WHAT A performance!!!! This could be one of my most fav programs EVER!

AND THAT 3 twist???? Thought he was gonna catch her in the parking lot!!!

WHO IS their choreographer? Scimeca and Knierim take note and ditch Marcotte for a while.... That was choreography and a GREAT performance. i could watch this program all day!

Side note that I do not understand... How in the world can they compete for the country of Germany?????? At the Very least it should either be France or Ukraine. Neither one are german or are from there. This is why politics needs to be removed from the sport, and then let them skate. period. With no country attached to the title of the team.

Now that I got that out Im gonna rewatch again :)
 
Such a beautiful program, and such excellent performance. I couldn't believe my eyes watching this Twist, and their throws, just incredible. Yes, I think that Aliona is the best pairs skater in the world, at least she'd be a strong contender for that title if there was one. And Bruno Massot seems to be such a nice, sure-footed and gentle partner for her. They had had a hard time while waiting for his release, but now it's paying off, and that's so wonderful to see.
 
What I found incredible was that they were really there to win it (in their first season against V&T!) and that they were so disappointed with their skate and the scores, which were a massive gift to Aliona. They are really going for this!

Why wouldn't they? After all what they have been through, anything but "going for it" wouldn't really make sense, would it? :confused:

Well, they've only been competing together 5 minutes. I thought they would just be happy to medal at Euros, but they actually thought they could beat V&T and their programs and demeanor afterwards showed it. These two are aiming for Worlds Gold this year. They won't win, but they could medal at Worlds.
 
I'm glad to see so many people liked them this weekend ... I KNEW they were going to be players the first time I saw their debut SP in Talllinn.**

I'm sure Bruno's kicking himself about those 2 lifts today ... but they made a huge statement this weekend. I'm beyond excited, and I can't wait to see them at Worlds!!!

I agree. Volosozhar looks almost better and lovelier than ever this year, and Stolbova has skary skating skills, but Aliona is #1 for me. She is the most badass, :kickass:, pairs girl the world has ever seen IMO!! Of all the pairs girls I love (and there are many ;)), Aliona is my all-time fave (with her polar opposite Gordeeva).

Not really getting the complaints about S/M's PCS. Sure it was high, for a program with 2 fumbled lifts, but let's get real. PCS is not just about the performance you put out that day (right or wrong). It's about reputation too, and it's about what the judges perceive as absolute quality---who are the best skaters in the event, bottom line. S/M were far & away the second-best pair in this event, even with the mistakes; they were amazing. The PCS simply reflect that IMO.

Well until now, a lot of people were saying S/M couldn't medal at Worlds. We now seethey could, theoretically anyway. Maybe we'll yet see they could even win. Who knows? :)

Agreed. And I think this is an excellent example of why I don't think that all component marks should be in the same range. There is no connection between two botched lifts and interpretation, transitions (clearly not since lifts are elements and not transitions) and skating skills (since we all know that they didn't botch the lifts due to a lack of skills). Even the choreography/composition of the program doesn't have anything to do with it. One could argue that they were not well placed and botched because of that but the choreography could still have been beautifully done. The only component those botched lifts are linked to is performance/execution because clearly, those were lacking with two botched lifts. They should be marked down accordingly, all the other components should be as high as the skaters are good. In this case, excellent. And if those four components hadn't been high, I think it would have been a mistake.
 
I think we knew Aliona/ Bruno would be players the first time we saw them practicing their sky high triple twist! The only questions back then were when and where they would be able to compete and which country they would represent. I am glad those are no longer questions. Clearly they have been working hard and their sp looks much improved from their Tallinn debut. As well, their fp also shows they are less tentative and have developed more speed and comfort with each other competitively.

Aliona is amazing and the epitome of desire, creativity, athleticism and panache. Bruno is an able partner and I'm sure he will be continuing to learn and grow as he catches up with Aliona. I wonder how long she will compete post-2018? Well, the point is live in the moment and build up to the important moments. Bruno is still fairly young but he is an able partner and he has already clearly improved with Aliona (it was fantastic to see how quickly they regrouped after the failed lift and went right into those perfect and speedy sbs spins)! Yet, Bruno has more work to do, and that's obvious too.

I really can't say that I like S/M more than S/S and S. I think that's sacrilege to claim S/M are better at this point. They are different and their potential is exciting. The key is mainly that S/M are different because Bruno is a taller partner, so the look is quite different on the ice and their dynamic is completely different. However, Aliona's creative, edgy aesthetic which she developed in concert with Ingo and Robin is ever-present. Aliona is drawing on her wealth of creativity, as well as her wealth of experience honed with Ingo and Robin in equal partnership. I don't feel the need to compare S&S with S&M mainly because there is no comparison when S&M have not yet developed the repertoire, track record and number of championships held by S&S. I don't think there is any question that S/S and S changed the face of pairs figure skating -- they helped make the sport better by their presence in it.

Desire to win OGM still burns in Aliona and so now she is rejuvenated by a new younger partner in Bruno. I am interested to see how their dynamic will be further defined and developed. Aliona is definitely intense and she has a perfectionist quality about her. Bruno was so upset with himself at the end of their fp. But it takes time and every experience is a valuable learning opportunity. I wish them well and I cheer them on, but I will also never forget the highest of highs that S/S and S together were able to reach.

I understand that Aliona has purposefully left those relationships and programs behind, but she perhaps unknowingly still carries with her the majesty of many past moments carved on the ice with Robin and Ingo, as she now forges ahead with her new partner and coaching team in quest for ultimate gold.

For Bruno Massot and his coach since he was a little boy this must be an especialy special moment.
 
I hope they compete until 2022. Even if they have a chance at a medal, and possibly even gold (depending how they develop) in 2018, I think they would need to compete until then for us to see their full potential together.

It also has to mean a lot for his mother and family, and Aliona's fiance Liam who were very involved in their fight for his freedom. As were many other friends, family members and fans. It's a very sweet moment for a lot of people!

I think she has really mellowed since getting away from Ingo. I think the two of them together brought out a toxic side to each others personality, and it is great for her and Bruno they ended up forced away from Ingo. The story about Liam and all the work he did to help is amazing.

Yeah yeah, but getting away from Ingo also means getting away from choreography and good programs
