Yuzuru Hanyu Cheer Thread

I am SO thankful that Yuzuru is putting his health first. I am really missing him at Worlds this week but he must get his injury healed 100% so that he can come back and pursue his goal of 4A. I also believe that Yuzuru & Orser can achieve even greater things in the future by working together. They seem to be the perfect combination for success.

Definitely missing Yuzuru at Worlds this week. The quality drop-off without him, Patrick, and Javier was really noticeable in the men’s SP. Makes me realize all the more how blessed we have been to watch these masters of the ice compete for so many years!!

What even is skating without Yuzu, Patrick, and Javi???

Yuzuru Hanyu will appear in a parade in his honor in his hometown Sendai on April 22, to celebrate his second consecutive Olympic gold at the recent Pyeongchang Winter Games.
According to the Miyagi Prefectural and Sendai Municipal governments, the festivities will kick off at 1:15 p.m. The parade will then proceed along about 1.1 kilometers, lasting around 40 minutes.

[ENGSUB] Yuzuru Hanyu Post-Olympic Press Conference | Japan National Press Club 3.28.2018:
https://youtu.be/bDPJh1-NKTw

peaking of dreams, a take on life elaborated off the reels. From a heart of gratitude, going into his pride as a Japanese. Regarding his next challenges, the Quad Axel and the quintuple jumps, “If Yuzuru Hanyu were to jump, absolutely I would jump as part of my expression. Because that is my style” – an unwavering outlook on competition. His loneliness at the top of the world and its conquest. So much that couldn’t be included here, we implored the secretariat for an early release of the full transcript.

Translation of Yuzuru’s special feature in Fujingaho:
“Not just a few people feel apologetic that he has worked so hard all these years for us as a representative of the affected areas. Especially since even in Sendai, as there are differences in the extent to which one was affected, there are people who feel conflicted as to whether it is ok for them to be included among the victims. Although this is only my own speculation, I think perhaps Hanyu-senshu at the beginning also agonised over this. And maybe he had unpleasant thoughts over this. Even so, he resolved to live as a symbol of the affected areas. And he even let us experience twice the dream called the gold medal. We are really thankful to him, and that is why we want to support him wholeheartedly.”
and
Hanyu-senshu said “When I am happy, many people are happy. Because of my smile, everyone smiles. This is something I strongly felt.” This gold medal touched the hearts of many people, and I thought it was exactly as he said. This memory of SEIMEI, who smiled more than anyone and who seemed so happy, made everyone smile even more.

This article is talking about newspapers & the campaign to get people to continue reading print articles & they gave Hanyu the award for "happy news person" for bringing happiness to many people.
e's it's saying it's an honor to be awarded the "happy news person" prize & he's happy to be able to become someone who gives "power" to others, much like how he was inspired by so many athletes at the Olympics in his childhood.
They also asked Yuzu to share what he thinks is appealing abt newspapers; he says it's great you can learn a wide variety of things, like thru stats/data & diff perspectives which are unique to papers. you can also learn various words & things that are useful in daily life.

Yuzu's grandparents sent a framed photo to a restaurant in Sendai where Yuzu's family had been to. They also wrote a long letter to thank local people cheering Yuzuru:
"The season of cherry blossoms has come to Sendai. We hope all is well with you. Since the Olympic Games, the days passed so quickly that we were late to say thank you. We appreciate your continued warm support for our grandson, Yuzuru. For us, this award (gold medal) was only a miracle because he had been injured just before the game. He himself has also said, but (we also feel) it was nothing but the power of cheering from everyone helped him not to fall in the end (of the program). At that time, even us who were cheering at the venue felt something great power, so it probably reached him more strongly. Hoping for his resurrection, how many people gave him great encouragement at the venue or through TV...we can not thank you enough no matter how much we appreciate it. Thank you very much. Now, quietly looking back, we are most pleased not only to see the consecutive victories, but also Yuzuru said, "This is the start line of my life, and I want to make an effort to be a human being suitable for the gold medalist." As his grandparents, we could not be happier for his words. We can not help hoping for him to live a life humbly and sincerely without forgetting these words. However, he is still 23 years old, still immature. Please watch over us warmly and strictly. We pray for all your health, and this is a quick note to thank you. On a fine day in March." - Translated into English by Yude from Planet Hanyu

No wonder Yuzu has turned out to be such an admirable young man. He obviously comes from a loving, supportive family who have instilled good values in him.

