Canadian Ice Dance 2016-17 season news & updates

Well this would be a shock if it was true.

Doesn't shock me at all. She is so much stronger than him and I don't see anything notable in his ability or potential to make those crushing results worth waiting for him to improve. I also think for all the "creativity" that coaching team gives G/P that they got very generic programs so they didn't even have cool programs to offer.

I hope she looks for a another partner and changes coaches..She is so good.

I say a shock because you wouldn't normally end a partnership mid season. You'd wait til after nationals in January.

I do not expect you will see them at challenge and they did not compete at sections. Although they were not required to. The other team assigned senior B's Carolane Soucisse and Shane Firus did compete at sectionals in Quebec.

To be fair, Piper and Paul have a hand in the choreography.

This sport is tough, and finding the right partner is tough. The ones that do are very lucky. It also takes longer to climb the laddder in dance. The top three canadians are obvious and here to stay for awhile. I like the new team of Soucisse and Firus a very smooth, talented team for 5 months together. I hope they continue there growth they are good to watch.

Updating Sylvia's list from earlier in this thread with the announcements that have come out since then. My updated "split" status additions to Sylvia's list are in purple so feel free to scan them and correct if they are inaccurate.

Senior Dance
Kaitlyn Weaver / Andrew Poje
Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier
Elisabeth Paradis / François-Xavier Ouellette - SPLIT
Alexandra Paul / Mitchell Islam
Nicole Orford / Asher Hill - SPLIT
Andréanne Poulin / Marc-André Servant - SPLIT
Brianna Delmaestro / Timothy Lum - SPLIT (she is on IPS)
Carolane Soucisse / Simon Tanguay - SPLIT (she reteamed with Firus)
Catherine Daigle-Roy / Dominic Barthe - SPLIT? (He is the one who was skating with Takai, correct? But I believe I read on a post somewhere that the new team has split as well).
Lauren Collins / Shane Firus - SPLIT (he reteamed with Soucisse)
Roxette Howe / Jean Luc Jackson - SPLIT (she is on IPS)
Alexa Linden / Addison Voldeng
Jocelyn LeBlanc / Danny Seymour - SPLIT (see quoted post below)
Elysia-Marie Campbell / Philippe Granger

Returning:
Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir
Madeline Edwards / Zhao Kai Pang - SPLIT

So 5 teams left out of last year's 14-team senior field? Plus one new team in Soucisse & Firus and one returning team in Virtue & Moir. One team, Sales & Wamsteeker, has moved up from juniors.

Any other new partnerships?

Vanessa Chartrand and Alexander Seidel competed Senior at Quebec Sectionals: http://www.patinage.qc.ca/doc/resultats/Section_A_2017/res15.pdf

Mira Samoisette (J13 with Alexander Seidel last season) is listed as "MD" with new partner Dominic Barthe (yes, he and Aya Takai competed at least once together this summer before they split). Not sure if this means Samoisette/Barthe will compete at Challenge?

ETA: @Dobre, I also posted back on May 1st about the new Senior team of Sarah Arnold / Thomas Williams. They are on VIDA's updated list of 2016-17 teams: http://www.vancouvericedance.com/skaterslist/

This is probably very old news and I missed it, but why did Paradis/Oullette split? They were a team I thought was going places. Enjoyed them.

Does anyone know how Alex Paul is doing? I read that she had an injury in practise and had to WD from Cup of China.

Sorry to hear about Paul & Islam's withdrawal from Cup of China. Missing NHK really hurt their world standing last year, and after a shortened season then, their world standing heading into next year will really drop without a second GP, a second Challenger event, and likely no post season this year.

How is it convenient to plausibly end your international season after one Challenger & one GP? They are currently ranked 33rd on the Season's Best list. 29th on their Season's World ranking--and by the end of last season, a similar number of points ranked them 48th by the end of the year. When their 2014-2015 points are eliminated at the end of this season, their overall ranking will likely drop them somewhere around Muller & Dieck of Germany, a team they defeated by 9 placements at the U.S. Classic. (Unless P&I can compete at another international event). This sounds pretty crummy to me.

Start orders are up for challenge. Piper and Paul are competing, other notable Soucisse and Firus. Mackenzie Bent and Dimitre are not on the list
