Who would be the top 3 ladies medalists at the 1984 & 1988 Olympics if the CoP system existed then? No compulsories either.

1984
1. Zayak
2. Chin
3. Witt
The first 2 could go either way but I'd say Zayak because she didn't fall in the long and had harder transitions for her jumps.

1988
1. Ito
2. Manley
3. Witt

Again, top 2 were very close.

No way Zayak wins in 84. She was out of favor of the USFSA at that point. I would say

1984

1. Witt
2. Sumners
3. Chin

Chin maybe 2nd instead of 3rd. Chin wouldnt win, she didnt have the international rep yet to win. Sumners nearly won via winning the LP even with that lame ass chokefest performance she gave, so she is still up there for sure.

1988

1. Manley
2. Witt
3. Ito

I guess Ito 2nd over Witt is possible but I doubt it. Ito does not win, like Chin in 84 she would be held back from winning by the judges for protocal/wait your turn reasons.

Whoops I didnt notice the COP part, wow that changes everything. Maybe your standings are right after all then.

I still dont think Zayak ever wins in 84 even under COP though. Judging is political even under COP. As I mentioned she was out of favor both Nationally and internationally by then. She might have medaled now, but even that is iffy.

Chin might win under COP, but I could see them fudging the scores to have Witt winning. Especialy since they basically landed the same jumps in both programs so it wouldnt even be that hard to do.

Ito is probably impossible to deny gold in 88 under COP. Unless they really hammer her on PCS.

What about some earlier Olympics.

1980 Olympics:

Gold- Biellmann. Her LP destroys Fratianne and all others under COP, doesnt just barely win it by a little bit like under 6.0.

Silver- Fratianne

Bronze- Poetzsch. The technical points from her LP would be enough given Watanabe and Marie Allen both being subpar at this competition. I think Lurz would lose a medal by low GOE and PCS.

1976 Olympics:

Gold- Hamill

Silver- Vodorezova

Bronze- Errath

So basically the COP is as corrupt as the the 6.0 system ... Fair enough.

... A competitive audition.

I think the judges will be successful in making any system corrupt. Someone like Bebe Liang I remember doing some excellent spins in her programs from 2007-2010 which got 0s in GOE across the board. Yoshie Onda did some excellent jumps in the 2006 season which also got 0s in GOE across the board. If you are out of favor, or marking you a certain way fits an agenda, the judges have no problem doing it under any system.

That doesnt mean the scoring system isnt a factor and does not impact/change results. It does. However the biases and political nature of judging does not go away.
