It is pretty clear the gold and silver will go to Virtue & Moir and Papadakis & Cizeron in one order or another. Even if one team has a fall in one program, and a stumble or missed level in another, it is unlikely either would drop to the bronze based on the current scoring gap.

This is a similar situation to Sochi where the real battle is for bronze. Who will take the bronze? Right now it looks to be primarily a 2 way battle between Hubbell & Donohue and the Shibutanis but you probably should not totally discount Chock & Bates, Cappelini & Lanotte, Weaver & Poje. And while I dont think others have any real shot I will still include Bobrova & Soloviev, Gilles & Poirier, Stepanova & Bukin in the poll just in case there are some who even pick one of those.

I went with Hubbell & Donohue who I think will ride the confidence they got from finally breaking through and becoming U.S Champions. They also will clearly have the strongest FD of all the bronze contenders if they stop missing levels like they did the last 2 events which should be an easy problem to fix. The key for them will be the SD where teams like the Shibutanis and even Weaver & Poje (despite the disaester at Canadians) could pull a big lead if they skate well.

No jinx for 1&2 :angryfire:rofl:
I'd say a US team, more likely Shibs or Hubbell/Donohue who manages to win against C/B with mistakes.
I'd like to see how B/S are going to be scored this week at Euros.

While I wish Maia and Alex get an individual medal, I think that B/S will be strongly pushed to the podium. I guess we will get an idea the next week at Europeans.

I chose H and D. Mostly because I prefer them but think Shibs will take it if clean.
Shibs have had issues with the technical panels in the past.
It’s a nail biter for sure.
Can’t see anyone else taking it unless there’s errors.

Bobrova's SD has already taken them out of the running. Their FD doesn't help their campaign either.

what?!, impossible, it is so close to the OG. By the way, who are the alternatives? S/K? he is injured, right?

Nope, they only have two spots in Pyeongchang. That means S/B and Z/G would go to both the Europeans and OGs. I don't know if they would risk an inconsistent, injured and competition unready Katsalapov at the OGs.

Poor Gorshkov sounds so desperate, the depths to which Russian ice dance has fallen, they can only invest in B/S. Whoa.

This is the system for Russians this year! Hearing so close to the games whether or not people can go. They are desperately trying to hang on to bobrova.

It’s so bad and getting worse!

I think the programs are fine, the SD might not be everyone's taste but the FD has potential when clean. But they face competition that is way too tough. Let's see how it goes in Europeans if they go for a push or not.

The SD could work if Bobrova was comfortable with the Latin beat, it looks like work for her. She doesn't cope with flirtatious or sexy very well. It always looks, well let's just say not as intended. It would have been better if they went for campy or humorous in the SD. Dmitry on the other hand really got it down pat at Nationals but Bobrova doesn't match him. As for the FD it's lacking something to make it really stick and make you want to watch it over and over, it doesn't really create a moment as they say. There are other more competitive programs that managed to do that this year, this isn't one of them. It's like they skate together but never really see each other or connect to each other in the way like for example Luba and Dylan do in pairs for Canada. That standing ovation at Nationals that was relief that a top team finished without a major error, nothing more nothing less.

The whole thing about blind is that you need to create a physical chemistry like pechalat and bourzat did when zhulin made this kind of program for them to do. They have a severe problem because bobrova with her extreme bent at the waste posture creates horrible distractions.

The fd doesn’t have potential. They were third at coc! B/s have huge disasters of rejected by judges programs and there’s no reason to push them at euros as even gorshkov is questioning if they go! Why give a push to a team you are questioning going? Gorshkov is busy trying to convince the IOC to allow bobrova right now.

I thought after Skate Canada, Weaver & Poje had a good shot at the bronze, but since they have preceded to do what they have done 2 years now, make stupid and pointless errors that sink their stock and momentum lower and lower, to the point even if they finally skate well they are almost sure to be screwed over due to a lack of rep and momentum like they were at Worlds last year.

I really dont see Bobrova & Soloviev having much chance. They were one of the only teams to skate error free on the grand prix, apart from their spin error in Russia but that didnt even affect their placing there, and still couldnt make the Grand Prix final. If everyone skates well they should be only 8th behind all 3 American teams, Italians, and Weaver & Poje really. That is a lot of mistakes teams have to make for them to win a medal, atleast 5 teams missing levels and perhaps stumbling, and maybe a couple of those would even need to fall. The only way they can get a medal is if Rus. overload politics for them, and with stronger chances in the ladies, pairs, and even men, IMO they are very unlikely to do much, or as much as is needed. If there werent a lot of Russian fans on this site I would have omitted them from the poll entirely honestly.

I think it's tempting the Skating Gods into having a bit of fun to try to think anything is guaranteed at the Olympics. I'm expecting it to be extremely close and it will be down to a level call on one step sequence that will decide the whole thing. The only thing that's guaranteed is that everyone will be screaming afterwards.

It’s just time to start treating Russian ice dance teams like Chinese ice dance teams. Yes they exist but it’s no longer what the Russians care about at all. You can say Russians are done with dance. They have ladies now!! It’s like China has dance teams too but doesn’t really try with them.

I still believe the Shibs have a recently narrowed advantage over the rest of the field with two clean skates. The dark horse team? C&L.