Q: The rule will change starting from next season (towards focusing on the GOEs). Do you wish to create a program that will leave everyone lost for words, or something of that kind?

Yuzu: It’s the same for either the skating or the expression, and especially true for the mood of a program, but after all, this is a sports with different preferences [people may like or dislike]. Therefore, I tell myself that there’s probably no program that can put everyone at a lost for words. That’s why, like what I said earlier, I intend do the things that I myself can enjoy and want to do, and I will be grateful if others watch those things and think that they’re wonderful; this is not an enlightenment or anything, it’s just that I’m now at a point where I can say that ‘I am me’.

The manner in which he did his best to answer all kinds of questions left a deep impression on me. When he is competing, he is exactly the king he is described as, the entire arena was completely enraptured by his performance. When he was performing his FS to the music of SEIMEI, it felt like time stood still. In December 2016 I had the opportunity to photograph Hanyu, and at that time I could feel that he battled with pressure on a daily basis. I personally experienced “Hanyu mania”, the many fans spanning a wide range of ages behind him who travel all over the world to support him, who filled the entire arena. Hanyu was able to overcome even such tremendous pressure, and win on this occasion just like he did then.”

Yuzuru Hanyu said he hopes to take part in the Grand Prix series next season (provided, presumably, that his ankle is fully healed). He hasn’t chosen music for his new programs yet, but wants to choose songs he wants to do rather than focusing on what will win. After the Olympic exhibition, Hanyu took three weeks off of skating but has restarted training. At this point, he’s not practicing Loop, Flip, or Lutz jump at all, due to the stress it puts on his ankle.

I'm glad to hear that Hanyu is back on the ice and taking a careful and sensible approach to building muscle strength while placing priority on the 100% healing of his ankle. I SO hope he can do the Grand Prix next season. It's exciting to hear he will skate to music he personally loves. Just imagine the "heart & emotion" he will put into those programs! :)

Knowing Yuzuru’s taste... he might skate to game soundtracks.

Today ice show, 9000 fans came for Yuzuru: https://twitter.com/sponichiannex/status/984758104339312640?s=21

When the MC asked the audience to congratulate Yuzuru Hanyu and they did, he said: "I always say thank you to everyone at shows, but it makes me very happy to hear you congratulate me like this. Thank you! I am happy I was born into this world."
-
Yuzu did the 'Daily Hanyu Talk Corner'. "I'm really nervous. In this corner, I'll ask questions to people I've always wanted to ask about various things (referring to guest skaters'). Please think of me as someone who's become 'Hanyu the reporter'.'
-
There was a 5 year old kid asking Yuzuru: “what's your treasure?"
Yuzuru: "My pooh tissue case".
-
Hanyu explains the performance of the Pyeongchang Olympic Games. At the time of the SP step sequence: "Since I had been doing image training, I got the music in my head, I heard the cheers by my ears."
-
Javier and Lambiel sent some supportive videos and Yuzuru was nearly crying after watching their messages.
-
Yuzu: "In Ballade no. 1, why did you make such a difficult steps?"
Jeff: "It's the first time I have apprentice who is better than me, so I made it as a challenge for Yuzuru Hanyu.”

"I have not skated at all," said Hanyu, who performed with his childhood idol Evgeni Plushenko and friends like Johnny Weir and Takahito Mura on the night.

"Counting the time I was at the Olympics, I completely shut it down for almost four weeks. My condition is better than it was before the Olympics and I can spin, step without problem or pain. I'm putting in work on the ice as part of the rehab now."

I'm so happy that he wants to compete next season.

I had hoped for just one more year, without Olympic pressure ... it seems my wish may be fulfilled! I hope that, as he gets back into training, Yuzuru will continue to feel motivation and also that his foot will continue to improve.

I think back to some words I wrote in 2015: "I’ve never seen a skater who has won so much, yet is still so hungry for more. It’s as if his Olympic gold never happened ...." It's still true it seems, even after the second Olympic gold. :)
