Someone tweeted about Nikolaj Pedersen from Denmark looking a bit like Adam, and Adam retweeted to check out his 'mini-me.' I don't think there's a great physical resemblance, so much as the fact Pedersen takes from Adam some costume inspiration and probably role model inspiration too.

There's lots of young junior men coming up, who I find more interesting and creative overall than many of the junior ladies. The junior guys all still have a lot to work on and a way to go. But they're fun to watch. A couple of my faves are Egor Murashov of Russia, and Makar Ignatov of Russia:

Q: What's your diet like?

A: It’s legit just chicken and vegetables. Girl!! I got to stay thin!


Q: Who are your biggest idols in skating or otherwise?

A: I love Michelle Kwan! My idols today and definitely the amazing athletes I train with every day, Ashley Wagner, Mariah Bell, and Nathan Chen


Q: What's a normal workout day for you?

A: I’m sort of crazy so i love working out throughout the day. I have like a medicine ball and an ab roller hiding behind my couch so I can work out at any moment if the feeling strikes me.


Q: What are you an Ashley doing together when you have a night off? Netflix and Chill?

A: Usually we try and do a fun activity. I’m usually so tired from training but we force each other to leave and get outside haha


Q: Can you and Ashley please have your own TV show (post-Olympics, of course)?

Q: Your layback is goals. Do you spin in both directions in practice? Also I’ve always wondered why/how you sort of bend and reach to the ice before entering some of your combo spins? Does that help your balance/centering?

A: I just spin in my own direction during practice but I do a lot of spins. I love spinning more and more as I’ve gotten older... I’ve started a rumore that I’m an amazing spinner so that I can trick everyone into believing it


Q: If you could change any rule under the current judging system, what would you change? Do you think there's anything that's not rewarded enough?

A: I dont think I’d change anything! My strategy at every competition is to get the most amount out of every element I can and, next year, get a plus 5


Q: What's it like being an out figure skater at the moment?

A: Like pretty cool tbh


Q: Since you travel a lot, where is your favorite place to visit (outside of the US) and why? What do you recommend doing/seeing there?

A: I love going to Paris. How can you beat Paris??

A: My favorite places to eat are close to home in Manhattan beach.. Fusion Sushi, Mangiamo, The Strand house.. check them out if you’re ever in the area! Tell them I sent you

A: None I can think of off the top of my head. Now that I’m a little older, I usually just skate to whatever I want. I am liberated.


Q: How much is too much to spend on shoes?

A: Like too much. I’m a shoe obsessed person.


Q: This is your third Olympic cycle. What have you learned over the years about how best to stay sane during an Olympic season?

A: I’ve learned to not take myself so damn seriously. I am mature and have so much experience. I’ve learned to go out in every competition and give everything 100 percent. Third times a charm

Q: Your "Arrival of the Birds" program is one of my absolute favorites of all time and one of the very few that can bring me to tears no matter how many times I watch it. It's the one I show people when I want them to understand just how powerful and moving a figure skating performance can be!
Can you tell us a little bit about the creative process behind it? Thanks a lot

A: Wow you are so sweet. Benji is amazing... we watched videos of bird movements and came up with such a great concept that people really seem to feel it. I’m so lucky to have such a great friend and such a beautiful program!


Q: Besides winning competitions and getting to express yourself so well on the ice, what's been the best part of being involved with figure skating for you?

A: Literally just being on the ice is so freeing. It’s my favorite part!


Q: What are some of your favourite programs (from any discipline!) that you have gotten to see over the years?

A: Omg so hard to answer... Ashley Wagner 2015 Nationals Long, Nathan Chen 2017 Nationals Long, Yuna Kim 2010 Olympics Long, Joannie Rochette 2010 Olympics short, ummmm.... Jeff Buttle 2008 worlds long... the list goes on and on


Q: What's your best workout for gettin those QUADS?

A: Start squatting


Q: How do you feel about the potential changes that the ISU is considering for scoring in upcoming years (decreasing points for jumps and increased emphasis on artistry)?

A: I’m excited. Let’s get real, i’m Not known for my quads baby


Q: Hey Adam! I'm also 27, but I just started learning how to skate this year. How do you get past the fear of falling? I haven't had any major falls yet, but my skating friends' injuries include a sprained wrist, a dislocated knee, and a concussion (this is the first year skating for all of us). I can deal with sprained wrists and stuff, but head injuries are scary.
Do you have any thoughts/recommendations on head protection? Do you ever use head protection?

A: Always be aware of your balance, if you feel like you need to wear protection don't be embarrassed. Better safe than sorry!


Q: When are you getting a real sponsorship with VOSS?

A: I love my friends at Voss.. they cute


Q: When will you be dyeing your hair again?? I need content

A: HAHAHA... It needs a break but maybe I should start buying wigs to help you out

A: Skating with Yuna was amazing... BUT WOW CHRISTINA GAO IS MY SIS

A: More than 10 years but feels like 100

Funny I haven't really watched skating as much so I missed the transformation from "Pillsbury Doughboy" to "Rockin' Ab" Rippon! It seems like only yesterday he was this adorable little "Cherub" w/ a pudgy face! I barely recognize him now!

^^ Adam is all grown up and then some. We all have to grow up sometime and take ownership of who we are and what we want. I love seeing Adam taking charge of who he is and laying it all on the line. Both he and Ashley are great role models for going after your dreams and never giving up.

Filtering out all the noise and snark from measly critics is a necessity in sport and in life. Like Adam said: "If they ain't paying my bills, I pay bitches no mind."

Yes he's posted videos to instagram stories doing 3F-3Lo combinations and he mentioned on the IceTalk episode that it's something he's trying out. At least at the time he still couldn't solo 4Ts because of pain in his picking foot (aka the foot be broke) so it's a different way to get points.

Same with the rippon lutz's, he dislocated he shoulder prior to Finlandia so hopefully once that's healed they'll be back in the program.

Watching vid on YouTube Rippon stayed within himself and I'm proud enough for him that he got through the program unscathed! There were some shaky landings, but he stayed on his feet and I'll probably save the performance when it repeats later! Bravo!

That's why predictions this early in the season are iffy. Lots of things can happen between now and Nationals. Some skaters get stronger and more consistent while other skaters have sub par performances. I am happy for Adam too, but this is just a positive step on the road.
