Savchenko/Massot Fan Thread

So is Aliona Savchenko the most dominant skater under IJS? Looking at it she already has all of this under her belt

2 Olympic bronze medals
9 World medals
8 Grand Prix Final medals
8 European medals

All of this has been within the last 10 years (started with the silver at 2006 Euros) also keeping in mind that she didn't even compete during the 2014-15 season.

I can't think of anyone that comes close to this that competed mostly under IJS, the closest would be Szolkowy of course, but outside from that nobody comes to my mind.

Saw them at 2016 worlds and was super impressed! Amazing to start with a bronze medal.

Is Bruno Massot eligible for the 2018 Olympics? Does he need German citizenship?

A quad throw when they've been landing their 3throw on two feet like 99% of the time in competitions? Um... sure, ok. A quad twist is more likely.

She lands it on two feet because she's so high when the 3rd revolution is completed, it's the only way she can slow down her rotation and check the landing without falling. I think it's less likely to happen on a quad, she's got plenty of room for another revolution before needing to check the jump. If you're going to two-foot it might as well be on a quad, innit. :summer:

Their split twist is the best I've ever seen. I could see a level 4 quad twist with +3GOE from them as soon as next year. The way that it floats down and is so controlled throughout is other-worldly. It's the best split twist of all-time IMO.

I'm hoping they're next years European Champions, I predict an amazing next season for them.

I actually cannot believe how incredible their split twist is. And it's normally the element new pairs teams struggle with the most, but they had this unbelievable twist almost on the second day they teamed up.

I hope to see them as the world champions next season. Although I would love Stolbova & Klimov or Sui & Han to win their first world title too so I am torn. Hopefully not the worst case scenario of Duhamel & Radford somehow winning again (gags).

They really look happy skating together during Worlds. Both their programs were so enjoyable to watch and the split twist, just incredible. She flies so high he puts his hands down waiting for her to finally descend again. I also cracked up when she pinched his cheeks at the end of the LP. If they keep up like this, they can achieve great results next year.

John Coughlin made a comment on IN about Bruno throwing her so high and far that it made doing only a triple difficult. I think I got that right - anyone else hear that?
Not figure skating, but I remember when Nastia Liukin outgrew her double layout uneven bars dismount in artistic gymnastics and had to go for a double front tuck/half because she literally could stand the double front tuck because there was so much momentum.

That was also the reason Podkopaeva started doing the double front half on floor - she was always overrotating it.

Maybe if she didn't straddle it so much that it looked like an invitation for men to enter, she would've rotated slower. Super sexy! :saint:
