The Skating Lesson

With apologies to Christina "Panty Drop for Korea Event Gold!!!" Aguilera:

"Crying in a Bathroom" (to the tune of "Genie in a Bottle")

I feel like I’ve been brutalized
By a figure skater’s vicious thighs
Only my best fans can console me
I travelled to France
To do our TSL show
But not get dissed by some old skating coach ho

Davey, Davey, Davey (Davey Davey Davey)

Ooohhh, I’m feeling so alone
Ooohhh, where is Mr. Rent to Own

Kori Ade was mean to me
She’s an awful lying cheat
I am crying in a bathroom
But I still have time to tweet

If Rohene won’t stop his shade
I will call him an asshole
He gotta send 300 disses
That’ll take a big toll

(I am crying in a bathroom baby
Gotta spread it on twitter honey
I am crying in a bathroom baby
Come come, come and stroke my ego)

The person standing at the trough near me
Just how dang much can one human pee
I hate this bathroom
Like, so much

Twitter sycophants will turn me on
But tomorrow morning my tweet might be gone
Davey, Davey, Davey (Davey Davey Davey)

Ooohhh, this whole thing is a shitshow
Ooohhh, and don’t forget to watch our 375-minute youtube video

Kori Ade was mean to me
She’s a vicious lying cheat
I am crying in a bathroom
But I still have time to tweet

If Rohene won’t stop his shade
I will call him an asshole
He gotta send 300 disses

[Repeat and fade]
this is awesome

I've heard negative things about Kori from other than TSL, so this actually doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility to me. I've had a bad vibe from her ever since she did the interview on TSL.

She strikes me a BWS. Bitch With a Smile.

Real journalist don't make them a part of the story. Yes, you become friends and as an insider, you walk a fine line of what should be filtered for the public. if you are friends with a coach/skater/judge that is fine, and they may tell you something that wasn't meant to be told. People fight, disagree have falling outs. Dave and company need to decide if they are real journalist or wanna be insiders/gossips.
There are 2 sides to every story. We are hearing Jonathan's. Maybe they broke confidence. Who knows. But if they still want to claim being skating journalist, then they have to take the good with the bad. They need to be able to draw the line when someone tells them something and they put it out there. There will be repercussions.
They have really shot themselves in the foot with the Gracie thing. I know the skaters are upset that Dave (who is supposed to be an insider) put out her families dirty laundry. All to show off they were insiders. If you are going to be that kind of "journalist" then you need to accept the good with the bad. The skaters circled the wagons on them and froze them out.
Coaches are very protective of their skaters and this is an Olympic year. A true insider/friend knows when to release information. Everything is carefully released for their skaters image. There are sponsors, managers and the governing body that have to be informed. By repeating something you were told could cost the skater a sponsor or the coach a contact.
You also have to let the bad roll off of you and not make it about you vs her on twitter. Knowing Kori, she is being momma bear about something if it pertains to one of her skaters. I don't see Phil Hersh pulling the "poor me so and so coach is mad at me."
Then again, these 2 are gossips and not real journalist and kori should have treated them as such from the beginning. Flame me all you want but this is pretty childish. Your fans will back you, but then all you have left is 2nd hand knowledge of things. You lost your contact that you worked to build.

Sorry I thought Gracie’s family problems were out on the internet for all to see?? Or did TSL tell more stuff than what’s been published about her dad (I don’t watch all the TSL vids).

As for Dave and Jonathan, have they ever said they are real journalists? To me they just come across as rabid fans of the sport who happen to do a video blog.

THIS! I doubt it was even close to 300, let alone 10! Maybe Kori alerted someone within PSA or USFS and they added a few things.
When Dave and Jenny started TSL, blogging was fairly new, and the feds were looking how to utilize the new medium. I think they had to take the good with the bad and jenny was/is respected in the skating community. At 1st they had a good following and with Jenny there was some value to it. But since she has left, it's gone downhill and Dave seems to just get more bitter and angrier as it goes along. Jonathan, seems like a nice guy and all, but is clueless to how things work. I bet he figured he could do what he wanted and since he is "media", they would put up with it. i'm guessing he overstepped the boundaries and got a huge dressing down.
It's the Olympic year and USFSA and the coaches are not going to put up with anything at this point. Depending on the infraction, Kori or Rohene won't be making any statements. But if it's bad enough, and needs addressing, Dave and Jonathan will be dealt with by the upper management with USFS and ISU. If it's at that level, they should be very afraid.
This to me sounds like it was serious and not a friendly, hey you shouldn't be saying things like that. it was at an ISU event and whatever it was, was bad.

You really think the USFSA and ISU have the time or inclination to deal with a couple of skating fans who are doing a gossipy video blog on YouTube? As if!

The ISU is desperate for more fans in Europe and North America. They are probably happy there’s a venue like TSL for the sport.

As for Kori Ade and Rohene Ward, I wonder why they are bothering with TSL. Seems immature and desperate on their part to even engage them. I don’t get it.

Another point: Isn’t Jonathan a professional opera singer? I’ve always been under the impression that in order to make it in professional classical music, you have to have really think skin. Something tells me that doesn’t include crying in a bathroom because someone sent you some mean (or even nasty) messages.

Thick skin in one area of your life, especially regarding your profession, doesn’t always means you have it in every part of your life. He’s probably totally confident with his music, but getting shot down by a couple of diva skating coaches in what is not your natural habitat (so to speak) is another story.

They probably aren't bothering with TSL at all.

I can imagine it being the other way around, with TSL pestering Ade/Ward for comments, or tweeting at them, until one or both responded with a "just stop. we're not going to give you any new information, and this is why, you gossipy psychopath" which in turn fueled TSL melting down their drama queen bathroom crisis.

