Oh, FFS, Ilia! You are better than joining the ranks of the umpteen-bazillion skaters who've done a program to "To Build A Home"!

Oh no, Ilia caught Warhorse Fever! He's the last person I would have expected to skate to To Build a Home.
If I recall, this is a relatively new exhibition for him at least? I don't remember seeing it before, and I've watched a lot of exhibitions this season.

If you’re not watching this gala, you need to find Ilia’s performance later. Good God, if he even put 10% of that quality into his free skates….

He’s absolutely brilliant outside the constraints of the free skate rules.

I've never seen it before--I don't generally watch the exhibitions. I thought the last 30 seconds were beautiful.

Weird question--what does the necklace that Ilia wears symbolize? Egadze also has it, as do several other skaters, all Eastern European. I'm assuming it's something to do with Orthodoxy?

There are some lovely moments in this exh and I think it shows what Ilia could be capable artistically, some actual held out moves and real emotion expressed through movement.

Well, if y'all wanted angst, Ilia brought the angst with To Build a Home. So much angst in fact that, for some reason, I started thinking of that silly SNL skit with the guy banging on the cowbell ..... but, here, it would be: "If you want more angst, I'll give you more angst."

No disrespect intended towards Ilia. He's wonderful and obviously was very emotional at the end.
