Yuzuru Hanyu Cheer Thread

I feel very happy for Brian Orser, after the disappointments he suffered at the Olympics and the recent (after 2010) fallout with Yu na. It is nice to see him as a very successful coach, with two top men in the current field as his students.

Three top if you count Nam.

Orser has coached 2 GOATs. What other skating coach can claim that?

Well Orser was very lucky to be able to coach Yuna and Hanyu but still he had to do his job so it's amazing achievement

A fan calculated the maxim scoring potential of Patrick, Javier, and Yuzuru's program with all Level 4/+3 GOE/100 PCS:

Patrick CHAN
SP TES57.60(BV42.90+GOE14.70)+PCS50.00=TSS 107.60
FS TES111.52(BV83.32+GOE28.20)+PCS100.00=TSS 211.52
Total 319.12

Javier FERNANDEZ
SP TES58.15(BV43.45+GOE14.70)+PCS50.00=TSS 108.15
FS TES119.74(BV90.64+GOE29.10)+PCS100.00=TSS 219.74
Total 327.89

Yuzuru HANYU
SP TES63.65(BV48.05+GOE15.60)+PCS50.00=TSS 113.65
FS TES125.79(BV95.79+GOE30.00)+PCS100.00=TSS 225.79
Total 339.44

A chat with Sean Rabbitt before Golden Spin:

http://figureskatersonline.com/news/2015/12/03/a-chat-with-sean-rabbitt-before-golden-spin/

He mentioned his interaction with Yuzuru at Autumn Classic: ‘Put your medal closer to your face for a close-up picture,’ Hanyu said. Imagine, the best skater in the world and me. Even though it was his moment, he did not act above us. He still took the time to help me."

And: "He is a very focused person and we all know when to respect that focus. So in the locker room the first day, when we were putting on our skates, I introduced myself and started a conversation. I think he appreciated that because the rest of the week every time he saw me, he would say hello and even later he said, ‘Goodbye, my friend.’ My point was not to become friends, but just be friendly."

My favorite interview at NHK was the one after gala. During the interview, Yuzuru said thank you a lot to the coaching team at Cricket Club, he said they played an important role in his achievements.

When they showed Yuzuru that they had interviewed Orser: "...this is one of those special moments in skating, I am sure all of us will remember it forever. It will be hard to top this program but... He will just keep getting stronger."

After hearing those words, Yuzu smiled and said:
"My achievement is resulted from the efforts of Orser coach and other coaching teachers in Cricket Club. They were trying hard to make me stronger. The way Brian said just like I made myself strong and only myself can make it successful. Not at all. It's because of them. The credit is for them."

Translated by Echo Cheng from YH facebook group.

Yuzuru is very very grateful for his coaches at CC.

The Guardian has written an article about John Curry and they mentioned Yuzuru: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/dec/04/yuzuru-hanyu-john-curry-figure-skating?CMP=twt_gu

One part:
If you wanted to see a memorial to John Curry, it was provided by Yuzuru Hanyu in Nagoya last weekend. During the NHK Trophy, the penultimate event of the international championship season, the 20-year-old Japanese figure skater became the first man to record over 200 points in the free skate, and the first to top 300 overall. Above and beyond mere marks, however, Hanyu unfurled a long programme that fulfilled all the promises Curry had ever made about the potential of his sport to attain the condition of art.

And the final part:
Hanyu, blessed with boy-band looks, wore an oyster-coloured tunic trimmed with purple and glittering with jewels as he spun like a sycamore seed in a light breeze through the jumps that studded his historic long programme. And nobody, the morning after, was going to confront him with coded questions about masculinity and athleticism. In a darkening world, there at least was a point of light.

I think last year, with all his trials and tribulations, cemented for him how much he needed to be training with his team in T.O. and his results this year show how well he can do when he has the right environment/health. Has he ever shown that much obvious respect to his coach before? He was constantly acknowledging/applauding Brian, and even after the SP at SC he grabbed his hand and bowed when he came off the ice, as if to apologize for his poor performance. I know he's very respectful, more so than even many other Japanese skaters, but this outward showing of it this season was something I hadn't seen before.

Here is another view of the Kiss and Cry, you can see how Yuzuru showed his respect towards Orser: https://twitter.com/W_YZR/status/673046403682205697

Such a great kid! I wonder how Orser felt at that moment when his student showed his gratitude that way.

Meoima, that's not from The Guardian itself but from a blog entry posted by one of the writers. See the link.
Still from a Guardian writer. And I have said the article is mostly about John Curry, they just mentioned Yuzuru somehow.

Since it's 7th December in Japan now, happy birthday Yuzuru! You are 21 now! A big boy already! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Sorry but I don't consider Nam at the top yet. He is not at the level of Yuzuru and Javier

True, but he is definitely a hot future prospect and should be contending for medals by 2015 at the latest. Then again this is a slippery and unpredictable sport so I guess projecting into the future with too much certainty is an area wiser to stay away from.

The moment I saw that long, soft like a butter, spread eagle exit from the quad I was like: Oh he's gonna kill me tonight!:swoon:
I love that despite his score, he still kept his composure and supported Javi by saying "Vamos Javi" in the Kiss and Cry. He has such great sportsmanship.

Bonus: Yuzuru and Javi going to the press conference https://www.instagram.com/p/_II8pNPngg/

I almost feel sorry for the other men. You cant even think of competing vs Hanyu when he skates well now it seems. It is amazing to see the master at work though.

Yuzuru about his own performance: "I'm satisfied with my program today. I was surprised too but I wasn't able to get Level 4 for the step sequence, so I have to practice, I need to practice more. I will just do the... normal. I don't wanna get too excited, too calm, just normal."

And here's some great tweet complimenting his attitude:

Hanyu quieting the crowd before training partner Fernandez takes the ice. Class act and well deserving of that world record SP score.

It's lovely to see how supportive Hanyu is of @javierfernandez, as he re-writes the record books. #GPFBarcelona

Aaaaaw Yuzuru hushed the crowd's applause to his scores because he doesn't want Javi to be nervous. #GPFBarcelona