  I may have lost the plot a little bit reading that! Absolutely brilliant.

Shame that TSL didn't do a bit with Jonathan crying in a toilet stall

They apply for press credentials at competitions and Dave has been on the press calls with skaters before Nationals. I assume they want to be considered journalists if they want to keep those privileges.

Sorry I thought Gracie’s family problems were out on the internet for all to see?? Or did TSL tell more stuff than what’s been published about her dad (I don’t watch all the TSL vids).

The news was originally published in a local Illinois newspaper. Someone decided to post it on GS, it migrated here, and it became a subject of discussion on both boards. After discussion started dying out, TSL - which had more than 20,000 followers - tweeted about it. In other words, they spread the news a lot farther and deeper into the skating community than it might otherwise have spread. If I recall, the rationale was either that it helped explain why she was underperforming or that her fans deserved to know or something like that.

As for Kori Ade and Rohene Ward, I wonder why they are bothering with TSL. Seems immature and desperate on their part to even engage them. I don’t get it.

Since Jonathan never supported his accusations with any evidence, you’re making a lot of assumptions, aren’t you? Kinda of like all the fans who jumped to his defense without actually knowing the facts or hearing the other side of the story.

Yes I suppose but why would Jonathan post that for all to see if there wasn’t at least a grain of truth to it. Unless he completely fabricated the story.

And I thought Jonathan was the sane one! Does anyone really listen to them all the way through? They start talking about one thing and then veer off into something totally irrelevant. It's mostly Dave's doing, of course. I think he has attention deficit disorder. And do they really think people want to listen to them for an hour and a half? They need to exercise some self-discipline--maybe doing some scripting in advance.

@Rafter Attention? To build hype for the next video? Because he blew one sensible message out of proportion? Because he wanted to justify being nasty to the 7k team on TSL?

Who knows, but there's a lot of reasons he could've posted that. As I said above, it's entirely logical that there's a grain of truth to it - that is Kori/Rohene sent him a couple messages asking him to stop doing something (maybe saying insulting things about their skaters, maybe sharing stuff like the Gracie article, maybe gossip mongering, who knows...) and he was entirely offended by their message and posted the tweet. And then when he calmed down, he may have realized the message(s) were totally fine and deleted the tweet? That's my best guess.

In the comments on their last Youtube recap, in response to someone asking what happened, Dave said this:

TheSkatingLesson10 hours ago
A coaching duo was drinking at a bar and passing their phone back and forth sending vicious messages to Jonathan until 4 a.m....and then messaged him this morning after he tweeted about it and acted as though they didn't remember why. Having seen the convo, he was much more gracious than most of us would have been---but that's what makes him Jonathan!

okay, so when will those two confess their love to each other? That story seems more interesting than their stupid nonsense reviews of the competitions.

The question is what that “grain of truth” actually amounted to in this case. Frankly, the original tweet struck me as unprofessional and impulsive at best, and the fact that it was later deleted and no facts were ever provided suggests that there wasn’t much in it.

7K is the training facility where Kori and Rohene are based.

@MamaL I still would've liked to see the receipts.

(Also, why would Kori be drinking until 4AM and getting blackout drunk? She has two young kids and a flight in the morning! And is probably going over sectionals results for her students on her phone. Not to mention all coaches are well aware that the judges/tech panels are likely staying in the same official hotel as they are, so you are all encouraged to be on your best behavior. And the tweet was posted well before 4AM in France... Nothing's adding up about TSL's story...)

You think having young children precludes women from staying up late drinking or partying?! Sorry but that is really naive.

Umm.

So Dave is implying that poor Jonathan was the victim of a flurry of drunken texting by Kori and Rohene?

But Dave seems to have left a few key facts out of his story - like how he could possibly know that Kori and Rohene were drinking in a bar and passing their phone back and forth sending vicious messages to Jonathan until 4 a.m. I mean, were Kori and Rohene telling random people in the bar that’s what they were doing? Were they drunkenly shouting epithets at him for all to hear?

A more logical explanation might be that Dave got the information from Jonathan himself, which implies that Jonathan was in the bar too - and that might explain why he tweeted something in the middle of the night that he obviously regretted enough to delete the next day.

I am glad we saw no proof. Let's say this did happen in some capacity-ie texts/messages were exchanged, which I can believe. Let's say Kori and Rohene did have a few drinks, which I can believe possibly happened as well (it's not like her kids were with her at the bar, I assume lol). There is no need for TSL to show these messages. Obviously, they never should have tweeted it in the first place, but after they did I am glad Jonathan deleted and didn't try to prove his point over and over again. It sounds like (according to TSL) Jonathan and Kori/Rohene did speak later and worked things out, so I am fine with them moving on. I wouldn't go and applaud them for their graciousness or anything, but I am shocked they didn't harp on this for longer. And as someone pointed out, perhaps Jonathan was drinking as well and in the am everyone sobered up and worked it out.

Having seen his tweet, this is fake news. That dramatic cry for pity was mortifying. Since I'm over the age of 12, a couple of strangers sending me mean messages wouldn't send me fleeing into the protective womb of the bathroom wailing "I never want to be involved in this sport again!" And even if it did I sure as heck wouldn't admit it in public.

With this latest episode I've now moved from post-Jenny disappointment to mild annoyance to full mockery and contempt. Weepy opera man and his distressed Q-tip looking cohost are dead to me.

Except Dave still wants to paint Kori & Rohene as the bad guys in all his responses to fan comments. He could say that the issue was resolved, but instead he keeps fanning the flames.

I do agree Dave is fanning the flames, but I am just happy we didn't have to see alleged texts messages all over social media. Like someone said above it all seems like fake news to me. I doubt Kori is sweating this too much.

To that I say "Show the messages or the shut the f*ck up" :P
