Lajoie and Lagtha (if they skate senior this coming season).

Per a link on GS, the Polishchuk & Vakhnov split is also confirmed. She is looking for a partner.

Agreed. It is somewhat a changing of the guard with P&C being the chased, imo. It will be exciting to see who might shake up the standings. I have so many favorites, but that's a good thing, right? Makes future results easier to bear! Good luck to all!
