2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

Cute yes, but again it does nothing for me. She's pretty but this just doesn't move me, perhaps again because I don't see much of her own personality coming through in her competitive skating, so this style of exhibition skating still leaves me detached. I don't know who she is as a skater or a person.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJsqHuM7hvA Another exhibition with more props. It seems indeed that Med does love to emote and to act. She should have gone into theater and film or ballet. Again, she's pretty but nothing she's doing here makes me feel that she's a complete skater. She tries hard, but I don't see anything truly coming together in a holistic way with this humorous sketch or with anything she's done competitively, although AK is a step in a good direction.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMR4mshpy98 Vogue another prop for her intro; she's definitely into miming and theater. And yes this performance concept is a bit more engaging to watch. The style and subject matter combined with the music bring me closer to enjoying what she's doing here. But I still see her being over-rewarded and over-credited for her somewhat choppy style of skating, which is maybe more pronounced here because of the vogueing theme. She still seems like a little girl trying to skate like a woman. I'm not that interested because she doesn't really draw me in. Pretty face, rotational skills and OTT drama do not tell me anything authentic about her, except her ambition to win.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8od6x4NRsc Stayin' Alive Okay, finally something Med gets more into with a bit of sass and personality. This routine is more cohesive in the way it's performed, and the hat is a fun prop that goes well with the actual skating. It's a nice costume, and probably the music helps. I wonder if Med saw the movie. Surely Eteri has seen it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnSlARn8Gs8 Rama Lama Tore My Heart Med looks like the Bride of Frankenstein; this works very well and she gets into it. She does love to act. The veil keeps wrapping around her face distracting her, but it's a more cohesive performance and concept. She's very talented, but her overall skating has never quite drawn me fully in. I see potential for her to become a true artist if she was actually allowed the time to fully develop. But there isn't any time except to rush rush full speed ahead before being overtaken by hungry ever younger Russian phenoms.

Despite her postural and technique issues, I feel more from Elena Radionova, and despite her presentation weaknesses, I also feel more from Liza Tukytamasheva. When Pogo is in the zone and with her postural and skating skills improvements, I feel more from her too. Of course, they are all more mature than Medvedeva.

Sotskova only sort of counts. She's using music from Swan Lake, but she's not playing a swan, she's doing the waltz IIRC.

Yeah I know they're not trying to explicitly portray a swan but asking me to divorce that music from Swan Lake is not gonna happen. It's all from the same source.

Both of you are obviously among those people who don't watch exhibitions/gala shows. Otherwise you would have noticed that Medvedeva has shown some versatility and range, and also some youthful energy + even some sass in her exhibition programs. It's still acting, but it's of different "genres". I don't have time to look for videos now, but you can search for yourselves. Look for her 'Bang Bang'/Corpse Bride/zombie, Sailor Moon and Vogue programs + others.

True that. In 35 yrs I have never been one much for exhibitions and shows.

As far as competitons go would just love for her to start that point where she shows range. Michelle did it. Irina did it. Angela did it. Sarah did it. Shizuka did it. Mao did it. Most of the top elite.

I always know what to expect from her and whats coming up as the competition progresses. Been starting to lose a bit of interest in her programs because Im never given any surprises on any level.

I have seen all of these - which is why I want to see more from her in competition. She can obviously do it, so why not change it up in the competition programs instead of doing the same style of music over and over with the same expression?

Alina, Osmond, Anna. Who else?

They are all on the list if you follow the link. Maria Sotskova is the other top Russian lady. She is not playing a swan, but her short is from Swan Lake. Yu & Zhang are also using it so there will be plenty of visibility. So Youn Park has a chance of qualifying for the Olympic ladies competition as well.

Anna needs to do a GOT program dressed as the Mother of Dragons highlighting her rise from shy abused girl to conqueror who destroys anyone that's in her way to the iron throne. That girl would bring the drama like no one can talk about an Olympic program for the ages. :drama:
I have been saying exactly this for, like, two seasons now!!! :D

Awesome! I like what she did, but I think there's potential for an even better GoT program. I wonder why it hasn't been done. Maybe someday.

Brezina skated to Game of Thrones. If people don't remember it, that may be one of the reasons it isn't used more often. Polina's program--which she used last season--is quite different and quite nice.

I see your flames and raise you one classy Shibs' fan response. (Insert "sea of calm" icon here).

Hey, I think the Shibs are great people off the ice, and she consistently is one of the best dressed/coiffed/made up ice dancers. Their skating I don't care for which I think I am perfectly entitled to do so :P
