Will Virtue and Moir return for the Montreal Worlds?

Scott said the other day that they were taking a year off. Maybe, just maybe, they want to win worlds in Canada. The didn't win either Junior Worlds, 2013 Worlds or the GPF in Quebec. Only Canadian win would then be their Vancouver 2010 Oly win.

I sincerely hope so!

I thought that both Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir made it very clear in their "Thank You Canada" interview that they will not be returning to amateur competition.

However, other interviews they have been less firm about their future plans.

I certainly think that they could definitely compete at another Worlds and continue for one more Olympics! It depends on what their goals and whether they have achieved all of their skating goals.

If 2018 was the competitive end to Virtue and Moir, they will be missed. I love them and I think that they are GOAT.

I am a VM fan but, I do enjoy PC as well.

I doubt it's against the rules. I'm persnickety like that is all.

Do you have the inside track?

No, I definitely do not, although I do have a good friend in London who knows people close to V&M well so could get some inside information as 2020 worlds nears if you would like.

I just think it is plainly obvious on a common sense level. The odds of them returning after 2014 were always decent. I think most skating fans concurred it was roughly 40% for both V&M and D&W, so the odds of 1 of the 2 returning was always likely in fact. It just happened to be V&M. This time is totally different, and I think most would agree for a variety of super obvious reasons, their ever returning to amateur is hugely unlikely this time around.

Never say never. If they were so sure they were not returning they would have retired like Chan and DR.

Montreal worlds could be on the cards. I was hoping to go for their party but cannot make it. Have tickets for their show.

Maybe they will try to become the Sonja Henies of Ice Dance.

Speaking of Henie I dont think people appreciate today what a difference she made to the sport. She was literally its first crossover star, she was such a star she went onto a bigtime Hollywood career. If it wasnt for her skating might never have started the cycle where it became as popular as it is today.

I do wish she were alive today though as all I have read on her as that she had quite a nasty personality and was a gigantic diva. It would be hilarious to see such a bigtime diva like her near the top today, and how it would go over with people.

Trump was under consideration for the biopic, I believe.

My favourite story was once after she skated, Henie was presented with a gigantic bouquet of roses. She gave one of her million dollar smiles, only to go backstage, throw them down and trample them to pieces in a rage while shouting, "Only orchids for Sonja".

Papa Henie was quite the Svengali and mastermind behind her competitive career. I'm not surprised she went as far as she did, and made it in Hollywood.

I have a crazy thought - Do you think that they want to help Team Canada to another gold medal in the team event?

Really?

Laurence Fournier Beaudry & Nikolaj Sørensen

Pairs- they probably will have a pretty good team, but not likely a top team like 2018.

Men- LOL unless something amazing happens before then. Messing will be too old to be a top 10 skater by that point. I dont see many or any up and comers, but a lot can happen in 4 years, but right the likely 2022 outlook is dire here.

Dance- strong whether V&M return or not.

Ladies- Given their ages Osmond and Daleman arent likely to be at the top by then, if they are even around. Will likely be much weaker than 2018 here.

I don’t think so. There is nothing left to win really. Plus I couldn’t take the stress again lol.

Canada will have to rebuild of course. It has been a great time for Canadian skaters obviously. Hopefully Skate Canada gave Mike Slipchuck a huge raise.

I hope not.Won everything probably GOAT.I would like to see new winners and youngsters moving up.S/FIRUS.

I think it is clear that V&M are done with amateur competition. They have two GDMs and a host of other titles and are highly decorated.

The wear and tear on their bodies in preparing for another Olympic cycle would be huge. Also, P/C are being ushered in as the next great thing in ice dance.

V/M should exit the amateur scene gracefully. They are an accomplished pair and having nothing to be ashamed of in moving on to the next stage of their career.

I think V/M would rather play host to Worlds in Montreal than compete there. It'd be nice for them to compete and sure winning isn't everything, but they already lived through a scenario where they lost in front of a home crowd (I mean London, OT was even more of a home crowd than Montreal would be) and I don't think they want to open themselves up to the opportunity of that happening again. I mean I'm sure they'll survive and brush it off, but why go through all of that again just for Worlds in Montreal?
