From Russia with love [#28]: Autumn to Winter 2017

If I remember well Julia said about herself she is an introverted personality, she doesn't like the people in general. How Yulia wants to work as a coach?
 I think Yulia would be able to separate the two just fine and be a wonderful coach if that is what she wants to do.

As an introvert myself, I totally understand Yulia. Being an introvert doesn't mean she doesn't like people, but rather she draws her energy from solitude. Being with people, particularly crowds can be particularly draining for introverts. However, they are able to relate to people, make friends and be good mentors. I am sure Yulia can be a good coach because if she cares about her students, they and she can be successful.

I was thinking of the parents.

Yeah, I understand where she is coming from. Yulia's candor has always been a breath of fresh air. Hope that she never changes.

It will be so fascinating to watch how Yulia and Elena's coaching approach could rock the dynamics within the hierarchy of some of the most dynastic coaching eras, many of which seem to be approaching their ends. It is an exciting opportunity for a generational turnover perhaps?

Max Miroshkin is looking really good in that photo. Is he still skating or has he finished his career?
Last year he skated in shows with Yugai. They did together one competition, Russian Cup Final in February 2017, but scored 142 and placed nearly at the bottom. They didn’t compete in 2017-18 season. It doesn’t look to me that together they will ever compete again because they had enough time together and if it hasn’t happened till now, I can’t see it happening in the future. But I am curious whether he would find a different partner and return to competition, or whether the shows is what he is interested in. Even though Russia has some decent juniors coming through within a few years, it is still pretty good time to push through if he was landing jumps and had a good partner. In senior pairs it is quite empty field currently.

^^^ On the topic of Yulia's introversion, I totally can relate. I am very passionate about things and want to share them with the world, but I am SO socially awkward and I just don't like being around people. But the few friends I do have? They know me inside out and often I can't shut up to them. :lol:Sometimes it can be hard to pin whether someone is introverted or extroverted, and sometimes you can be one way with friends and another way with strangers.

I agree...Some people who you think are introverted just do not want to deal with the bullsh**it that comes out of a lot of people's mouths. If they are dealing with something they love and know and someone who is also involved they are animated and inspiring. I would say that Yulia knows her sh**it and is very versatile as far as being well rounded. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Especially if they agree to ban tights half over skates.

That's nice of him, but it makes me sorry about all of them turning professional.
They are not. Auerbuch says "I am trying to show them support and giving a segment in my show from Feb 23 (start date) up to the start of FS Worlds 2018."
He is trying to keep them busy and give an opportunity to earn money and perform before they can compete again.

If somebody was waiting for any news about Stepanova and Bukin, there is one little new: Averbukh says, that in the nearest future they are going to skate with his team. He decided to invite them now.
And Elena Radionova as well.

Does it necessarily mean they are turning pro? I don't think so. I can see Radionova being attracted to it; she is no longer competitive in the deep Russian ladies field, but S&B have a good future ahead, in eligible skating. They will go to worlds in 2018 and we will see what future brings.

I think that's very kind of Ilia. Skaters need to make a bit of money and stay in touch with other skaters - old and new. Radionova may not be coming back to competition the way the Russian field looks now and a chance to keep door open to the professional world can only do her good.

It was. He could also start working with them on programs for next season, if they decide to continue. That way they would be slightly ahead of the others and could afford a nice break away while the others skaters are finishing the season... And if they decide not to continue, the programs could be used as exhibition programs anyway.

He could, but Stepanova/Bukin still have to compete with the current programmes in Milano. They are still Russia n.2
Radionova is in Buyanova's group, AFAIK she usually works with Tchernyshev, rather than Averbukh. Also there is a question whether Averbukh will be an `exclusive' choreographer for Medvedeva only

The less Averbukh choreo out there the better. I just can't stand his programs anymore. So much cringe.
Yup. I'm nodding my head off here.
In German we have a word for the feeling he arouses in me, "Fremdscham" (= feeling embarassed for someone/something else).
In Finnish: 'myötähäpeä'. (I think the German equivalent might be a bit easier for English-speaking folks, though) :p

They both are difficult for me. LOL.

German is slightly easier (less difficult). I have no clue about Finnish pronunciation. :)

I think Radionova will be back to competition. She just won't make the world team. Leonova is still competing, so why not Elena?
